I actually watched Spider-Man 3 the other night. I'm not a real action hero movie fan, but it was all that was on so I watched it and liked it. A few days ago I watched Spider-Man 2 and now I need to catch the first one. I know I'm all half assed backwards but meh. I've never seen any of the Batman movies either but I have The Dark Knight playing now.

Since I know you are a fan of the original, I'd say either avoid the theater or tank up before you go. It's pretty lame, even with Kathy Bates, John Cleese and Jennifer Connelly. Interestingly enough, Keanu Reeves is perfectly typecast and gives a great stilted, other-wordly performance as "Klatu." I was just going to ask about you and that whole storm thing. Good to see you again! |

After a fight with two different DVD players and a purchase of a new one I finially was able to watch The Dark Knight. That's the best you will get from me since I'm not really a super hero movie fan. Actually I liked the Spider-Man movies better. |

I preferred the Dark Knight to any of the Spider Man movies just because it *didn't* feel like a superhero movie--yeah, I love insane powers and high action as much as the next guy, but when you really make me *feel* in a movie, you've accomplished something. In Spider Man 3 I "felt" irritation at the emo jerk that Pete became under the influence of the symbiote, but not much emotional attachment overall. |

![]() Wow - what a great film! And by great, I don't mean feel-good ending with characters that brighten our day. Powerful and raw. Takes place in South Africa (wondering if Nio has seen it) in the slums and the streets of rich neighborhoods. The story of a young gangster who makes one bad decision after another until he is faced with the full force of the consequences of his actions. Not jail, but the faces of those he's harmed. It was disturbing (although not as bad as Requiem for a Dream, which gave me nightmares) Definitely a movie that leaves people talking and feeling not quite right. The soundtrack is awesome, too. (I guess it's just the mama bear in me, but Tsotsi was NOT redeemable. ) |

A few days ago, I went to the movies and saw "Bedtime Stories" with Adam Sandler. The movie was mostly geared towards kids and had a few funny parts. However, the plot seemed to be sorely underdeveloped, there wasn't much substance to the characters, and everything seemed so cliche. So I'll give it a 3/10. |

"Inkheart" Beautiful movie with lots of great characters and a fabulous premise - people can read characters in and out of books. Andy Sarkis (of Gollum fame) makes a perfect villain, and who can resist a ferret with tiny little horns as a hero? I always love me some Paul Bettany, so it should have been a no brainer 5 thumbs. Too bad the process of reading things in and out of books was never really consistent because it made the plot weak. ================================== "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" Delicious and dark vampire vs. werewolf story. Not overly fond of Michael Sheen as Lucian, but Bill Nighy is the creepiest actor still living. *shudder* Great face-ripping werewolf action and a brief Goth Sexy Party make this pretty dang good. RAWR to Rhonna Mitra in wet hair and chainmail. I hope there is another prequel to the series that takes us from the end of this movie to the original story. =================================== "Frost/Nixon" Michael Sheen is much better as David Frost, the once King of British TV Fluff. Both he and Frank Langella (as Richard Nixon) bring powerful performances in a documentary-style fictional movie of the 1977 interviews between the two. Frost wants credibility and Nixon wants redemption, and only one of them gets to win this face-off. Even if you know what happens IRL, you still want to find out what happens in the movie. My favorite for Oscars -best actor (Langella) and best screenplay.

Changeling Probably Angelina's best effort yet but some of the other acting was absolutely terrible. In particular, the police captain. Parts of the movie were particularly disturbing and I imagine any parent will feel the same way. In any event, I got into it so it must have been a decent flick overall. |

Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead Absolutely disgusting. The only redeeming value I could find was the cameo appearance of Ron Jeremy. Those of you that love puns, innuendos, blood guts and nudity, this is a must see. |

Maybe this deserves its own thread, but Watchmen is absolutely the closest you can get to X-rated without going over the line. Full frontal nudity, a fairly graphic rape scene and of course, very bloody and painful physical violence. It was even more graphic than the "graphic" novel itself! (I still never got why "Frost/Nixon" was rated R - it had maybe 3 curse words in it?) The novels have an innocence of Film Noir the movie totally smashes. If you imagined all kinds of things while reading the novels, the filmmakers read your minds and shove it in your face during the movie. But... it is 3 solid hours of beautiful and gripping movie-making. It stays true to the novels pretty closely, and the effects... WOW. This is the movie they said couldn't be made. The soundtrack is GREAT. 1/2

I'm watching a documentary scripted around a football match, would you believe it... I haven't finished it but it is indeed a very artistic film, one to find if you like blurring camera shots. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zidane:_A_21st_Century_Portrait |

The Watchmen, good movie...go see it. The one problem that i had was that the ending was too optamistic for me, unlike the graphic novel. Oh, red the graphic novel...better then movie like most books are |

I just came back from watching X-Men Origins: Wolverine - a good film, what would be expected from the trilogy, though my friends say that it is not accurate to Marvel (but what is nowadays? )I give it 7/10. Might see Star Trek when it comes out on Thursday. |

I'll definitely go see Star Trek. Wolverine has always been my favorite, and even though most of my geek friends (comics and movies) do not like Hugh Jackman, I love him in the role. I'll probably wait until it goes to the cheap theater before I see it, though, because I'm broke-like. |
