Yanagi-chan did very well in both the dance and hat elements, but a surprise ruling by the judges which scaled the height element by the height of the contestant left our diminutive dancer out of contention.

Congratulations meanwhile to Lord Limbo from Esselldee and Jeff Bendman from Drummond & Elmlsey, who both achieved bronze medals.

Oops - identity of one of the athletes mentioned below already revealed :D

Without further ado:

Our fourth report from the games is loaded with surprise and fun, with Canada, once again, noted for sporting as well as incidental interest.

We have two Canadian athletes taking out bronze!
Announcer

Also in third place, with an equal 26 points, is Lord Limbo from Esselldee. Lord Limbo managed to limbo under a 45cm bar while wearing his 'Limbo Lord' crown, which was over half a metre tall.

With 26 points, and tying for third, we also have Jeff Bendman from Drummond & Elmlsey. Jeff wowed the judges with by dancing and limboing backwards under the bar.

The proof is in the pudding!
Posted Image

Gold was taken out by Maas Tricht from Blaat with a stunning 30 points:
Here is a most remarkable picture of the athlete at work:
Posted Image

announcer

Maas bucked all tradition by disregarding the usual limbo dances and instead opting to dance the entire second act of 'The Nutcracker' ballet. To add to the spectacle, Maas somehow managed to balance a live sheep on their head for the entire event, as well as limboing their way under a 43cm bar in the process.

Silver went to:
announcer

In second place, with 27, it's Deanna Troi from Trecdom2. Deanna wore a very impressive model of the starship Enterprise, complete with flashing lights and realistic sound effects, as her hat.

And tying for second, with an equal 27 points, was Space Nekos' Sema Komelar. Sema danced an impressive cha-cha while limbo-ing under an amazingly low 43cm bar.

Fez Canterbury from Parrrrtay, Canada sadly missed out, but not without comment from:
Bullseye Betty

We’ll start with a clear fan favorite for an IBC medal, Fez Canterbury from Parrrrtay, Canada. Her donut hat was clearly the hit of the Limbo contest. And her dancing while going under the initial tall bar was fabulous. In fact, the Judges gave her a “9” for dancing, and a high “7” for the hat.
Unfortunately, while Fez was circling back to for another go at a lower height, a horde of starving beach bums zeroed in, snatched her scrumptious donuts and platter, and disappeared into the thick Palm Tree Forest of Taco Island…Unfazed, Canterbury resumed her limboing with tea cups and platters supplied by adoring fans.

Posted Image Posted Image
Bullseye Betty

However, following a heated discussion among the Judges, it was decided that a tea cup balanced on one’s head did not constitute a “silly hat” under IBC rules. The final ruling left the very good scores for her extraordinary dancing talent and the ‘sweetness’ of her original head gear. But the Judges gave her a “0” for height, throwing out all the successful passes under the bar while adorned with a tea cup on her brow.

Barry

What a sour ending to such a sweet story. Hahaha. “Sour”, “sweet”, “donuts”? Get it? …Uh, never mind then.

*Betty glares at Barry*

And for those of you savouring judge gossip, here is your titbit:

Barry’s Aide

Thank you, Your Butler Magnificentship.. Unfortunately, yep, yet another event appears to have been overshadowed somewhat by a controversy over the possible bias of the Judges. As if awarding Blaat the Gold and Grub a Bronze wasn’t enough to raise even the most trusting of eyebrows, Celestial Maple from Wysteria has brought forth claims of gender and age discrimination against mature older women. Although many are writing off the charges as merely another unsubstantiated fabrication by a notoriously grumpy contestant, the rather off-colored rant was disturbing.

To paraphrase -and sanitize as best we can - her outburst in the Beachcombers Bleachers, Celestial Maple claimed that her surfer received low marks because of the Judges feeling threatened by a middle-aged female surfer who knew how to ride big boards. Needless to say, this was met with a scathing retort from one of the Judges.

