Seems Stephen "my favourite colour is probably gray...maybe" Harper is riding a popularity wave and calling an election to boost his numbers in the so-called "deadlocked parliament" of Canada.

So, what do all you Canadians think? I'm not too well informed on Canadian politics, so it would be unfair for me to comment...well, comment too much :shifty:

Let the orderly, Canadian style debate commence!

Stephane Dion looks like the sort of guy who couldn't lead a chook raffle let alone a country.

You know how some people just look like leaders, for some reason? He's the opposite of that. :P

My thoughts exactly!! Looks like the type whereby if he got to power, it would be the advisors running the country

There was a poll a few weeks, ago that asked who would be the best prime minister. The results:

Stephane Dion: 22%
Stephen Harper 46%

I prefer Stephen more then Stephane, any DAY! Rick Mercer makes fun of Dion, so much! "Stephane Dion wants to know who left a copy of huge loser magazine on his desk"

Anyways, The conservatives will more then likely win this election, while the Green Party may finally pick up a seat in the Commons.

well, I think the fact that Harper kinda just didn't follow his own law may play a part in the outcome....Also, I got some of those "Not campaigning, but see what we are going to do, Liberals are bad" ads for the conservatives. We think the arrow going to the voting ballot points to Jack Layton and not Stephen Harper, but that could just be me.

I've been told off a Canadian friend that the conservatives are quite popular in Canada right now (well, obv Kit, that's why he's calling an election!) but I mean really popular, apparently they're even gaining ground against the Québécois which I didn't think was possible.

My friend comes from Nova Scotia and says that traditionally Liberal areas are turning conservative now  Maybe they're exaggerating...but they are Canadian...(somewhat known for general honesty) *Hi-5 to Canada*

Elizabeth May of the Green Party, who has recently on polls, showed the Green Party Support at 9 - 12% has again be excluded from the televised leader's debates. Stephen Harper apparently told the broadcasters that if May was included, he would not participate. May is going to court to try and fight the decision. Full Story

It Pisses me off, Why are the Bloc Quebecois, allowed to participate in the election, when they only run candidates in Quebec? The Green Party is running candidates in all 308 riding's. In My Opinion, they have more relevance to Canada as a whole, then the Bloc Quebecois do. Also, The Reform and Bloc Quebecois were allowed to participate in their first years, without a single person in the House of Commons. The Green's currently have 1 member, not elected, but still in the House. I like Elizabeth May, but the media seems to block her out, and I can't get to know her more.

My sources say Nova Scotia will probably go liberal.
This is the first time i will not be voting for liberal or conservative.
Neither deserve my vote.
My protest vote will be with a minor party.
NDP i lived with at one time, i don't trust them either.

Interesting. My mate in Nova Scotia says opposite. She says the Libs are losing support there? Like I said before I'm not that well informed on Canadian politics, so would be good if you good gimme a clear picture on it PP

Also, has there been a date set?

The election is on the 14th of october and the english debate is tonight.

In terms of Nova scotia, more than likely the ridings will mostly stay with their incumbants. Although Central Nova (defence minister's riding) could be interesting because the liberals aren't running a candidate there this time and they recieved 10000 votes in 2006. Peter Mackay only won by ~3000 votes so alot depends on where the liberal vote goes, I don't think that it will all go to the green party leader.
Go Mooseheads!
