Johnson & Johnson's McNeil Consumer Healthcare is pulling cough and cold medicines in the U.S. for infants because of overdose dangers, the company announced Thursday. There is no official recall in Canada as of yet but it is expected that they will recommend against cough and cold medications for children under 2. Here is the related CBC News Story. |

I didn't know you could give cough/cold meds to kids under 2. I was always told that meds with decongestants were a no-no for babies and toddlers. It has something to do with brain function I believe... |

when DS was sick I asked the pharmacist and he said it's not really a good idea to pump them full of chemicals at that age. he also said it's good for their immune systems to learn how to fight off colds, so it really does them no harm except for the nuisance of stuffy, runny noses, etc. I used some saline drops in his nose to break up the congestion and some Vicks vapor rub on his chest and back (both of which my doctor told me were fine). other than that, I put a big bowl of steaming water in his room when he was sleeping (couldn't find our vaporizer) and made sure he was getting lots of water and fruit, etc. |
