David Chesney sent the following warning re. tempered glass tables to the admin email and asked me to share with the community...

Hi Everyone,

as you all may know, my daughter Jada was injured a couple of years ago when our glass patio exploded. Since then I've committed myself to ensuring that the public is aware of the potential risks in owning glass tables of any sort.

Fox News

A few months ago I was contacted by Rick Yarborough, a producer for Fox News in Washington, DC. Rick is very respected in the field of investigative reporting and over the years has been nominated and received awards for his outstanding work. Rick contacted me originally because he was receiving a flury of consumer complaints in the Washington, DC area about patio tables exploding. After doing some investigative reporting, he came across Jada's website and contacted
me immediately. Just after a few minutes on the phone with Rick, I knew he shared the same concerns that I had surrounding the potential dangers of these tables. Over the past couple of months we have been talking back and forth and as of recent Rick had got the go ahead to run his story. The story was broadcasted on Fox News last night and can be viewed on their website at:

Consumer Affairs

At first, I launched a website http://www.jadachesney.blogspot.com/ to connect the public with information I had gathered over the internet. This got great response and the amount of consumers complaining about similiar incidents was astronomical. ConsumersAffairs.com has recently stated that it has received a continous stream of over 500 complaints from consumers about their patio tables exploding . Inside Edition

Last November, Inside Edition's Matt Meagher ran a story
http://www.insideedition.com/ourstories/re...spx?storyid=478 titled "Glass Table Dangers".
The story can be seen at the previous url, but here is an excerpt that is of importance when it comes to your family safety:

"INSIDE EDITION's Matt Meagher took hidden cameras to two different Bombay furniture stores. Salespeople at both assured Meagher that a particular tabletop was made from tempered glass. To find out if this was true, Meagher purchased the tabletop and broke the top to see how the glass broke. The result was large, dangerous shards of regular
glass. "

Warning Labels
As you can see from the information above, glass tables are definitely inherent to spontaneous breakage and even personal injury. It is up to us as consumers to voice our concerns and ensure that Warning labels be placed on these tables before time of purchase.
