Waiting for the night to fall
![]()
|
One evening in November of 1659 a stranger walked into Eggplants' Eggplant Bar and took a seat at a small table in the back. His clothing marked him as being well to do, but his countenance spoke of great anxiety. After having a small meal and several tankards of ale he moved to the bar and began to regale the patrons with an incredible tale. He introduced himself as Jean Trudeau and he claimed to have just returned from a business meeting with Governor Pierre d'Argenson and several ranking members of the Communauté des Habitants. He had shown them a pelt from the rare fur bearing trout he said, and the men had been so enthralled by its beauty and quality that they had promised him the exorbitant sum of 100 livres for each specimen he could produce. He knew where the trout could be found in abundance, but an injury prevented him from making the arduous trek to harvest more. He was looking for a group of hardy adventurers to form a partnership with. He would supply the location that the fish could be found in return for a share of the profits. After questioning everyone extensively he selected 15 individuals and instructed them to meet him the following evening. The next night he explained to those assembled that the fish spent most of the year in the Saguenay River, but that they had to migrate to the deeper waters of Lake Mistassini to avoid freezing to death. After swearing an oath of secrecy, the 15 members of the expedition returned to their homes to pack. A month's journey later the group had found the frozen river and followed it to within a few days' trek of the lake. One evening as they sat around the fire, an aboriginal male literally fell from the sky into their midst. After recovering from fright, they approached the prone man. In a voice barely louder than a whisper he said that his name was Walabamba (Algonquian for 'Paddles La Chasse-Galerie') and that he had come with a dire warning. He said that the man that they knew as Trudeau was not a man at all, but a feu-follet - an evil spirit summoned by an Iroquois shaman as revenge for a smallpox epidemic that had decimated his people 20 years earlier. He said that Trudeau had placed a curse on 3 members of the party that had turned them into loup-garous - werewolves. He further said that he was too weak from his fall to discern the identity of those afflicted. He was able, however, to bless 3 members and grant them special powers to use in combatting the evil spirits. Having said this he succumbed to his injuries and died. Welcome to the 2nd installment of Werewolves in Canada. For those who don't know the rules, here they are: Basically there are 2 teams: the villagers and the werewolves. There are 4 different roles that each participant could be assigned: 1 Seer 2 Defenders 3 Werewolves Villagers The Seer, Defender(s) and Werewolves are the power roles. Each of them has a special ability that they can use at night (see below for details) The villagers have no special powers, but they do vote during the day phases and help decide who will die. There are 2 phases each turn, Day and Night. During the Day phase, villagers discuss whom they'd like to lynch. At the end of each Day phase, the person with the most lynch votes will be killed and their role will be made public. I will allow 'No Lynch' votes for those who don't wish to kill anyone, but be warned - sometimes this strategy can help the village and sometimes it helps the wolves. During the Night phase the Defenders each select 1 person to protect. If the wolves target a defended person then their attack will fail and nobody will die. A Defender may not defend the same person on consecutive nights. The Seer can select 1 person each night to scan, thus learning that person's role in the game. Whether or not the Seer chooses to contact someone after learning their role is left up to the Seer. The Werewolves as a group select 1 person each night to kill. The person they select will die unless defended. During the day phase you should discuss options with one another. Villagers are tasked with finding and killing all of the Werewolves. Werewolves need to remain hidden long enough to kill enough of the Villagers to ensure a win. The Village wins if they kill all of the Werewolves, the Werewolves win if the number of living wolves equals or exceeds the number of living Villagers (the Seer and any Defenders are included in the Village tally) You may discuss any aspect of the game you wish within the game thread. Since there's no way for me to monitor pm discussions I will say this: you may pm others about the game. You may claim to have a certain role - but YOU MAY NOT SEND a screenshot of the pm showing your role to anyone nor may you post it anywhere. It's one thing for a wolf to pm someone and 'claim' to be a villager or defender, it's quite another for a seer to send his role to everyone in the game and prove he is who he says he is. It's considered cheating to do this as it ruins the fun of the game. Day phases will last for 48 hours and Night phases will last for 24 hours. Voting may begin at 1330 Eastern time on 19 November (just over 13 hours from now) Good luck to all and I hope you enjoy the game. Nice job, Aerso. Well, we butlers far prefer the warmth of a cozy indoor mansion fireplace. But as long as we're all here by the frozen Saguenay River, we might as well make the best of it and try to get along for awhile. *fixes everybody a nice hot cup of tea by the campfire* Now, let's all stay calm today and try to figure this out like civilized human beings. Vote: No Lynch Now. Isn't this hot tea nice? So....Who would like to confess first?

Well, I think our best option is to lynch people until we kill those pesky loup-garou. The first few will be a lottery, and inevitably some innocents will die, but the only way for any of us to survive is to kill them as quickly as possible. |

I think for the first round everyone should make at least one post. They don't have to vote, but should at least say something. Then we lynch anyone who remained silent. This way, if we do accidentally lynch an innocent, at least it will be someone who isn't very active and might not have participated. |

People will get auto kicked if they aren't active for many votes, so it really doesn't matter. |

I think dpl has a good point. I'm not fond of the "no lynch" contingent, either. * Eyes Barry suspiciously. * |

But for this first round we have very little to go on, so we might as well go for someone who is less active. |

I'm inclined to vote "no lynch" for the first round at least. Just because . . . I don't know who to lynch at this point!

silence does not necessarily mean inactivity though. It could be that they missed the thread by a few hours, or decided to wait and see what others thought. If we're nor careful we could end up taking out the seer and defenders early on. |
