We get tons of members getting this confused, and we certainly wouldn't want to waste your time if this place isn't what you were looking for. You might also find that the activity level is rather low around here. This is mostly due to lack of new members that stick around. The Chinese military hacked into a Pentagon computer network in June in the most successful cyber attack on the US defence department, say American _officials. The Pentagon acknowledged shutting down part of a computer system serving the office of Robert Gates, defence secretary, but declined to say who it believed was behind the attack. Current and former officials have told the Financial Times an internal investigation has revealed that the incursion came from the People’s Liberation Army. One senior US official said the Pentagon had pinpointed the exact origins of the attack. Another person familiar with the event said there was a “very high level of confidence...trending towards total certainty” that the PLA was responsible. The defence ministry in Beijing declined to comment on Monday. Read the news here. ------------------------------------------------- Even though this article gave us two ways instead of one (Aaron will like), I still think this is more proof towards China's ill-will towards America. There is another article I would love to share, but it swears in many quotes. They were interviewing a Chinese worker... Anyways, there is also a possibility of a terrorist attack. Maybe they took up to opportunity and tried to use our media against us. Hopefully we won't hear too much newspapers demanding us to go to war just yet... |

This is nothing new...China officials have already stated that they see war with America very likely in the future. China's government is inherently evil; they do not allow their own citizens the basic right of freedom. Chinese citizens may not say anything against the Chinese government; a government that oppresses it's citizens. Look at the Tiananmen Square Massacre, not only were non-violent protesters murdered, but even a group of medical personnel, not involved in the protests, were killed because they went to assist the wounded. Because China's government is, in principle, completely opposite to our own, I can only predict that more incidents such as these will take place until the Chinese government grants the basic rights that we as Americans take for granted. Until that time, China will always be "against us" even if we are not formally hostile. This problem is an immense one, and cannot be fixed over night. One tactic we might try is to slowly limit our trading with China and inform them that we will continue to limit trade until they grant citizens freedom. We might, over time, eventually force them to give in, by squeezing them economically. However, doing that would require sacrifices by every American because many goods are imported from China; basic economics teaches that limiting trade will cause the prices of goods to increase, and in this case, increase greatly. Now remind me again, who made China our favored nation? We should not be granting such titles on a country who's government oppresses it's citizens, and has many times shown that it is willing to attack the US in this way? |

You know...I think China will probably do something in the future, but once again, it may be far off. Also, if we limited trade with China, wouldnt that cause our economy to...well, get worse? I dont think we should do this...but of course they could do that to us anyway. Currently...I just see China as China, I dont explore it that much. All I know is that they are quickly becoming the next world power. |

Actually, the people of China are pretty ticked off at their government. I wouldn't be surprised if the government fell with the help of America... I think Aaron may have a good idea. L|
Just perfect for the terrorists who aim for the American war hawks in the media. |

So yeah, I admit that there is a definite problem to that plan of action...we will all have to do with less, and I just don't see us doing that. Our country's citizens can't even handle all of the "stress" from the War on Terror, and besides from the people in the military and their families, almost no one's lives are really affected by the war. Right now, I doubt America has the stomach for a real challenge...which is sad... |

Sad but true. Aaron hit it dead on. Two ways to take down China, economic or military pressure. Both equal great strife for America. The first means a major rec cession. The second means build up like that during the cold war. This could also possibly lead to war which would definitely be bad. I don't know if a complete boycott of Chinese goods is the right idea, but I definitely think we should cut back some trade. |

There has been several organizations formed to attempt to get rid of sweat shops (etc), but they haven't really succeeded. I'm wearing No Sweats right now, but that really doesn't mean anything. My shoes just cost $10 more. |
