Sometimes, time is fleeting, and you need to put out national information quickly and to the point. That is where this thread comes into it. Rather than right a full newspaper article about an event in your country, just right a few sentences briefly outlining what's going on.

If you're somebody who isn't into roleplay but still wants to participate in regional events, then this thread can be used for that too. It allows you to keep upto date, as well as keep involved in events without the need for such things as character dialogue. Post anything you like, but keep it to a few sentences or a brief paragraph.

I'll be posting a simple example just below, though you don't have to stick to the layout I use.

  • Following the sudden death of party leader Joe Watson last month, Dean Emerson is elected leader of the Liberal Party of Stormaen (LPS) by a large margin over caretaker leader Adam Smith.

  • Meanwhile, SBC News 24, Stormaen's largest news only channel, was speculating within minutes that Emerson may try and force an early election with a vote of no confidence against Chief Minister James Strachan.

  • The CAFTA summit continues in Niongor, with minor protests taking place from environmental and anti-globalisation groups.

  • After weeks of negotiations, years of joint election candidates, and overwhelming support from the members of both parties, Walter Keppel, leader of the left-wing Democratic Labour Party, and Julia Muyskens, leader of the Left-Green Alliance, formerly announce their parties will merge in April. The new party shall be called, the Red-Green Party (Rooi-Groen Party).

(OOC: I really like this news wire idea! I was thinking of a news ticker or something myself, but this will do! )

- Large scale protests, orgainized by the opposition Justice Coalition, swept throughout the nation, protesting the CAFTA Summit. Government supporters retaliated, with an equal amount of protesting.

- Premier Tommy Banken's ruling coaltion continues to plan a major constitutional change, which requries the approval of the National Council and all provincial assemblies. Details are sketchy, but they involve the introduction of an upper house, called the Imperial Senate.

  • There is increasing pressure tonight on the Royal Palace and the Government of Nordrige to release information about the King's state of well being, after reports he was admitted to hospital suddenly last week. Within Nordrige, the King's well being is considered a state secret. It was announced in summer 2009 that the King had underwent treatment for cancer and was recovering well.

  • Polls for May's election show that the Coalition, made up of Venstre ("Liberals") and Arbeiderpartiet ("Labour party") are likely to remain in power, as Høyre ("Conservatives") lead narrows to only 3 points from a high of 10 at the years start. First Minister Bergesen said, "This shows people are confident in Venstre doing what is needed to keep Nordrige on track."

  • Dean Emerson, new leader of the Liberal Party of Stormaen (LPS), challenges current Chief Minister James Strachan to a debate in an open letter published in The Daily Herald newspaper. The letter is also highly critical of Strachan, his party (Stormaen Democrat & Labour Party, SDLP), and their 14 years in office. The Chief Minister's office is yet to reply.

  • Meanwhile, rival newspaper The Stormaen Times, questions Emerson's credentials to be party leader. Saying Emerson is "too young, too inexperienced and too brazen" and continuing that Emerson will do his "ailing party" no favours in the polls.

  • Die Belasting Hervorming Komitee ("The Tax Reform Committee"), a powerful group of both Senators and MPs from all parties in Parliament, formally approves the implementation of the so called "Kobus Plan" for the financial year starting 30 April 2010.

The "Kobus Plan", outlined by President Sebastiaan Kobus in 2005, would create a flat federal income tax rate whereby 90% of tax payers, regardless of income size, would pay the same percentage on income tax. The lower 10% of incomes would pay a lower tax rate or would pay no income tax. Opinion polls show 68% of people in Niongor approve the idea of what President Kobus calls "tax equality".

  • In a rare move, Deputy Chief Minister John Forster has heavily criticised the Kobus Plan, calling it "reckless and uncaring" towards those on lower incomes. Forster went on to say the Kobus Plan would "severely disadvantage" the people of Niongor.

  • Meanwhile, opposition leader Dean Emerson has stated that Forster's remarks had "the timing of a genuine idiot". He went onto say Forster would "compromise" any future relations with Niongor.

  • In a damning put down of Stormaen's Deputy Chief Minister, Niongor's Vice President Femke Voorde has said, "Heer Forster has insulted the entire voting population of Niongor with his insulting comments. We the people voted for the Kobus Plan, we voted for tax equality. If Forster is going to pass comment on the business of other countries, I suggest he get his facts right first."

  • The media in Niongor seems to largely support Voorde in the dispute of words. Die Stem goes so far as to say, "Forster has the potential to ruin Stormaen's progress at the CAFTA summit."

  • Members of Stormaen's largest trade union, Unity, vote in favour of a third general strike over pay and working hours which shall last 9 - 11 April. Unity represents some 300,000 workers.

  • Opposition politicians and the majority of the media have denounced the strike actions, with LPS leader Dean Emerson calling the actions, "selfish and careless". Meanwhile, the SDLP government (which is largely funded by Unity and other trade unions) has made no official statement on the strike action but a spokesman said "negotiations are ongoing".

-Justice coaltion leaders commended the Kobus plan, quoting "It will give Niongor prosperity and wealth. This, unlike CAFTA, is one of Niongor's better ideas." The Social Democratic Alliance had no comment.

-Constitutional reforms have stalled over debates in the commitee set on drawing up the change has disagreed over how to elect the proposed upper house.

  • The Daily Herald publishes the first opinion polls taken since Emerson became party leader. The polls show the Liberal Party of Stormaen neck and neck with the governing Stormaen Democrat & Labour Party for the first time in 14 years.

  • Breaking his silence, President Kobus has responded to criticisms of the Kobus Plan. In a brief statement, the President said, "This plan will see Niongor introduce tax equality. All people paying the same to the government, if anything, and not being disadvantaged by being hard working, or self-employed, or successful in business and enterprise."

He continued, "This plan was democratically approved by both the people and those they elected. After all is said and done: the people alone decide how they shall be ruled and taxed. They have made their choice and they are answerable to nobody but themselves."

  • Niongor's largest newspaper, Die Stem, runs with the headline, "Aanspreeklik vir niemand!" (English: "Answerable to nobody!") with a defiant Kobus pictured on the front page. An opinion poll mentioned in the opening of the article shows approval of the Kobus Plan rising within Niongor; now standing at 72% in favour.

  • The Government and HM Defence Staff announces the beginning of Operasjon Grensevakt ("Operation Border Watch") in the unoccupied territory east of Nordrige.

  • The announcement has ignited a firestorm throughout Nordrige. The media and constitutional experts are already questioning the legality of the move and any hidden motives the government may have.

  • Within minutes of the announcement, Søren Falk the leader of the opposition Høyre party has criticised Operasjon Grensevakt and has said it has destroyed Nordrige's proud 65 year neutrality and will ruin the Kingdom's international reputation.

  • Speaking on behalf of the government, Deputy Chief Minister John Forster has refused to condemn the invasion of the former Blackshear Territory by Nordrige. Speaking from Stirling House (the official home of the Chief Minister), Mr Forster said, "We can none of us comment on this event until we know the full facts; which as of this moment we do not fully know or understand."

  • Meanwhile, the leaders of the other parties in Parliament (the LPS, CPS and independents) have signed a petition heavily criticising Nordrige and her government. Dean Emerson, leader of the LPS, said, "It is extremely disappointing that the Government of Stormaen has not been more outspoken on this. Truly cowardly."
