We got these for Julia because she doesn't eat meat, she was always tired and getting sick so before resorting to blood work we got her these. Silly me didn't read the label until we got home, the first ingredient is aspartame!!!

I don't know how any of you feel about that sort of thing, but we don't consume it and refuse to give it to our kids. I was very surprised actually since they seem to be the preferred vitamin for children.

Wow, I can't believe vitamin manufacturers use artificial sweeteners!

I want to offer my opinion on artificial sweeteners in children's products. With the increasing rate of juvenille diabetes, manufacturers have created products as not to lose the marketshare. You may find interesting that some prescription antibiotics and liquids are sweetened the same way. Outside of aspartame, sucralose is more natural as it is created from sugar and is not a human-made chemical.

I guess so, but the amount of real sugar a child would get from medication or a vitamin is usually minimal compared to the amount added to food. All these granola bars and supposed "healthy" snacks geared towards both adults and children are loaded with sugar. I picked up the package for the new All Bran bites the other day and the first ingredient on the list is sugar...

There is also the question as to whether or not artificial sweeteners get recognized by the brain and trigger the feeling of fullness, thus leaving you still hungry after eating an artificially sweetened product. Aspartame for children scares me, but Splenda I can handle in moderation.

Ooops, I didn't mean to completely change the context of this post! :P

I know that Arthur vitamins made by Jameison contain no aspertame but they do contain some sucralose. My daughter won't eat meat either, so I give her half of one of these since she is only 2.
