:D :hail:

I was pleasantly surprised to see him in this. They pulled together a pretty stellar cast, with Skarsgard, Portman, Hopkins, Hemsworth, and Hiddleston. I really loved how they chose to portray Loki. He was more of an anti-hero than a straight up villain. Half the time I found myself rooting for him as the good guy.

Actually this version of Cap America sort of reminds me of a Road Warrior clone. Look at his bike and gear: there's a wrench attached to the back fender, the rifle is slung on the front wheel, and other bric a brac hangs loose from all over the place. It is the exact opposite of Batman and his snazzy rides. Could be it'll be a refreshing change of pace, who knows?

I don't see the wrench.

Other than a loose saddlebag in the rear view shot, looks like a standard WWII US Army Harley (well, except that the engine cylinders aren't painted Olive Drab) with a front mounted Thompson Sub-machinegun scabbard.

X-Men: First Class - Movie Clip "Magic Trick"

Gotta say, that X-Men clip looks pretty decent. Maybe I'm wrong and this movie will turn out to be awesome after all.

So far Rosie Huntington-Whitely doesn't look like that bad an actress. Although, I'm admittedly a poor judge of acting ability...

I wasn't really looking forward to Superman, until I heard Christopher Nolan wasn't just brought on board, but he actually pitched the movie in the first place. If that's true, I get why some people are so stoked for it. Man of Steel could be the next Dark Knight or Batman Begins.

Went to the movie theater, couldn't help myself and watched X-Men. It wasn't bad, certainly not as bad as I expected. There were some really, really good parts. One scene in particular even brought me to tears.

During the first 20-30 minutes, I liked the self-destructive, vengeance-driven scenes of Magneto the best. The scene where he and Prof. X meet for the first time really tugged at my heartstrings too. And certain very major character's unexpected cameo 15 minutes later was hi-larious. There are a lot of little easter eggs like that. I got a few, but I'm sure there are many I didn't, they're fun to look for.

Didn't do continuity between movies many favors though, made it wonkier even (minor spoiler alert, for example, Prof. X was standing in his X-Men Origins: Wolverine cameo, but he's crippled at the end of First Class, and the brother-sister dynamic between him and Mystique makes some of her actions in the other films seem very cold-blooded and kinda out of character).

The music during the climactic battle was a little overpowering, and Michael Fassbender's Irish accent was sneaking out a tiny bit near the end. And I thought Magneto's classic red/purple costume looked way better from behind than it did in the front.

Liked Kevin Bacon as the main baddie, and how his force of personality was in many ways more useful than his superpower when it came to getting things done. Nicholas Hoult did a very good job too, as Dr. Hank McCoy/Beast. Though, post-transformation Beast could've been done a little better. Hearing the barely changed previous geeky human voice coming out of that big hairy, uh, beast, was kinda weird, like bad dubbing in a foreign film.

All in all, fairly enjoyable summer popcorn movie.

They're finally making a 100 Bullets tv show, whooooooooooooo!!!

Posted Image

How far would you go to repay a wrong if you had 100 untraceable bullets?

It seems that DC/WB are finally looking to one of the Vertigo imprint's more popular titles for adaptation, Brian Azzarello's award winning crime comic 100 Bullets.

What is 100 Bullets about? The critically-acclaimed comic book hinges on the question of whether people would take the chance to get away with revenge. It’s a Twilight Zone-like morality decision, where the mysterious Agent Graves approaches people who have been victim of some kind of terrible injustice, and gives them the chance to set things right in the form of a nondescript attaché case containing a handgun, 100 untraceable bullets, a photograph of a person, and incontrovertible evidence that the target presented is primarily and personally responsible for recipient’s woes. The bullets are completely untraceable and any law enforcement investigation that uncovers one of them will immediately cease.

Created by Brian Azzarello and Eduardo Risso, the comic began as a fascinating but brutal study of human nature. But as 100 Bullets unfolded, it became a sprawling, even byzantine, crime saga involving a secret society known as The Trust, a centuries-old conspiracy, and Graves' scheme to bring the group down. The series, which ran for 100 issues, from August 1999 to April 2009, has earned multiple Eisner and Harvey awards.

