Hey guys just wanted to share with you the situation back in Tunisia, my country, it's in north of Africa.
Well it seems we've been under a "dictature" for like 20 years, we have the same president ever since then, I have to add that in Tunisia's full history we have only had 2 presidents...
And this presidents family seems to be running the country. Lately the people got fed up from all the taxes and the unemployement because of our catastrophic economy, and since like 2 weeks there has been this revolution going on, and not sooner than yesterday the revolution reached the capital of the country : Tunis, where I live.
So people are like destroying stores and and cars and the police just tries to stop them by shooting at them, so long story short there has been like 50 deaths and many injuries, it seems lately people hear from their houses gun shots and screams...
All of the schools closed exept mine because I am in a french school that obeys to the french ambassy and those bastards, think that since this problem has nothing to do with them they shouldn't close. At the begining we didn't really feel concerned, that was until the mess didn't get to us, so today most of the students (including me) didn't go to class and went on strike.
Fuck this is messed up...
BUMP : Personally I never wanted to be in on any of this, still wish this could all just go away because history has proven that these kind of "revolutions" ended in bloodbathes, and don't wanna sound selfish but it is my grad year and don't really need this now...
Damn this...

Wow, that's really unfortunate. I can't even imagine having to live in the middle of a revolution. Sounds like it happened at a pretty rough time too, especially if you're going to be interupting your schooling. Hopefully some kind of agreement happens to at least calm the violence down. Try to keep yourself safe over there.

Thanks, neither did I, I have always seen this kind of stuff happening on the news and go like "...meh... that's too bad..." but now, I know.
The thing is I'm not really worried about myself, it's about my mom and my sister that I'm worried, I mean, I am the man of the house since my dad isn't here...

I fixed the initial part, nobody should think about school in a moment like that... and I am in the graduation year too, I nearly passed something like that, but police stopped it because italian people turn from angry to terrified after seeing a pair of handcuffs....

btw, try to stay safe and stay away from battlegrounds, because there should be some bloody ones, I guess...
unless you don't turn into a revolutionary, you'll be safe with your family

Fuck, there's a curvey now, everyone has to be home by 8 pm. My school finaly closed today at noon, soldiers are all over the damn place and shots are still fired even next to my house.
The reason school closed is that the students had a strike and the police got involved.
Tomorow there is like this a national strike, the hole damn country will be out of service tomorow.
Yesterday there was around 30 deaths.
Even thought I still am not 18 years old, so still a minor, I gave my blood today, they didn't check IDs.
I have a feeling this country is going to hell.

EDIT : Man I just heard next to my grandma's house shots are being fired for like 15 minutes now.

Nah, we don't have guns at home and I think that we might not be needing them.
(never the less I still walk around with a 3 inch knife in my pocket)
Tonight at 8 pm the president gave a speech and said that prices for food will drop, liberty of speech will be respected, Youtube and Dailymotion aren't blocked any more.
Personnaly I liked the speech but it's kinda hard to believe it.
People all around Tunisia are pretty happy/releaved, many are still pretty angry and sceptical, they don't believe what he's saying until there are real changes.
People didn't die just so Youtube stops being blocked, we already had proxies for that.
Moreover, the families of the poor victims are still pretty pissed.

There is one problem :

In 1864 the tunisian rebeled against the "Bey" (it's like our royalty back then) and his tyrany. The Bey thought that his kingdom was near an end, so he accepted all the request and promised changes.
Once the revolution stopped and the guns put down, the Bey sent the general Zarrouk and his special forces to kill the rebels and executed their boss, Ali Ben Ghdhehom...

Hopefully history won't repeat itself...

Until today around 8 pm, there were snipers shooting the insurgents and the political enemies, I have no idea if we're supposed to believe the president's words, all this seems too good to be true.
You guys have no idea how much we're drowned in propaganda at the moment...

... Shots are still being fired in some areas...

Wow, I wish my family knew how good they had it not in the middle of a revolution and all (most of them are stuck up and self centered)

I'm sorry for the troubling times portgaz =(

I found out what i could on the situation and it sounds like the government their is little more than a form of royalty or at least they treat themselves as such....and we all know what happens with royalty

Thanks.
So here is the situation now : Our asshole of a president fled the country yesterday with his family, he went to france but he wasn't accepted, went to Italy but it seems he still wasn't accepted, USA accepted to host him and even to give him a new identity, so at the end the kingdom of Saudi Arabia took him and he and his family are now there.
Since that son of bitch just couldn't let go, before fleding the country he released a lot of prisoners and ex-corrupted police officers to rampage the country, every single mall has been burned down, many supermarket have been stolen and burned, it seems those basterds even broke in some houses stole every thing and all. I was on the brink of calling some of the neightbors so that we kinda of tried to protect our neighborhood in case the traitors came but the army (that is on our side) told us just to stay home and they'll take care of everything.
Long story short when I go out in the streets I smell burned stuff.
The curvey has been changed, nobody out of their houses after 5 pm till 7 am.
The 14th of January 2011 is now a historical date for Tunisia.
PS it was also my mom's birthday.

And we now remain without a president...

Wow....

I really don't know how to reply to that other than sorry =(

From reading about what happened with your president ticks me off though, because my country (the USA) would accept a man that infamous just really makes my view of how we do things even worse

Sometimes USA is too nice with people of other states
Italy didn't even try to get another responsability, we've got already ours....
And I hope that mother fucker to burn in some plane accident with his family, in case his sons inherited the same nation-waster gene.
Again, I'm so sorry for you to live in this mess. And happy birthday for your mom, but I guess this is not the time to say it...
