Welcome to Pokemon Adventures!

You are currently viewing the forum as a guest.

If you're thinking of joining, I feel the need to note that this is a discussion forum, and not some kind of online Pokemon game (as awesome as that would be). We get tons of members getting this confused, and we certainly wouldn't want to waste your time if this place isn't what you were looking for.

You might also find that the activity level is rather low around here. This is mostly due to lack of new members that stick around. I'm sure if we had a few more, all the many members would eventually come out of hiding. Why not sign up and stay for a while. Who knows? You may be surprised.

Monkey see, monkey do!

Ok here's a tutorial I made. It took me a while... Anyway, here!

Posted Image
To start, this is the format of paint. If you don't know the tools, I might make a Paint tutorial later...

Posted Image
Ok here's a close-up of the tools we'll be using.

Step 1: Gather Materials

Posted Image
Ok. First you need to select your panels. I'll be using six panels.

Now you choose a setting. I'll be using this one:
Posted Image

Then choose the sprites you'll use. We'll be using these ones:
Posted ImagePosted Image

Open all of these in seperate paint documents.

Step 2: Plan Your Format

You will copy and paste sprites into your comic. The tool you use to do this is the Select Tool:
Posted Image

First you copy/paste your first setting into the first panel:
Posted Image

Then, you copy/paste the sprites into position:
Posted Image
Make sure that when you paste a sprite into the comic, select Draw Opaqe. This makes all of the white in the sprite clear. Thus, showing just the sprite. The Draw Opaque selection is found in this box:
Posted Image

To signal movement, I first copy/paste the first panel into the second panel:
Posted Image

Then I paste the sprite that shows movement:
Posted Image

Next, I get rid of the first sprite:
Posted Image

I do the same thing for the third and fourth panel:
Posted Image

Making characters turn can be harder, but it isn't too hard:
Posted Image

Now we finish up the characters:
Posted Image

Step 3: Dialogue and Speech Bubbles

To get the words like they are in my comic, I save a seperate paint document. It is a GIF file. This is because in bmp, or PNG, the text is slightly fuzzy. In GIF, they aren't. I save a file like this:
Posted Image

To type, you use the Text tool:
Posted Image

Then type all the dialogue in this file. In this case, there's only one word:
Posted Image

Now, paste the dialogue into your comic:
Posted Image

Now you have to choose the type of speech bubbles you will use:
Posted Image
This tool makes rectangle bubbles:
Posted Image
This tool make circle bubbles:
Posted Image
And this tool makes rounded rectangle bubbles:
Posted Image

I’ll use a rounded rectangle for this tutorial:
Posted Image

You the use the line tool:
Posted Image

To put a tail on your speech bubble:
Posted Image

Then you fill in the speech bubble in with white.

Here’s the comic with all the different types of bubbles:

Rounded Rectangle:

Square:

Circle:

Tips and Tricks

When working on a comic, if you have to save it mid-way, save it as a bmp file.
When you finish it, save it as a PNG file. This way, when you upload it, it will be the right size and colors.

NEVER SAVE YOUR COMIC AS A GIF OR JPEG! This will totally destroy the color configuration!

Well, that’s my tutorial. If you find anything wrong with it, or anything I should add, please let me know.

Lord, the sky's still blue,
For my hope is in You.
You're my joy,
You're the dream that's still alive.
Like the wind at my back,
And the sun on my face,
You are life,
You're grace,
You are blue skies.

Time for Postgame!

Yarg! I was gonna do this! Xp
You're not allowed to read my mind like that, it's kinda scary.

Ah well, good thing I kept forgetting to do it, otherwise it would have been time kinda wasted... L|

Anyway, nice guide! If you plan on expanding a bit, theres a lot more stuff you could add, like:

The Eraser Trick
Sprite Choosing
Sprite Resizing
Custom Sprites
General Do's and Don'ts
Making the "Stage"
Picking a Setting
some other stuff I forget...

Actually, this works really well as a guide to actually making the comic, but as you can kinda see from my list, you didn't mention much about making sprites, settings, and other stuff.

I dunno, if you don't mind, that might be a side project for me to work on a bit and just edit it into your post or something... L| Unless of course you wanna do it, or just don't want me to.

All in all, this is still a good guide to making a spirte comic.

Gameguy approves. :p
It's not game over until the counter hits zero.
Just keep going until the credits start rolling.

You might want to cut off the little excess on the tail. But otherwise, it's good!

Cool. You might want to add an outline to your speech bubbles. And have them all be the same kind...
