The Franks, after whom France was named, were actually a Germanic people. Their name is actually a kind of weapon (a kind of throwing stick), the Saxons are named after a weapon too, a "seax", which was a large knife. However, the Franks eventually became part of Rome. |

There's only French Guinea isn't, and that's because it's legally recognised as part of France... Most of South America is actually socialist. Chile recently elected a socialist (and its first woman) into office...I hear she's not too popular in the most right-wing country in South America, however. Brazil is improving its economy by cutting up the amazon to use for bio-fuels...save the world by destroying its lungs...yair...that makes sense. Argentina is a good country. Someone said to me, "Argentina's President is their equivalent to Thatcher - she's bringing change for the better whether they want it or not!" Argentina's president is hell of a lot better looking than Thatcher ever was though

i think that the brazilians have right to deforest some of their forests, but keep some. I also meant "independant" in economic and energy inedpendant. |

Well that's not really true because most economies of South America have now moved to being more controlled by the government, Bolivia being the prime example. There's only really Argentina made any significant moves to liberalise their economy. Chile's, and to some extent Brazil's, has always been pretty much free market orientated. Also, they're not just Brazil's forests, they're everyones'! We all suffer if those forests go and it's not just a little bit going - an area the size of Belgium disappears every year. |

Well sometimes countries need to do things like that in order to advance to a level where they will be able to more or less will be able to have restricted areas in the forests. If they stop now, then it'd shatter em. Just like how the USA mined for gold, the brazilians are deforesting for their economy, and someday(soon) they will have the power to have protected forests, i think. Its like if the USA wanted to mine gold in the rockies, but other countries didn't want it to. That's just not right. It's like someone drinking pepsi and another guy forcing him to not drink it. I think the country could use american and international help in order to quicken the protection process, but for what they can't protect, they should replant, and cut for growth, and maybe someday, their forest will have re-grown for the most part. |

The Amazon took millions of years to get to it's current size, it's foolish to think they can "re-plant" it. As for protected zones - it makes no difference. Most of Brazil's loggers are doing it illegally anyway. As for the rockies - they're not particularly important to the entire world, unlike the Amazon rainforest which is the lungs of the world. As it stands, Brazil could explore for oil off their coasts, however, they won't do that. Also their bio-fuels market is the largest in the world and it brings in enough money as it is. The problem in Brazil, like all other countries, is once a poor farmer tastes riches, he wants more. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad these guys are getting themselves out of poverty and not relying on others to do it, but they need to realise the point between sustainability for all and pure greed. |

didn't the british take other countries for their own greed? Also, brazil knows about all the problems, and all, but they are industrializing, when other countries were industrializing we did bad things too. We polluted and harvested horribly to much, and some species went into extinction, but in order to advance, some eggs much be cracked. I think it's hipocritical when a nation tells another less industrialized one to not industrialize, when they themselves had to industrialize. There are illegal activities everywhere niongor, the amazon is an important rainforest, but so is the congo, and many others in asia. We need plants, but sometimes some must be cut down in order to advance. We don't even understand our environment in the least bit right now. We need to study the rainforests more, while preserving some(with, if necissary) with brute force. We need to advance, but we need to remember the gaia hypothesis, and treat earth better, the earth was made to accomodate more than 3 billion at the most, but it's gone better than that, and it needs more maintenance, than a car! We need to be more tribalist sometimes, but other times we need to be industrious, and scientific. We need to advance, while keeping to our homeplanet. I believe(personally) 100% in the gaia hypothesis, and it's a very believeable one too, but just because of that, we need the earth, not only for life, but I think it would be horrible to have to colonize other planets and moons out of greed, but rather out of advancement, and to help space get more fun and funtional. I think that brazil will be the next superpower, if it does a better job with it's resources and government, argentina is another good bet, i think south america in the next decade or so will become superpowerful, well only in argentina and brazil. I think that China is already a superpower as is india(even though it's not nearly as clean as china is), and I think the EU is close to superpower strength, and russia, will NEVER be a superpower again. If it does become one, then it will be too much stress. That's what i think, and niongor, I know your probably going to quote this and scream your a%% off, but these are my ideas, and i also respect yours with upmost honor and dignity, i love the british, but all countries have a dark and hidious side. |

Now, for a more somber mood, the United States will lose its healtcare system completely, in 2045, it will probably be divided into diffrent areas for diffrent countrys depending on much the USA owes them. I predict that it will be familiar with the african land grab, only not completely imperialist. However if the government backs out of the economy COMPLETELY and let companies grow, die and be made, then the economy will heal itself in some manner, when one biggie falls down, then more small ones will grow to take their place but will be smarter with their money and make more than them. However the leaders of the USA seem to want to end our country. Japan with their deppression, they had money, same with america in the 1900's, but right now, we have nothing. All of our money is owed to some other country. I think that many areas of the USA would unite and re-form the country, waging war against many big country's while some other country's would not really care to give up land, like europe probably would. I think that it would envelop into a world world 3 scenario, with all country's involved, promising, no nukes. It would be similiar to world war 2 and 1 with many a good person dying, but capitalism works best under pressure(without people thinking their economy is bad, when its not really too bad) and so the united states of america would prevail. The USA would probably team up with: Britian, Ireland, Portugal, Some autonomous areas of Spain(now they are countrys), France(although one bomb and they'd surrender(jk lol)), Germany, Poland, (possibly)China(nationalist or commie, depends), ukriane, iraq, israel, egypt, South Korea, India(if we aren't already allied with china(commie) and vice versa), and many others, now for more epic things.... in 2012, the maya, scientists, nostradamus, and the bible code all predict that BAD HORRIBLE EVIL WRONG things are gonna go down this year, nostradamus predicted that world war 3 will start on 2009(maybe later i think), and the maya predicted that bad things will happen in 2012, really bad things. The bible code predicts that a spacial body will either hit, or be destroyed near, or on earth. The bible code isn't fatalist, though, it is multichoice(cool, i know) and so our fate is as of now uncertain. New gov: Protectorate, aka puppet. |
