| Welcome to Pokemon Adventures! You are currently viewing the forum as a guest. If you're thinking of joining, I feel the need to note that this is a discussion forum, and not some kind of online Pokemon game (as awesome as that would be). We get tons of members getting this confused, and we certainly wouldn't want to waste your time if this place isn't what you were looking for. You might also find that the activity level is rather low around here. This is mostly due to lack of new members that stick around. I'm sure if we had a few more, all the many members would eventually come out of hiding. Why not sign up and stay for a while. Who knows? You may be surprised. Click here to join! |

Okay, so, Wednesday, I was using my laptop. Suddenly, it decides to freeze. Thinking it lag or something, I leave it sit for a while, and nothing happens. I decide to close the laptop since that seems to fix it somehow sometimes. While touching the screen, it unfreezes for a split secend. So, then I think "Maybe the screen is loose or something." I push down on the screen gently, and it seemed to keep my screen from freezing. It ended up though, that it wasn't always working if I push down on the left side. Eventually, I started pulling the screen from the bottom right to do this, and I guess I accidentally touched a spot next to the Page Up and Page Down keys (top right of my laptop's base). It seems, if I squeeze that spot on my laptop, it won't freeze, but does if I'm not. I've tried explaining and showing this to my dad, and he has no clue what's wrong. He's taken it apart, and everything looks fine, but it's painfully obvious that something is wrong. Also, my USB ports don't seem to be working, which means I can't use my mouse, flash drive, etc. either. It's also not recognising my power cord, and not charging. Anyone have any idea what's going on here?

My guess is either the power supply or motherboard is the issue. |

I'm not sure I completely understand...without squeezing anything, will the laptop currently boot up into Windows? If it will boot, when does it freeze, right away or does it take awhile? Will the laptop charge if you pause it at the BIOS? If you're sure this is really a hardware problem, you probably know already that things like this are hard to diagnose. I'd really need to see the laptop to make a good guess here, but being that sweezing it seems to have some effect, one guess is that the hardware has a failing connection somewhere in that area. I find it interesing that it's not charging. Where does the power cord plug into the laptop? Does it plug in nearby the place where sqeezing it seems to do something? If so, I would guess that you've probably got something physically broken where the AC power plug fits into the laptop. Mine had that same problem a while back (while still under warranty). That spot on the laptop undergoes a lot of stress due to the plug and often, the designers are lazy and don't make that part strong enough to handle that stress over time. If you wanted to pick a time to stop by, I could make some time to look at it. I have taken apart my laptop a couple times now and put it back together, so I at least have a vague idea of what I'm doing. However, to actually fix a piece of hardware is another story...all I can do is try the basics that I've picked up from someone else. However, if something is seriously wrong with the mainboard, you have to understand that the laptop is essentially junk.......unless you could find a used laptop with the same mainboard and swap it in. Also, I know someone who is an electronics genius (he's designed his own circuit boards and such) and I might be able to convince him to look at it if I can't figure out anything myself. So yeah, if you want me to look at it, give me a call. I can't guarantee anything, but I've taken apart a heck of a lot of stuff and I've rarely made anything worse and I've actually fixed a good percentage of it. |

Sorry, meant to respond earlier. Anyway, it seems my dad's friend figured out what was wrong with it. Apparently, my USB ports were coming loose or something. |