Both the writing and artwork in 100 Bullets exemplifies the noir and pulp genres of popular modern fiction. It presents morally ambiguous stories with dark realism. Consistent with noir convention, most of the characters are deeply flawed. As is also quite common in such genres, 100 Bullets frequently portrays stylized and graphic violence. 100 Bullets is notable for creator/writer Brian Azzarello's realistic use of regional and local dialects/accents, as well as the frequent, sometimes dense use of slang and oblique, metaphorical language in his characters' dialogue. While initially presented as an episodic series of self-contained storylines, 100 Bullets eventually becomes a sprawling crime saga that embraces a sense that everyone and everything is connected.

I know I said I was gonna wait until the DVD came out before I watched it, but sometimes when I'm near a movie theater I just can't help myself, I love movies. So, here it is...

Transformers: Dark of the Moon - Ryl's Review
The first hour or so felt a little all over the place and somewhat incoherent. Bay's reputation for unstructured storytelling remains fairly justified. And there were several comments/lines that came off a tiny bit sexist, but maybe that depends on your sensitivity to political correctness. They tried hard with the humour, a lot of it was way over the top. Some of it didn't work and ended up being just plain weird. Sam's mom had this one ridiculously funny comment though, and Shia's reaction to it was pure gold. :D Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was decent, all things considered. But Bay can't resist another gratuitous lingering upskirt/ass shot like he did with Isabel Lucas as the Pretender Decepticon in the last movie. Oh, and the climax of the movie dragged, on and on... and on...
This installment was definitely darker than the previous two, I'll give them that, though it doesn't really happen until the second half when the world starts to end. Mudflap and Skids are gone thank god, but they've simply been replaced with two slightly less annoying comic relief 'bots. Lots of cool action-y slo-mo shots of course, some they could have gotten away without, but others that actually get your adrenaline pumping. There were a few instances of annoying "creativity" where they thought it would be gnarly to cut to black and lose the the audio for a few seconds, like in the trailer, which was obviously imitating the Inception trailer. Like Revenge of the Fallen, they tried to make parts really touching and emotional, that make you feel as much for the characters as the first movie did, but this time more of those moments work. I really hope they don't go the route of Pirates of the Caribbean (or Die Hard, or Indiana Jones, etc) and make an unnecessary fourth entry after they've all but tied up all the loose ends and sent the main characters riding off into the sunset.
One thing that annoyed me though, and could be considered a very minor spoiler, is Bumblebee still can't talk. It's less annoying than in the previous movie since he isn't behaving like a giant robotic puppy the whole time, but still, what the hell? They can bring Optimus and Megatron back from the dead, but they can't give Bumblebee his voice back, even though Ratchet supposedly fixed him at the end of the first movie?

Sorry, but I have, for the past 25 years or so, considered Transformers to be hands down the stupidest, dumbassed, moronic concept for "entertainment" to be conceived in my lifetime. I just can't stand even LOOKING at still pictures of this garbage, let alone go see a movie.
Robots that can change into trucks and planes? WHY???? There's no need for them to do so! And worse are the ones that change into tape cassettes...I can think of no more utterly useless "power" than that.
This whole franchise needs to be deleted back to around 1983, or whenever it first appeared. Totally removed from human memory and media. God help anyone who is actually impressed by it!
Why not try actually making good movies for a change? It's not like we have a glut of them or anything. Take Michael Bay and Uwe Boll out to the Marianas Trench with heavy weights, and toss them overboard. Maybe that'll help.

Well, I figure it's probably more enjoyable than the Smurfs, Muppets, Marmaduke, Yogi Bear, Mr. Popper's Penguins, Conan the Barbarian, Beverly Hills Chiuhuahua movies...

The lesser evil, so to speak.

This is true. I don't know why I was in such a foul mood when I posted that. I do hate Transformers and Gobots, true, but that much? It's just a show....
I'm sure if I tried, I could come up with far worse franchises.
