This is where our Canadian Community College central location is located. It is a nerve centre for all our educational concerns, suggestions and bright ideas. Come here if there is anything you wish to discuss re our learning programs. Or just come for a drink, a bagel and possibly a debate. The café is open for business. This thread will provide links to anything on our forum that is a learning opportunity. Threads like 'Where in the World', 'Science Faction', or even the Space Station role play will have a link to here. This is because we believe learning and curiosity are a mostly an organic experience, they 'spring up' where they are inspired from - it is a shame to force them into one particular place. I will get around to setting up the links - let me know of any you would particularly like to see here. To celebrate, tomorrow morning (mine I mean) I will set up new thread over in 'Real Life Politics and Current Events' that will continue the lively discussion about politics that we began to have in the '1000 pages' thread. Lots of information about political systems and history in our various countries was shared, and lately I have been looking at Anarchy. This thread will include a link to here, so hopefully it and our other educational threads will always be easy to find.

I don't quite see how this is going to work, but don't let that stop anyone. Once the College opens, then things may fall into place. |

Yes please Eggplants, we need more eggplants! *sets up an eggplant plant by the window for decoration* First linky to a learning thread, as promised: Does an Anarchist Carry Flowers? ....I will set this link to thread thing more logically (beware, logic is not my strong point!) when I have had time to think - just wanted to get the ball rolling. We are at the cafe/nerve centre here - if you have thoughts about how you would like to see it set up (or anything else education related) post a reply |

Sorry, the Community College thing - the best I can do for now. I hope too that it will make more sense as we get things going. I think I am having trouble explaining myself  I hoped we had agreed to something like this in the HoC thread - but it went dead when I re-stated my particular ideas about education, so I thought I would just start something and see what happens! If you really don't agree with this approach - just let me know and we will try something else |

For the College itself, I think we need a board section, so we can open threads for the courses. |

Good idea. We can set one up when we get a couple of folk interested in being on the board. Any takers? |

I'm all for it! Just wish I had something educational (and, you know, real) to impart... Alas, I'm an avid learner so I'll likely attend many a course! |

Wait on - I need to back up  Are we thinking about following the approach to learning in the usual way? An actual Community College or University? I am happy to give this a go if folk here want this, but..... .........I have reservations. I worry that structuring the whole thing this much will simply lead to another dead bunch of threads - as are experienced in so many regions that open up universities. Will anyone be willing to take on running a course in anything (let alone attend one) here in Canada? Not that we are disinterested in learning, but I think we tend to favour an osmotic approach ![]() I also wanted to check exactly what we mean by board - do we mean 'Board of Education' or 'University Board' ........ or is board also a techy term used to describe an actual new area of activity. Like 'The Village' or 'Standing Around the Watercoler'? Because a 'Board of Education' or some such simply requires a new topic - easy done by any one of us. I have one here, I can create another and delete this one if we want to get rid of the café idea on the interests of getting more formal. |

Yes - actual college, as discussed in the HoC Wysteria thread. Less formal than a Uni - no boards of education or registrations or suchlike formalities - anyone can post up anything they want to teach. This thread could be useful for after-class discussions. Board section, yes : techy term. An area like the Political Parties had, within the village. (Use "new forum" function on the Admin CP, set the default view to "from the beginning") Just my tuppence worth, but at some point we need to do something, not just wait for a few more posts to trickle in over the months.

Nothing like moving out from the HoC and getting it real ![]() Ok I will set up a college board sometime in the next few days. Everyone else gets the job of proving me wrong I hope, by making sure this thing is active. Otherwise we simply go back to linking threads to our playful educational enterprises that are already in place from here, or from the board, as we will have one by then. Oi, seeing as we are getting more formal, what are we calling this thing? How about the Canadian Community College?....... You know, the CCC |
