So on my Adderall trip this morning, I decided to revisit my old tattoo designs, using the Gate of Time from Zelda Skyward Sword. The quality was shit to say the least. So I spent about 3 hours reinking the entire image in a high resolution (about 5 dpi), then I drew the gear around the main piece and did the coloring more carefully in my high resolution image, then sized it down to sharpen the image. Using a reference picture, I drew the two side gears in photoshop, and all the symbols thanks to the trusty pen tool. I think I'm ready to have it quoted now.. But before I show you the image, let me show you the first two tattoo designs that I had from quite a while ago. Original one Spoiler: click to toggle Probably better off as a back tattoo. Second one Spoiler: click to toggle Closer. Quality is still shit though, because its just a blown up image where I paint bucket'd the colors in there. Final one with the gears finally drawn in, and entire image reinked. Spoiler: click to toggle I've heard people say THIS one should be a back tattoo, but I disagree. The main gear goes on my shoulder, with the other two gears resting on the front and back of my shoulder, and stretching onto my chest and back respectively. The Hylian text quote stretches down the side of my arm, just far enough so its still covered by my t-shirts. Back version would have to be MUCH larger and much more costly, and I think if I ever get a back tattoo, it'll be something different entirely. Plus I like the idea of my upper arm being covered in text, because the triceps of my arm already has my last name tattooed on it. |

Third one looks awesome, and though the first one isn't entirely my thing it's quite interesting as well |

It's different, which I like to see in tattoos. I would also say it would make a better back tattoo because I don't see the two gears really connecting to the main one. If it does and people get that, then I'd also say an arm is better because of the text. You can completely ignore my advice, but a change I would do for it by looking at it is remove the color for the symbols in the outer ring of the main gear. It would match the other two gears if they don't have white and are clear with the design. I just find the color to be misplaced because it's a bit dark. Regardless, it looks like a cool thing to have, especially for a gamer. |

Tbh, I prefer the first one, the other 2 are good, but they are just way to large and have too many stuff. |

This was actually my reference picture. ![]() So thats why I used the colors I did. I've been considering another color scheme, actually two, but I'll get to those some other day. I'm in no rush to get it either. And the first one is extremely overused, and more appropriate for a chest or back tattoo. |

My thoughts exactly.. |
| Trying to learn a bit of Moonrunes... I've decided that 赤眼付 is now the official spelling for Akametsuki. Basically means "Red Eyes", though, it kinda also means "Expression of the eyes" | |

...that's still low considering "high DPI" is usually around 300 (and that's on the low end). |

So I had decided that my tattoo wasn't good enough to get done.. I wanted it to be more symbolic and esoteric than some vague Zelda references, and it didn't feel "full" enough. So I gave it a couple hours, and some serious thought. Spoiler: click to toggle The two words I saved from the original text and placed on the sword translate to, "Protect Memories". That and they're on the Master Sword (symbolizing the old), wrapped/protected by the Double Helix Sword (symbolizing the new). Connected and stemming from the Gate of Time showing that we always have access to the past via the memories we forge. I kept the two gears in there to show that time is always flowing forward however. The rest of the Gate of Time symbols were to keep the image full and hold true to the Zelda Lore. Circuit Board pattern ties everything together, showing everything is connected, Past, Present and Future. Edited by Argon, Apr 22 2014, 08:14 PM.
