OMG i have to share this. :(

Up till today we loved the nuby cup, with the fast/slow valve.
We always rinse our cups then dishwasher them, but its been bothering dh for a while (hes the very curious sort) that looked slighly shadowed inside the closed valve. well today he split one open and i feel sick, my child has been drinking from that.

I emailed the company today and i look forward to there response.

Ohh, that is so gross. Are the things meant to come apart or did you have to force them? My mil buys cheapo sippy cups at the dollar store and I made her throw out the spill-proof attachments the other day for the same reason.

Playtex and Avent are the only two types of cups I have and both have a rubber attachment that you can easily clean. Please let us know what the company tells you!

dh had to get a knife and pry it open, its not meant to come apart.
Thank god he was curious. Maybe i am washing them wrong, but i thought the dishwasher would clean them good. we take out the valve and that gets washed seperatly from the cup so should have a good wash. I am so disgusted and i feel sick at the thought that we used one yesterday

We have had the same problem with these cups. I throw the spill proof thing in the garbage after awhile, as both of mine don't really need it. I only put one in for my 2-1/2 year old if he has a drink in bed.

Ewwww... though. I should check out the two thingys I have left there just to make sure.

When baby Rachel starts on sippys I'll buy her a good one for just her like I did with the other two.

i sent them 3 pictures, as those will get the message across way more effectively than me just sending them a email. I hope they get back to me, as i am very interested to hear what they have to say.

OMG!! That is so gross and so wrong! I can't see how it is your fault in any way scubamom.

I too have a couple of those cups but like others I never really used the flow valve thingy. Can't wait to see what kind of response you get from the company.

Home Away From Home
Thank you for sharing this...I have 2 similar to those at home, I will have to check that when I get off work! I just called home and told DH not to use them. We also use the disposable cups as they are see through and you can see if they are not clean! They are not drip proof though :( But I will sacrifice that any day for mold! Thankfully the kids never got sick! Thanks again, krista

That is gross.
I have never used them - I have bought many different versions of the gerber sippy cup. My only complaint with the older versions is when ds throws it on the floor after a while the valve began to come out. A couple of weeks ago I tried their new and improved version and the lid leaked around the rim! I called Gerber and told them all my woes - Well, I got 4 new lids with valves and $12 in coupons to replace the other cups!
It is worth complaining sometimes (of course my complaint is not as serious as the mold!)

I never have a problem cleaning the gerber valves.