Posted Image Posted Image

Barry’s Aide

The Texas Judge, and member of the NewTexas Bikini Team, LuLuBelle Lugnut, claimed the allegation was total nonsense. Jug-, er, Judge Lugnut said, and I quote: “Nonsense! The fact that I was selected by a batch of clueless, redneck chauvinist Texas wannabe stud-muffins to represent them as a Judge in the IBC, shows her claims to be false. And as far as big, uh, ‘boards’ go, well she would do well to remember that everything is bigger in Texas, including….

Individual Sailing-Boat Orienteering
This may be the most challenging of our events. Sailboat Captains must circumnavigate an orienteering course around Taco Island in the quickest time possible. For no good reason, but interestingly, it will have a “running” start, beginning inside the Taco Tiki Bar. At the starter’s gun, each Captain must dash from their barstools, down the beach to their anchored sailboats, and then navigate their way around or through various obstacles at sea, back to the starting dock, and finally up the beach to their starting barstools in the Taco Tiki Bar.

"Under The Sea” Spear Gunning
Here, scuba divers from all participating Nations will maneuver their way through Shipwreck Reef and spear gun various targets for points. Prized targets will range from the highly sought after & scrumptious “Blue Water Bacon Fish”, to the poisonous and highly ‘ouch!’-producing “Schnitzel-Like Smelling Algae Plant”. However…Beware! Thar be monsters, traps, and many sharp pointy things in them thar corals, as well!

Rock Pool Forage and Cook Off
This is primarily a culinary competition. Chefs from each Nation must search through rock pools, and forage under the rocks, to find mouth-watering ingredients to cook a delicious meal for the Judges.

"Spice My World” Cocktail Making and Judges’ Toast
The culminating event of the Islander’s Beach Championship is one requiring Mixologists to create a unique cocktail - with an extra kick – again, for the judges’ palates. Each concoction should capture the spirit of these Islander games. They should also strive to provide a memorable beverage with which to remember each participating Nation, until we all meet in friendship once again, in the next inter-regional games. However, the Chefs will also be graded on the quality of a befitting toast they make to the Judges on the subject of how fairly and magnificently the Judges have carried out their difficult tasks during the games.

If you have any pics of your athletes for any of the above - or a story to tell about your athletes - post for you in this thread:
The Islanders Beach Championship: Beachcombers Bleachers

It might lead to a commentary from Barry, Barry's Aide, the Announcer or Bullseye Betty in the official thread:
The Islander's Beach Championship: Events and Scores

.....arguably more fun than the actual medals!

Scandalous allegations of bribery and a protest lodged with regard a discriminatory ruling that favours the attitudinally challenged, have marred the previously good sportsmanship mood of the Islanders Beach Championship this month.

Ananke has pointed an accusing finger at our own Drummond and Elmsley, and The Candy Lane of XKI, saying either they have been doped or else one of the judges (here Ananke is caught directing an insinuating glance at Mortimer G. Hornsnapple III - the XKI judge) is accepting bribes.

Posted Image
Mortimer G. Hornsnapple III

Almonaster formally presented the following:
Almonaster

Boo! Fix!

Scaling by height is unfair to the shorter candidates. Limbo is about how low you can go, plain and simple, not "what proportion of your height you can bend to".

Almonaster Nuevo is lodging a formal protest at the last-minute rule change - influenced, we believe, by the Texas delegation.

Ambassador from Canada to XKI ruffled feathers further by publically coming out in support of the above protest on behalf of Devimanian height minimist and Silly Hat Limbo Competition athletic entrant, Lady Corner, who complained bitterly about our height centred culture, where products in supermarkets cannot be reached by height minimists like herself.

