Good trailer. It came out a while ago, but I was more impressed than I thought I would be by John Carter of Mars. They stayed pretty close to the book, and managed to capture the feel of the place remarkably well. Well worth a watch IMHO. |

I watched John Carter on a flight a few months back. Never read the original book, but I agree it was a good movie. |

I saw this a few weeks ago, and rather enjoyed it. High art it ain't, but a decent action romp - yes. I think this was intended largely as a reboot backgrounder. Very few people I think would not know the story of Kal-El's origin in the death of Krypton, and his growing up in Smallville, USA. This version had some subtle variations - Krypton is darker, and the young Clark Kent has to struggle as a social outcast coming to terms with his heritage. It's still pretty superficial, but there are occasional moments such as the hurricane scene where it manages a little emotional depth, however hokey. The special effects are slick, but get rather eye and ear straining at times. There is little thought given to external continuity - for example, a week after large chunks of Metropolis are flattened, everyone is happily back at work. It's a good base to build on - I plan on seeing the next one. 6+/10 |
