He Was a Quiet Man (2007)

Christian Slater is wonderful as the "hero" of this dark, funny and engaging story. The notes call it a combo of Office Space and Taxi Driver - and yes it is.

I rented Charlie Wilson's War today. It was an awesome show and definitely worth renting. Philip Seymour Hoffman is amazing in it. Julia Roberts wasn't too great though. Her Texas accent was terrible.

"21" is based on the true story of the MIT Blackjack Team, who developed a system of counting cards in blackjack and taking that system to Vegas to earn craploads of money.

If you're a card nut like me (although my chosen game is Texas Hold-em), this movie is definitely for you--and plenty of humor and drama in the mix keeps you interested. The central character is played by Jim Sturgess, but the supporting characters played by veteran actors Kevin Spacey and Laurence Fishburne steal the show.

Definitely a thumbs up from this reviewer.

I think I heard of the story.

I've been staying up well past my bedtime watching the European Poker Tour - I'll see if I can find 21 somewhere :B)

I don't think I have seen a turn-based, I used to play for online credit (i.e. not gambling) on PokerStars but haven't been there recently; I think one of us could host a table and let other Canada people on :)

Yahoo has rooms for that game. Can be closed and invite only. Whoever wanted to play would have to be on at a given time.

Blackjack is an awesome game to play at the casino if you're with a couple of buddies. I find at the poker tables someone always gets annoyed with us if we talk or joke around, but at the Blackjack tables nobody cares.

Harold and Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay
Very funny (especially the scenes with Neil Patrick Harris) but not as funny as the original. The Harold character is really, really whiny in this one while the other guy seems to get more laid back as it goes on, so that's kind of annoying after a while. The best parts are what you hear background characters saying during some of the scenes.

I saw it once--it was pretty good but not as good as 21. Worth seeing at least once but I don't have the desire to watch it again.

Phone Booth

Very, very good. Spectacular performances by Colin Farrell and Kiefer Sutherland. And Forest Whitaker too. Not brimming with action, but that just makes it feel more real. Colin's confession scene was heartbreaking and believable. Kiefer's voice work was chilling, I thought he was using voice masking until I realized that was his real voice.

Idiocracy

In my opinion, the above is actually a disease and you contract it by watching the movie. Blech.

Its probably a bit late, but I need to do it anyway

Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed

This documentary with Ben Stein was possibly the worst movie I have ever seen. It was supposed to be a strong argument about the teaching of Creationism and Intelligent Design, as an alternative to Evolution. Strong Argument? No, Definitely Not. The majority of this 1 hour 30 minute film was spent showing videos of the Berlin Wall being built, and then torn down, and Scenes of Nazi Death Camps. He spent the rest of the time comparing the rejection of Intelligent Design to be taught in schools to the Berlin Wall, and it needs to be torn down so that civilization can thrive. He claims that the acceptance of Evolution and Darwinism lead to the rise of Nazism and Communism, with no facts to back him up other than the tern "Social Darwinism"

Overall, I give this movie a 1/5 rating (unless I can go any lower). The only people that would enjoy this movie are religious (and I mean REALLY religious) nuts, who completely ignore the facts science has placed down. I don't know if this movie is still in theaters, but if it is, DON'T SEE IT!