Posted Image
A disgruntled Lady Corner

There is no questioning the handling interest in the vessel sailed in the event by Neuvan athlete Hotanken Valero
Posted Image
Nor the quality of Parkplacean skipper and athlete Iona Headstay:
Posted Image

However, despite this, remarkably Canada did not score any medals in the “Individual Sailing-Boat Orienteering” event.
All Canadian entrants might as well have been of the same calibre as unfortunate Deviamanian, Willy Knot:
Posted Image

So without any further ado:

Individual Sailing-Boat Orienteering went to:

Bronze: Sue Lu-Pris from Picos Elissa de Los Tres Valles
Silver: Ro Gainer from Tierra de Madre
Gold: Roger Smith from Richard

In keeping with the current down turn in sportsmanship morale at the Islanders Beach Championship, the Individual Sailing-Boat Orienteering Event opened with a minimum of sportsmanlike decorum.

Bullseye Betty

Bullseye Betty: Good evening, Barry. Today’s sailboat competition was to start by having all the nations’ Captain’s race from their bar stools here, down to the docks, and onto their boats. Unfortunately, things didn’t go quite as planned….As soon as the doors opened this morning, there was a mad rush by the 89 Captains to try to get advantageous bar stools as close to the door as they could. This combined with many of their fans pushing and shoving their way into the bar to follow their athletes, led to mass chaos and several fights.

Posted Image Posted Image

Bullseye Betty

Amid all the confusion and ruckus, Canadian Judge, Sandy McDougal, who was to officially start the race, attempted to intervene and break-up several scuffles. Thanks to a surprisingly strong and effective right hook taught to Judge McDougal by her championship boxing mother, she initially appeared to be having some success.

Posted Image

Betty Bullseye

However, one of the Captain’s, “Foxy” June Green of Stormaen, felt constrained to come to her fellow Canadian’s aid in the scuffle and accidently ended up blowing Judge McDougal’s ‘Starter’s Whistle’.

Posted Image

Barry

Oh no!

Betty Bullseye

Oh yes. An incredible stampede ensued with all the Captains trying to elbow their way out the door at the same time to get down to their boats. To her credit, Captain Green remained behind to assure that Judge McDougal was unharmed. However, to her detriment that compassion cost her precious time and she finished with the slowest time in that portion of the event.

The fifth report from the games left us wondering about the rioting in the streets, with sources accusing judges of unfair and often dubious scoring
Posted Image Posted Image

Rioting has since been temporarily quelled:
Bullseye Betty

Well, unfortunately the IBC games are getting uglier and uglier with each event. Although the riots following our last contest were quelled by giving the rampaging crowds free Tacos, Muffins, and 1% discount coupons on suntan lotion, it seems that the Judges just continue to fan the flames of discontent.

It appears that the Delegate for 10000 Islands, Markanite has made an important statement about the IBC urging

Maranite

My Fellow Islanders and Esteemed Regions, Nations, and Athletes participating in the Islanders Beach Championship….Like you and the fans in the Beachcomber Bleachers, I am appalled at the antics and the judging of these IBC games. We have seen clear cases of favoritism and prejudicial scoring. As a result, we have also seen rioting in our Taco Island streets, and today a powerful Islander’s athlete even saw it necessary to attempt to spear one of the Judges.. I believe that attack was justified.. My Nation, itself, has been the victim of scoring discrimination – I mean, how could my expert spear shooting guy, Neppett Barr, receive the same score as some military latrine cleaner like Ishmael of Controlitia, XKI?

Sharing silver with Shiryou Cocinero is Ludmila Meyer from Galicia Volhynia.

The bronze went to:

Vivian Woodfern from New Ecopia
Chef Durkheim from HumanSanity
Chef Monty Haisnick from Picos Elissa de Los Tres Valles
Kathrik Velaboose from Deep South Borland
Patti Page from South Titania

And in further fun news for Canada:
Bullseye Betty

Finally, with Canada having made such a strong showing in the IBC, everyone was eagerly anticipating the choice of Canadian Judge Sandy McDougal. The choice was actually a pretty easy one, as Chef Bobby Filet from Esselldee, had managed to capture an extremely rare baby “Bacon Fish” that had apparently become disoriented and mistakenly swam into a rock pool eddy. “Golly gee, you know Ess really did a great job,” Sandy beamed. ”Jeepers. She’d have medaled, for sure, if she’d caught a Canadian Bacon Fish.”
