I am so glad you knowabout this. I saw a car the other day with the Diapers on Wings logo. I made a mental note to tell you about it but obviously my brain is not working right. |

I am so happy that St. John's has a diaper service... so when I saw a table for Diapers on wings at the Farmers Market today I stopped to get some more info to share! Mainly I wanted to know the cost... because there wasn't any info re. cost on their webpage. They are using pretty much the same thing I started with.... Orangic prefolds and wraps/ PUL covers. The cost is said to be around the same or less then the average cost of disposable diapers per weeks. ~$20. Each week clean diapers are dropped off and the dirty ones picked up. You are paying for the service not the diapers. All diapers are the property of Diapers on Wings. Start up Package cost about $80 and includes the following: Hanging Diaper "Pail" 2 diaper wraps 80 diapers 4 deodorizing tablets 1 roll of diaper liners (Includes one month of pick- up and delivery). The only part of this I question is the "2 diaper wraps". On her demo table she had the same wraps I use with prefolds (bummis ones) ... 2 doesn't seem like enough to me. She also mentioned a trial package for those unsure and those who just want to try it out. Cost ~ $45. Not sure what this includes. All sounds pretty good to me... and I definitely think it's a great way for people to try out cloth diapering investment and committment free... after all it is definitely not for everyone. A diaper service also takes away the extra laundry and related costs! I won't be signing up because I already have a ton of supplies of my own. But I'm still a fan... I hope they do well! |

I would think that you would need to wash cloth diapers more than once weekly?? Am I wrong? Just curious if you are allowed to wash their diapers? |

I wash every 3 days; any longer and the ammonia-pee smell is :X I could go a week if I had to, but I never do. The 2 covers is definitely not enough. Juli goes through 2 in a day. I think this is an awesome idea; but it needs to be tweaked. |

It wouldnt be worth it if you wash the diapers yourself. The key thing to remember here is you are paying for the service... you never actually own the diapers. They give you more than enough prefold diapers for the week (80 to start) and when they are soiled you don't even rinse them. You just shake off the solids and put them in the bag. The company is using industrial strength washers to wash the diapers ... I remember reading that they go through like 14 cycles or something crazy like that. The covers/ wraps are different. They can be quickly rinsed... and hangdry really really quickly. So I'm guessing these would have to be rinsed immediately after they are soiled. Still doesn't seem right to only have 2. |

I know it wouldn't be worth it to wash them yourself, I think if I was to use the service I'd want the option of pick up twice weekly, due to the smell and the fact that poop is drying in the diapers for 7 days. 7 day old un-rinsed soiled diapers can't be good... lol I wouldn't want to be washing all those soiled diapers, but I am glad that the service is finally available here! Hopefully it encourages some more Mommy's to use cloth as laundry is a big deterrent for some! |

The pee smell would get to me. Once d started sleeping through the night I ended up using disposables overnight... not because of leaks or anything but because I personally could not stand that strong pee smell in the morning :misss: Probably won't be as much poop as you might think. By the sounds of it they are encouraging people to use diaper liners. The liners are about the thickness of a bounce sheet and are flushable / biodegradable. Alot of people use liners and they do a good job of catching the solids so that not too much ends up on the actual diapers. They also are asking customers to use liners if they need to use a bum cream (eg. vasoline etc) (most diaper instructions tell you do this as well to protect the product). I don't regularly use liners personally... I like having the soft cotton / bamboo etc next to babies skin. |
