Today there was a reminder that Earth is always suseptible to meteor strikes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_TC3 It didn't strike the Earth, and it exploded well above the sparsely populated area below, but it's a stark reminder - there's many a curve ball out there in space. Lucky it didn't strike a populated area or explode over one, as the article states:

I remember a few years ago when that basket ball sized meteor burned up over southern New Zealand in mid-afternoon. Some NZers actually came up with the theory, "It's a secret US aircraft...!" :lol: I have no time for conspiracy theorists! :rolleyes: |
