Before I begin, I read Lance's interesting topic, FF8 (Feeling Nostalgic), and thought we could make this an ongoing thing.

I grew up with a lot of video games as a kid, I had a Sega Genesis for a short while, and before my addiction spanned out to the X Box, I played a lot of PSx and Gameboy Advanced (mostly Megaman Battle Network games). This was before I joined the honor roll in middle school and I had a dangerous addiction towards video games, and naturally, I ended up becoming very picky about the games I played. This addiction slowly died out as I began learning programming, however that drive was inspired by my love for video games anyway.

I had attended my first sleep over when I was 9, I had recently gotten the X Box as a Christmas present but was a little short on games. I started off with Drake of the 99 Dragons, which wasn't bad, just too difficult for a fourth grader. The friend I was sleeping over at, had a TON of video games for his X Box, Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games mostly, which were very entertaining titles for me on the PSx. Since it was nearing my birthday, I began craving a new game, and my friend told me about "Sonic Heroes". As my mom came to pick me up from Staten Island, I told her I wanted Sonic Heroes for my birthday, but she came back with the wrong game, "Sonic Mega Collection Plus". I was frustrated and did nothing but pout during the ride back home. I kept the box closed so that we could exchange it the next day, but sadly, they were all sold out of Sonic Heroes, and so I dealt with what I got. When you run the game, you're hit with this amazing music switching between Sonic, Tails and Knuckles and showing off gameplay of all the past Sonic the Hedgehog games. There had to be more than 10 old SEGA games on this thing. I couldn't appreciate something like this at that age, but I played it anyway. Although most of my play through of the game felt forced, mainly because it was still a new game for me, I felt like I started to really fall for old style games like that. I didn't really grow up with a SEGA Genesis like most people did, my first official video game was Spider Man The Movie for PSx, so my expectations sort of started off like that.

Later that year, I began growing tired of the X Box and the games that came out, so I decided to try out something new. I had a Gameboy Advance from back when I was in 1st grade, but I only had 1 game for it, "Cubix Racing Robots", and it wasn't even for the Gameboy Advance! My mom had accidentally gotten a Gameboy Color game, but luckily the GBA was backwards compatible. I picked up the Gameboy Advance and started flicking the power on and off until I got bored, until a few hours later I was looking through my brother's sock drawer to see if my mom left any Legos, and I found a GBA game, "Megaman Battle Network 3". I didn't even bother questioning where this game came from, I just threw it in there and started playing, and I got HOOKED. I was more addicted to video games than I ever was before, and the amount of hours I had to have spent on this game was INSANE. After getting drawn into the story by beating the first boss, "Flashman", I began to fall in love with how challenging the game is. I just couldn't defeat the second boss, "Beastman". I was even playing this game when my parents took us out on errands, and at one point, I even put the game down and wondered how I got in the car in the first place. However, the most devastating day was when I experienced "rusty ruin" for the first time in my life. For those of you who aren't familiar with what rusty ruin is, for GBA games, it's when the game loses the save data entirely, or gets corrupted. This happened while I was in the car and my mom went out to buy furniture, I was struggling on Beastman for the longest time, but the worst part was, the GBA was on low battery. Every time the GBA shut off, I would just turn it back on and tried to beat him before it shut down again. After a few times, I lost my save file. Not seeing "CONTINUE" in the title screen was a freak out moment for me. I had even stopped playing for a few days. After I got bored again, I picked it back up and decided to start over, still couldn't beat Beastman.

I hated the outdoors a lot, hated playing outside or doing physical activity, but my mom would usually make me go to the park when it was hot outside. I brought my Gameboy with me, and to my surprise, the local kids did too! And to an even bigger surprise, they all had Megaman Battle Network 3 (took me a while to realize). They all linked up using that GBA wire and PvP'd till it turned dark. This was such a cool thing for me, because now it took the competition into real life for me. The game had a system called "NaviCust" in which you can customize your net navi using specific parts and rules, however, the rules were a bit complicated for elementary school students to really understand, so we actually payed the older kids to fix the NaviCust for us, it was kind of cool if you think about it, and I recall it being a dollar per repair. Overtime, sadly, this did not last. As the middle school students began dropping Megaman for higher graphic games, so did my friends. I continued playing up until the 6th and last installment to the series, and then dropped the GBA system altogether.

In 6th grade, I started using my computer more often than I used to. From about 10 minutes a day to 6 - 9 hours a day. I was playing Gaia Online since 4th grade, but I began taking it seriously again. I got addicted to it, which is silly if you think about it, but I think I got too attached to the relationships I developed on that game, even the "cyber intimate" ones, or whatever an 11 year old considers intimate. After a while, my classmates and I played Platform Racing 2 for a short while before moving onto my first large scale MMO, "Fiesta Online". I even rushed my friend out of my house when he was visiting so I can play it in peace. After playing it for about a week, I got my cousins to try it out, and having them compete with me made it even more exciting. What really got my interested in the whole "Game Design" concept though, was when I met my first GM, "GM Dakkon". He logged on with all his OP stats and epic equipment, and just everyone crowding this guy sparked something in me, I wanted to become that. However, after reaching level 60 1 year later, the game became too challenging and grindy, so I slowly quit. Before graduating middle school, me and 2 other friends invested a lot of time dreaming and discussing about what it was like to become a GM in a game, and never actually making one, as it was such a difficult process for us at the time, although I spent that entire summer learning and slowly led up to who I am today.

