![]() The Switch 4/5 Didn't expect this movie to be that good, but I ended up really liking it. It actually has some heart, and isn't just a cheap, crappy rom-com (like earlier this year's When In Rome. I couldn't stand that one). Jason Bateman does a good job portraying his loser character Wally, his friend/boss Jeff Goldblum is funny (in his unique, quirky way), and the kid is kinda cute I guess. I related to Wally a lot, in particular his love/longing for Cassie. I recognized in myself many of the same character traits he has, and I was very moved by what he said about small lives and denial. Maybe that's why I liked The Switch so much, because I feel like this guy is me in so many ways and see a kindred spirit.

![]() Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol 7/10 Fairly good. Had several welcome funny moments. Actually liked Tom Cruise in this, although he gets hit by a car and walks away perfectly fine one or two too many times. Enjoyed the double near death experience/girl power moment on the Burj when Tom has to make a risky maneuver to get back into the tower, as well as Simon Pegg's brief moment of badassness near the end. Plot is simple but requires a slightly above average amount of suspension of disbelief. And Paula Patton is really hot. ![]() ![]() Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows 9.9/10 (AWESOME!) When the movie ended, a teenager in the row in front of me got up and went "Right on!". Superb plot, acting, direction, and writing. Light funny moments, both subtle and laugh out loud. Dark tragic moments, both raw and emotional, as well as understated and nuanced. Some of the best scenes are not ones of explosive adrenaline-pumping action, but rather, the verbal sparring and mental chess (literal and figurative) between Holmes and Moriarty. The stakes are raised, no one is safe, and it all culminates in an inevitable, final confrontation at the falls of Reichenbach. [size0](Yep, I watched them both today, back to back.) |

![]() The Help 8/10 This movie is a lovely film. Great acting all around but some of the standouts are Octavia Spencer (Minny) who's sassy nature makes you laugh and Viola Davis (Abilene) who acts with subtle precision, nailing in every emotional note. Additionally, the movie has a perfect balance of drama and humor; giving you moments where you'll be laughing hysterically and moments where you'll be sobbing into a Kleenex. Is it a groundbreaking movie that hasn't been done before? No. It's a civil rights movie but one that is done very well. Carnage 7/10* From what I could tell this was a fantastic movie with a quirky plot and quite acting all around. I'm posting to say that I recommend you seeing it. I'm ALSO posting about my story. I love Jodie Foster. So I traveled to the movie theater downtown (I like in the burbs) to see this. It crapped out halfway through and I couldn't see the remainder of it...And I couldn't stay for the next showing. It's safe to say I won't head back downtown so I won't see this movie for a while. It's good (from what I saw) so if it's in your area, definitely go and see it

![]() Prometheus 8/10 Alright, but not spectacular. Pretty cinematography, great cast (particularly Michael Fassbender as the android David), but I felt it left a lot of questions unanswered. |

Well, I saw The Amazing Spiderman last night and it very much lived up to its name. I've never been a particular fan of Spiderman. I'm very much more a Batman-man (?) myself (I literally nearly jizzed at the Dark Knight Rises trailer). That said, with Andrew Garfield as Spiderman, I have very much been converted to a fan. He's great as the socially awkward Peter Parker and the genuine chemistry between he and Emma Stone just pours out of the screen. Garfield carries off Parker's transition to Spiderman as per the comics: embracing the change without questioning it and falling into the role almost naturally. It's a far cry from the original film with the unbearable Toby Maguire. Garfield's geeky, slim-cut Spiderman and "fijity" acting style make for a clear (and favourable) distinction to Maguire's muscle-bound Spiderman and arrogant acting style. Unlike Maguire, Garfield is genuine to the role and accepts that Spiderman needs to wear a mask. Rhys Ifans is an excellent antagonist. Throughout the film he makes you feel a little uneasy and it carries on throughout his time on screen. Does he have something to hide? Something deeper than the obvious? Throw in Martin Sheen and Sally Fields as supporting roles (yes supporting roles) and you have an excellent cast and a very easy flow amongst the characters. My final piece of advice: sit still while the credits role. It's now done thing to have hidden extras and this film is no exception. My rating: 4/5 |

Thats funny Storm - I saw same last night. Enjoyed but liked The Avengers better, can't recall why 'cos thats how long movies stay clear in my head - unless they really move me in some way. But I enjoy the fun in movies like these lots. |

The Avengers was great! Although I think every Hulk movie (ever!) completely sucked some A, the Hulk in Avengers was funny. Great film though. Not sure if I think Spiderman or Avengers were better, I just know neither of them will ever compare to Batman! I can't tell you how much of a HUGE Batman fan I am! (Well, the films anyway. Never really got into the comics.)

The Dark Knight Rises 7/10 - good, not great. The good: A technical and technological marvel. The effects were good, the acting was top-notch, The story was interesting, action scenes were engaging. Catwoman was done beautifully and it was an interesting re-imagining of Bane. The bad: Pacing was excruciating, it was a two and a half hour movie and felt like it. Some dialogue was difficult to hear, either from the background music or the combination of Bane's mask and accent. Didn't feel like a "Batman" movie, as you hardly saw the Dark Knight, and for most of the movie the protagonist feels like someone completely different. Overall: Worth seeing, but don't get your hopes too high. |
