(the camera fades from black to the waiting room of a hospital area. The clock on the wall says 8:30AM and there is no one in the room except for an older Asian distinguished man wearing a kinda of grayish pin striped business suit. As we watch, we see Vespertine running up the corridor. She is wearing blue jeans, a pink baby T shirt, and red high heels. She has a note in her hand and she looks at the door numbers as she goes by. When she gets to the waiting room area, she looks up and sees an older Asian gentleman in a stripped business suit sitting down. She goes over to him, he stands and they hug)

V: Hi daddy. I would’ve gotten here sooner this morning but there are so many levels and corridors to this hospital. How are you doing?

F: I’m doing as well as expected under the circumstances. I didn’t see you yesterday when did you get in?

V: Around 11:00PM. I got a room at the Luxor because I didn’t want to call or sneak into your place as I wanted you to get some sleep for today. When is her surgery?

F: It started at 6. Give a half hour for prep time and then they say its gonna be maybe 6-8 hours before everything is all done.

(they both sit down side by side, she takes his hands in hers)

V: I’m here daddy if you need me. (pause) How is everything going?

F: By everything I assume you mean the restaurant. (she nods) Well it’s going great. We are opening up another one soon in Seattle and the one in Phoenix is just finishing up. You wouldn’t be interested in managing that would you?

V: Maybe some day dad. Right now, I’m in the thick of my career and I’m here for you for mom. (pause) What are they actually going to do? I thought her tumor was too small to do anything?

F: Well from what I understand, with the technology they got, they are going to open her skull up and then laser it out from there. You know, I don’t think they could’ve done that 10 years ago. Technology is really flying fast.

V: That’s true. By the way, have you heard about this new phone they have, it’s called an Android.

(he looks at her and raises an eyebrow. She laughs)

V: Just checking.

(the sound goes down and the camera pans up to the clock on the wall which says right now 8:45. There is a slight shimmer between scenes and the next time we see the clock it is 10:30. The camera pans down and we see the waiting room is still empty except for them. A nurse walks by. The older Asian man is nerviously pacing back and forth, Vespertine has her elbows on her knees and her head in her hands. The camera pans back up to the clock and again there is a shimmer)

(when the shimmering is over, the clock reads 12:45 and the camera pans down. There are several more people in the waiting room as well. But this time Vespertine is pacing up and down and her father is staring across the room. The camera doesn’t pan back up the clock but time lapse speeds up and people start walking in and out faster, the camera pulls back and we see that the speed of the clock is going faster as well. At one stage, Vespertine disappears down the hallway. She returns a few minutes later with lunch. She gives a bag to her father and she sits down next to him and they start to eat quietly, lost in their own thoughts. They finish eating and the scene goes back to speeding up. When the clock on the wall reads 2:30, time lapse slows down, the sound comes back up and we see a doctor come out into the waiting room and call their names. Vespertine runs over to him and her father gets up to talk with the doctor.)

V: How is she? Is she all right? Can we see her yet?

Dr: Um…

Father: Surgery is over, yes?

Dr: Yes. She is going into recovery right now.

V: Is she doing ok?

Dr: Yes and no. There were….uh….complications of sorts.

Father: What do you mean?

Dr: It’s a good thing she came in when she did. The tumor was bigger than we thought. It was covered a whole ¾ of her brain. We got it out….but….there were some parts of the brain where it was real tricky and we had to take pieces of the brain out via sharp instruments instead of the laser.

V: What? Does she have anything left up there, is my mother going to be a vegetable the rest of her life?

Dr: No no. I assure you she’ll be fine. And we can try and regrow brain tissues which will take a year so she’ll need to come back in a few times. But she won’t ever be the same again.

Father: Will she recognize us?

Dr: Oh….most assuredly. But we won’t know the full effects of the parts and pieces we took out until she wakes up.

V: She was in a coma when she went in. When will she wake up?

Dr: Should be right after recovery. The brain tumor was what put her into the coma. Well that and the lack of blood.

Father: Lack of blood?

Dr: Well the tumor had grown to a size where you know the brain needs blood and oxygen to survive and it had grown to a size where she wasn’t getting enough blood to her head. So in order for her body to deal with it, it put her in a coma. Her vital signs show normal so she should be ok.

V: (smiling at dad)That’s mom for you. She is never gonna give up.

Father: Can we go in and see her?

Dr: Give her 15 minutes while they finish with her and then she’ll be in the recovery center. If she is awake, don't stay long but if she is sleeping, I would recommend letting her sleep.

V: Thank you doctor.

(the doctor walks away back into the surgery room. Her father tells her he is going to go to the recovery center and prepare the room for her.)

V: Ok, dad. That’s cool. I’m going to finish up here and do a little promo while I’m at it.

Father: Promo?

V: For PDW. The wrestling federation I’m in. (he “harumps” and walks away, she shakes her head and goes over to the chairs and sits down in them. You can see by the look in her eyes she is really tired but really happy.)

V: This has been a hella long journey. And the journey to the top of PDW was hampered by this. For me, family comes first. But now that I know she is ok, I’ll be back… soon.

(pauses and looks around the room in a kind of blurry eyed daze. She then looks back at the camera)

V: This surgery didn’t slow my mother down and neither will it slow me down either. You can call me anything you want, call me all the names in the good book because I’m dropped out of the triple threat match but I had good reason and my family comes first even though dad and I don’t always get along. But after I’ve had my time off to see that she is ok, I’m coming back and I’ll be better than ever.

(she sighs, closes her eyes and leans her head against the wall. She then gets up slowly and goes off screen and the camera pans up above her and fades to black)