Here is a list of all MMOs I've played (that I can remember):
Gaia Online
Fiesta Online
Maple Story
Asda Story
GunZ
S4 League
Luna Online/Luna Plus
TERA Online
DCUO
Aion
Rumble Fighter
Lost Saga
PokeMMO (I have an OP Fearow) (I don't really like Pokemon either)
Aura Kingdom (I played this game religiously for 2 months straight)
and various other indie games
.

Man, this sounds just like me. As a child I never spent countless hours on a game console unless I was playing with my friends or cousins. When I started playing MMO's it became a different story. This is the stage where I ate at the computer, snacked at the computer, watched tv from the computer (it was behind me) etc. Consequently I'd eventually gain some pounds, had a been a couple inches shorter in elementary-middle school, I would've been classified as a bowling ball.

Also, I have had similar relationships on MMO's (Nostale GameNGame version). It's amazing how some of these people you've never met before can become your best friends. At the time you'd talk to them all day, do quest w/ them, and outside of the game you'd probably be messaging them (Via Messenger/Yahoo Messenger when it was popular). Even in NFF, we all have a history with somebody on here that we'll never forget, and it's weird thinking that you'll most likely never see them in person if you haven't already.

As for game appreciation, I really enjoy n64 and playstation/ps1 graphics. Even if they aren't developed as well as the current ones. This is just my mind speaking, but for the ones who do appreciate the older graphics, I think it's in fact because the graphics aren't as good. Nowadays you can't tell the difference between a video game and real life, every game looks like a FMV (May have stretched that). If you don't believe me, look at Super Mario 64 or Sonic for the Genesis. Stare at some of the backgrounds, and details. Every time I do say to myself "Wow, they were able to put so much detail into an aspect of the game people don't even notice"

MMO/RPG's Ive Played:

Runescape
Rumble Fighter
Maple Story
Gunz (was so boss at that)
Nostale (GameNGame, UK, and Global)

Classics:
Sonic(Genesis)
Final Fantasy 7&8 (Playstation/Ps1)
Megaman Battle Network 3 (GBA)
Megaman Legends (Playstation/PS1)
Toy Story 2 (Playstation/PS1)
Powerstone (Dreamcast)
Street Fighter 3rd strike (Dreamcast, available in PSN, still hard)
Pokémon (GB-GBA)
Ball Breakers (Playstation/PS1)
Tekken(Playstation/PS1)
Fighting Force (Playstation/PS1)
Mighty Morphing Power Rangers (Playtstation/PS1)

And of course the Nintendo games such as Zelda, Smash bros, Marios.
+Gauntlet Legends
+Gex
+Diddy Kong Racing
+Tony Hawks Pro-Skater
+Donkey Kong
+Resident Evil
+Blast Corps
+And of course the legendary Super Smash Bros

Funny Story about Megaman Legends: I went into a game store that sold classic games and consoles, and I saw Megaman Legends priced at $50+ dollars lol. I still have the hard copy.

You can't make a long topic about nostalgia and end with "(I don't really like Pokemon either)." That's not how the world works.

I played Fiesta Online on both closed betas. It was one of the most fun MMOs I've played but for some reason once I came out it wasn't the same so I stopped playing it. Maybe it was because the community was better since it was small? Most players knew about each other. I was pretty high leveled, at the end of the closed beta Admins came to the main town and spawned a huge Dragon that everybody took part in the defeating. It was awesome.

My favorite MMOs were Runescape, Fiesta Online (Closed Beta) and Fantasy Earth Zero. Won't even list all the MMOs i've played since it's a shitload.

I was gonna make another topic, but I figured it was unnecessary. As I was trying to take a nap earlier, I realized that console games are the same as others, just with different features.

MMORPG's are Generic: The Diablo series, XIV a relm reborn, and there was another game I can't think of. All the same Medieval game.

FPS are all the same. COD, Halo, battlefield.

Fighting Games. Street fighter, MVC3, Blaze Blue which is pretty awesome All the same, just with different characters with different moves

Free Roams aren't always the same, but they are at the same time.

Games like Metal Gear Solid, Hitman, Dynasty warriors, and from the looks of it FFXV which is an action RPG, is what we need. Games where you just...play!

Saying CoD is the same as Halo is like saying Hitman is like any Tenchu, Dynasty Warriors is like any Devil May Cry and Metal Gear Solid is like any Splinter Cell.

You mean you see similarities in games of the same genre? What a groundbreaking revelation.

I haven't played any of the alternate games you've listed. Regardless, where is the originality in games?

I could never play Xenogears... That game was extremely rare to get in Puerto Rico. I played Shenmue on the dreamcast though, that game was awesome. Everything about it was so different from the games of that time. I played it so much and the Sonic Adventure games until one day my dreamcast died : C.

You want originality, yet you listed Dynasty Warriors as a game to play and said CoD, Halo and BF are the same.
