you guys must have heard of joe the plumber, who would clearly win the entire election if he were running. i personally disagree with almost everything this "joe" said (at least what i heard) except that americans should decide for themselves who to vote for. the real reason i bring him up is because evn in poland he got more than 10 minutes of news time devoted to him, including the broadcast of an interview the day after the debate. what do you guys think of joe the plumber? |

What I think? I think Joe the Plumber is a cheap political trick. He's a registered Republican partisan posing as an undecided voter, who just so happens to be directly related to Charles Keating's son-in-law. He's also wrong about Obama's tax reform. He would end up paying an increase of $900 a year. Certainly not crippling for a "plumber" making 250k/year. Oh and... Hiya Canada.

Does this guy REALLY make $250K a year? Sounds a bit much for a plumber. ![]() Anywho, I agree with Eunomia: plant a guy who pretends to be undecided and see what happens. |

I seem to remember reading in a paper, during the last election, that John Kerry tried this tactic. An "undecided" voter that questioned everything Bush had done, yet turned out he was not only registered Democrat, but an actively campaigning one. I tried finding something online about it but to no avail. BBC and ITV here in the UK both covered Joe the Plummer and interviewed people from his town. As usual the BBC played the Obama Drama card. A surpringly English sounding "local woman" stated "It's made me more likely to vote Obama..." (I kid you not she was getting this ---> <--- from everyone in the bar!). I'm not accusing the BBC of faking interviews...but they've done it in the past.To clarify on Joe: he doesn't make 250k a year, he hopes to if he bought a business or some such. i, personally, thought he sounded a bit too republican to be "undecided", but i would me more put off by it if the two parties weren't already almost the same. for comparison: obama hosted a dinner on his campaign where the entry fee was something like $30,000. in canada, it's only the conservative party that pulls shit like that, and, being the right-wing party, it's expected. but the democrats are supposed to be the party of regular working people, no? who among them can afford a $30,000 dinner with the senator? |

Pay lots of money = more money to use in campaigns But I do see your point. It just doesn't feel right.

Spot on man. Obama needs the money, though. He's way ahead in the political funding, so he can afford better advertisements and such. Just shows you have anybody, be they Obama or otherwise, will screw over anybody and everybody to get power. In the UK, the Conservative Party are richer than Labour and Liberal Democrats put together (or so I read). But then, Labour is massively in debt, which is basically reflective of how they run the country...just put us all in debt, but I won't get into that...yet :ph43r:  |
