You live in Southern California? Those wiildfires are getting bad. They have been dreading the appearance of the Santa Anna Wiinds all year and they came over the weekend. High Wiinds + Drought + High Temp + Low Humidity = Bad. |

Almost sure they're called Santa Ana Winds, without the double N or double I, since I live in the city that shares their name. Interesting fact is that they used to be called Satan's Winds because they cause so much destruction. Anyways, love the winds, love the smell of the fires... without the actual fires or ashes or anything. Regardless, the ones I think two years ago were really bad, these are still relatively nothing. Here's an article with pictures: Fires Sad thing is, this is very bad for our current water shortages, as we'll be using vast amounts to attempt to control the fires. Even though some of the fires are in the next city over, we haven't really been affected, other than people fainting from the heat and a blackout that happened a little while back, during PFC's tests. |

They mentioned the 2003 fires this morning and how bad they were. These ones are well on there way. Last I heard, it was like 100,000+ acres burned in San Diego County...700 houses burned and over 500,000 people evactuated...1 fatality, 42 injuries including 16 fire fighters. This was a couple hours ago. Also, that the fires were 0% contained. PFC, I thought I spelled Ana wrong. For the double "I" thing, read my sig. |

I'd say these were worse, but that's only because one of the big fires is really close to where I live, and I can feel the heat. It's worse than the heat from the summer. Lol Global Warming people! (Play on words, don't shoot >.> <.<) Luckily there's only been one fatality. The sad thing is, despite 2003's tragedies, some people are still reluctant to follow the fire fighter's advice and evacuate, stalling until the last moment. Anyways, now would be a perfect time for more rain, rain! And Jesus Freak Nor, that makes sense ![]() Edit: Never mind, there was a second fatality. And it seems that people from north Los Angeles to San Diego, which should include my county, but we haven't even canceled school. Agh bad combo, dry weather, dry land and the winds. The most they can do now is back up, because it's so hot that the water and fire retardant evaporate before hitting the ground. |

Well, now the info is as follows (as of a couple hours ago): 880,000+ people evactuated 400,000+ acres burned 1,600+ houses burned 5 Fatalities 45+ Injuries (some are firefighters) From what I have read, the 2003 Wiildfire is as follows: ??? people evacuated 500,000+ acres burned 650 houses burned 14 Fatalities ??? Injuries So, this fire is pretty bad. They said that, at the earliest, they wont have these contained until Nov 1st. Edit: Sorry, I love news. That is why I started this board (Current Events). gameguy888: Someone's not paying attention to their sig... L| Jesus Freak Nor: 1. This is a serious topic. 2. Citadel of Lies!!! |

Man, it sounds pretty bad. We should all pray for weather conditions to stop the fire and for the people suffering from this. 1,600+ houses burned! That's terrible! Can you even imagine having your house burned down?! |

There was more fatalities reported as of Thursday I think, which would be the 25th. 7 or so were caused because of the fire (not directly, for example the fire's heat caused heat strokes, or something to that nature) and 8 or so lives directly eaten by the fires. Estimated numbers, I don't remember the exact numbers from Thursday morning. Also, one is a confirmed arson case, and three other fires may be arsons, haven't checked. I do know that they are offering a large reward to any information leading to the arrest of the person/people who started the fire. On the plus side, the winds have died down (D: I love those winds when they don't cause the fires) enough as of I think it was also Thursday, for fire fighters to bring in air units to combat the fires. And it drizzled yesterday <.< Which is good news if the weather we have here in Santa Ana affected the mountain fires. Oh, just read an article that says the fires were 75% contained on Saturday. Of course, if the winds rise again, these numbers will drop. "Seven deaths have been directly attributed to the fires," So yea, anything that isn't local news probably won't list the other deaths, as they aren't "directly attributed" to the fire |
