The title explains it all... except, of course, what "false metal" is.

What is false metal? When we say “death to false metal,” are we really only saying “Slayer is awesome”? Of course not. Within the metal universe, false metal is any metal whose primary purpose is anything other than the furthering of metal itself. “Death to false metal” means don’t suit up if you don’t intend to play hard. “Death to false metal” means that when some people are working twenty-four hours a day for peanuts, it’s an insult to put in thirty-hour weeks and ask for quiche. “Death to false metal,” extended far enough, embraces any creative artistic expression born of sweat and toil and the tireless pursuit of the single power chord that will wash over every last one of us, its distortion heavy and warm, its B-string high and trebly and keening like the midsummer wind on a stormy night. . tldr; Shit "music" that bands like slipknot, and korn make. music that requires no talent to make. based on an image, rather than quality of music. ![]() Got any Slayer for sale? |

All very true Shay. ![]() False metal looks like metal but has none of it's musical influences, is marketed the same as mainstream music, and tends to be very "poor old me" in regards to lyrics. Actually, I can't put it any better than Shay. So just read her post. ![]() To Korn and Slipknot I would also add Mudvayne, and nearly every band that gets airplay on MTV's Headbanger's Ball. |

I'm not going to try and defend Slipknot, but Korn's first album was fantastic. They've long since gone downhill and abandoned any real metal, but that doesn't spoil the first effort. Blind remains one of the greatest metal tracks of all time. Surely you can't listen to that and tell me it's not metal? |

I didn't know NS Canada was so metal. Where have you all been hiding? ![]() I've joined up with Encyclopedia Metallium, and I wrote a review for Slayer's "Show No Mercy" album. ![]() You don't have to read it, but here it is: "Metal and men clash once more to the end Warriors above with the power to kill descend Militia of blood troops of hate march to die Soldiers of Hell, veterans of death arise!" First released in 1983, Slayer’s first album “Show No Mercy” has lost none of its pure raw aggression, even 25 years after its release. The clean vocals, the shrieking, the brilliance of the guitars, the quality drumming… it all adds to one hell of an album. The lyrics glorify Satanism and violence (as you’d expect) but never sound cheesy – there’s an air of malevolence about the whole album, and you can’t helped but get sucked into it. The production may be poor, but that only helps to give it more power and aggression, and there is a surprising amount of melody in some parts of the songs (the intros in particular). The album starts off with “Evil has no Boundaries”, a song kicking off with a wailing shriek from Araya – there’s no subtlety here; you’re getting sucked down into Hell from the first second. Song number two is “The Antichrist” and it contains perhaps the best solo on the entire album. While this solo sounds fairly simple, it has raw power and you can’t help but headbang along. “Die by the Sword” and “Fight ‘till Death” are more of the same with high quality lyrics, relentless guitars and rhythmic, pounding drumming. “Metal Storm/Face the Slayer” has a brilliant into, almost doom-like, and the drumming really stands out here and “Black Magic” (the next song) feels much the same. “Tormentor” has a slow intro but some truly awesome lyrics as the “Tormentor” is after you, and he won’t be happy until he’s found you. In an album full of quality tracks, this one still manages to stand out. “The Final Command” blows in and out very quickly and sets up the next song, “Crionics”. “Crionics” focuses on cryogenic freezing of humans and it’s an interesting song in regards to subject matter, something very different from the rest of the album. Finally, the title track doesn’t really stand out musically, but it’s a quality song all the same and has a great intro. It’s melodic, it’s raw, it’s powerful, it’s intense, it’s loud… it’s Slayer’s debut album and it’s a classic. 100% rating

Crikey, I haven't listened to Slayer in years. I always preferred Sepultura, but Raining Blood, from the Reign in Blood album was an awesome track. *briefly considers putting it on right now...* *takes pity on co-workers* *makes mental note to listen again when I get home* |

Well, I play drums for a metal band, but it's really more of the classic tracks that we've been covering. You know, things like "Paranoid", and "For Whom The Bell Tolls", and we're even looking to add "Enter Sandman" to that list. However, we're working on original tunes that border on alt rock and classic metal. Our MySpace lists us as Experimental/Alternative/Metal, which, I guess if you take away the slashes, that's our genre: Experimental Alt Metal. |

Do you ever play any of the really drum-heavy stuff like early Machine Head? With your own work, what bands would you say you're most similar too? Have you got any recordings/videos on the web? |

Yeah, here's our MySpace link. myspace.com/thosekidsfrombristol We only have one instrumental piece up there, now, though. And, I'm actually playing bass, and someone else played drums. |

We're trying. But first, we need to find a bassist, then get some studio time (If I have to, I could play bass for the recordings, but that means more work on my part). Hopefully, we'll have more stuff to show in due time. |

21-100 I've never really got into the older metal. Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin were not bad but I never got into Motorhead. Most of the metal I listen to is late 80s and 90s. |
