I've been watching prices for the past two weeks, and they have just dropped almost 25%!! Anyone looking to fly to see the Show should check out their favorite airline's website. A round trip ticket from Madison to NYC was $276. It is now $214. (orbitz.com) It's even cheaper at the airlines' websites. JEEPERS! I may now be able to buy a few drinks while I'm there!!

There's a new discount airline called Independence Air that is serving several eastern US airports. It's hub is at Dulles International. It was said that once this airline "took off" then other airlines would compete with them and lower their prices. This is great news because I may fly down to Raleigh while the DNC is happening in Boston. |

Good idea CT. The convention is going to put a big strain on traffic, etc in the city. As for airfare, yes, if you looked before, and it was too expensive, do check again. Low demand coupled with lower than projected fuel costs are driving prices down. We are re-evaluating travel at work in light of this. Things that were not approved are suddenly getting green-lighted again. |

One unintended consequence of these crazy lower fares is that at least one, but probably two, of the six non-discount airlines will be going out of business. Conventional wisdom says that if you have oodles of frequent flyer miles on any of the big six, you better seriously start thinking about cashing them in. If your airline carrier goes under, yer shit outta luck on changing in those miles. Just something to ponder...

This is a great link for comparing prices: http://matrix.itasoftware.com/cvg/dispatch/ Search for low airfare here... It is not sponsored by any airline so it checks ALL of them to give you the best price, routing...etc. It's a good start to see which airline is the lowest then you can go to their site directly and hopefully save another $10. Hope that helps. BL I'll be at both shows in NY. |
