i completely support the georgians no matter what propaganda the tsarist putin throws at us in the news reports. Georgia should remain independant and democratic, russia should not have another empire. I like how the president said: GEORGIA WILL NEVER SURRENDER! So magnificent.

but basically it's happening in a war between georgia and russia, the usa is on georgia's side more or less and we should be doing more, but bush aint got a back bone. It's basically over provinces of georgia that joined russia.

It's interesting how the situation in Georgia is getting so much media attention. American media usually never reports on world affairs.

Honestly, I don't see how anybody could not have seen this coming. For the past few months Russia was mobilizing troops near its border with Georgia, more specifically, South Ossetia. Georgia's attempt to take back its break away region was a huge mistake on its part because that was just the excuse Russia needed to invade. I know it's wishful thinking, but hopefully, the conflict won't escalate too much further. In my opinion, as crazy as this situation may seem, I don't think Russia would go as far as to annex Georgia or overthrow its government.

Wasn't Georgia once part of Russia? If so, I understand that the Russians probably want their land back, but for one thing Russia is huge already! Another thing is that Georgia is now an independent country. It should stay that way.

Gah... Another topic I probably don't know enough about...so I fail once again!

actually the russians did only they didn't, i mean that they forced georgia into war. The facts are shadowed by russia's comments and false truths. Georgia was competition for oil so russia wants to end that "threat" by taking it. They bombed the pipe lines first. Russia wants to be a superpower again and they are merely using georgia as a patsy and unwilling one at that. I say russia is a country with good people but a bad government. Russia has a bright future but this is a storm cloud that is ruining a possibly good day.

I think it's very complicated what's happened here. Russia supported the break away republics of Georgia saying "they must be free", yet Russia's own break away republics were brutally suppressed. Hypocrisy me thinks.

However, I can see this from both sides. It was absolute stupidity for Georgia to invade South Ossetia, they knew it would provoke a repsonse from Russia. Russia now has the excuse it needs to show the world it still has military might!

Frankly, I really do not mind Putin. He's done a lot for Russia, he has brought back the economy there but it's at the cost of the surrounding nations who are being bullied by Russia to strengthen that economy. However, I think Putin needs to get out of the works, going from President to Prime Minister is just wrong and you can guarantee that Medvedev will make moves to remove term limits on the Presidency of Russia, which will lead to Putin being able to get back in <_<

Either way, like Wool said, Russia has stopped its activities in the area. Overall I think I support Russia more than Georgia :shifty: (because Russia has gas :P )

I figured that it wouldn't escalate. Russia wouldn't take the risk of completely damaging its world standing.

Like in Afghanistan in 1979, for example.

Russia is a puppet state with Vladimir Putin as it's puppet master. I fully support Georgia as well. Russia is a dangerous country. And Putin is one evil sonuvabitch.

Hmmm - not sure where you're going with that one. There were a lot of ambiguous messages on all sides.

Send in the troops is a typical Russian response, though, usually preceded by - lets get the mugs to sign something which allows us to send in troops.

Russia does like being seen as a hard-liner. However, they won't go as far as to place themselves in danger.

i nary do care about russia's oil we have a reserve and by the time we beat their a$$e$ they'dve lost! We have loads of strategic might, we have airplanes that can disable nukes in the sky! China'd probably remain nuetral due to it being semi-supportive of both sides.
