Well I've done it. I've talked myself into returning to the forum.

Three things prompted me to do this foolish thing:

1) Reading abut the invasion of Canada
It's funny, given that I don't give a damn about NS, but the invasion of Canada really ticked me off. The fact that raiders can impose their idea of fun on large groups of others who aren't interested, is my biggest peeve with the game.

Being just one more endorsement doesn't inspire me. However, Al's brilliant idea of incorporating some puppets in your play, appeals to me (to both up the cost of operations for the raiders and give you a method to bypass any passwording of the region).

I'm not really up on the mechanics of influence. If anyone wants to fill me in either PM me or shoot me an informative link.

2) It's not all play
While doing a little research on the history of the region I came across a post (by Judith Gap) that reminded me that spending time in the forum can in fact be useful to honing RL skills. Not to mention you can meet, and get to know, some cool people from around the world. I'll quote that post below - see if you feel inspired also.

3) Art rocks
I notice that a few of the members here are supporters of the arts. This area if interest happens to overlap with parts of my RL. I would like to engage with people on this topic area and hopefully learn about some cool stuff.

Now - I need to ask the kind and wonderful people of this region for a big favor.

I'm rejoining the region but I don't want to get hooked on it. I have a problem in that this forum can easily become like opium or crack to me.

Should you notice that I am either posting a lot/spending a lot of time on NS politics. Or if the passion level of my posts starts increasing. Please give me a gentle slap on the head and remind me that spending too much time and effort in fantasy is not good. (note I said gentle).

This is very important. If I get too sucked into this place I will have to quit again to avoid RL crashing around me. Whatever you do, DO NOT let me run for office.

Many thanks in advance - I look forward to renewing friendships and making some new ones. :cananim:

Here's that post I referred to above (from Jun 27 2005):

IRL, I've been serving on the national board for AEPL as webmaster. My work is nothing fancy and nothing new to them. Anyway....

I had felt out of my depth in board meeting for the longest time. I could never think of relevant issues quick enough to contribute to discussion. The last meeting (where I was for the week) was different, and it was different because of our forums here.

In our most recent meeting, the primary chairperson decided that our organization should enter into an alliance with another organization, GRACE, which supports spirituality (of all kinds) in the educational process. He envisions that we share email lists and particpate in each other's newsletters. I was able to articulate in the meeting that I was afraid that an alliance would define our organization as spiritually-based exclusively, instead of being open to a mutliplicity of viewpoints about education. I was able to suggest that we might include brief posts in each other's newletters (embassy vs alliance here).

I was also able to defend a policy that a sub-committee I was working with had drafted regarding election policies. In it we had developed a section (in Feb.) about "Malfunctioning Officers" and what to do. Based on discussions with the bright minds of Carb, Daemon, HB, Chex, and the others, I was better able to defend the subcommittee's vision of how the group's constitution should be revised. I was also able to better see other recommendations that were being made about the organization's constitution largely because of similar conversations in Canada's forums.

I want to thank all nations of this forum for helping in my professional development.

Now I think I'll go enjoy a beer pulled out of a Moose's butt: :moose:

Don't you worry, I will make it my personal business to tick you off ever so gently :garpa: powers are no joke!

I like your three reasons, especially the last.

I really want to get back to Artwork Challenge now things are starting to settle down a little more here.
Note Goggalor only visits our forum for the Artwork challenge thread :)

Hi guys nice to hear from ya.

I'n not sure about participating in the Artwork Challenge ML. I have never created any digital art. I plan on teaching myself Blender (mainly for the 3d modeling). There might be a point when I could create some illustrations with that. They will however be done in the extreme primitive style ;)

A lot of the point of the Artwork Challenge was to learn tools or styles we don't usually use. I've never tried blender, so if you wanted to set a challenge at some point, that would be good.

That's an interesting idea. Might force me to make some progress on the learning front.
