This show is ridiculous. And not in the Gurren Lagann way. Still not sure if I like this show or not.

I'm kind of the same way. I've been told that it gets better so I guess I'll keep watching it.

More often than not, Gurren Lagann wasn't ridiculous in a good way. ._.

Bokurano is good because of its serious and plodding pace. Like Monster, it has a deliberate pace that lends well to a dramatic sense.

I get the feeling that this is the kind of show that I'm not super into, but that I'll have to watch to the end so I can find out what happens.

I think it's pretty interesting so far, just because it's not totally clear what direction it's going in (at least as far as I can tell). It doesn't seem like the characters are learning anything from their Zearth experience because they die immediately afterward, and all they're doing by fighting off the robots is destroying more of the city.

Either it's some crazy matrix-simulation thing, or just a really morbid anime.

I'm starting to get into it a little more. The first couple of episodes were kinda boring, what with Otacon (I can't remember the guy's name and he looks way too much like him) making this some sort of odd mech show.

But then it started to introduce a little more psychology into the mix and is now touching into a lot of subtexts. Do we keep piloting this robot that kills one of us each time? Do we just keep denying our dead friends? Etc. Etc. I don't know if it's going to explore one or two of those subtexts and have that become more of the main plot or just keep them as things to think about in between battles.

Or maybe I'm over thinking it a little and it turns out that Otacon is a morbid dick...

Yeah, but is the show going to be just [insert name]'s story, then [insert name] is chosen as pilot, then [insert name] dies? Formulaic and depressing.

Kokopelli
Fucking retarded name. Some 2ch nonsense right there or something.

Anyway, horrifically sad and depressing shows work fine for me. Plodding psuedo-mecha show where the pilot always mysteriously dies after the monster is defeated - sounds great. Can't help but think though that there is some great secret that is supposed to be slowly revealed thats going to really blow us away. I hope.

I take slight issue with, though, that they killed off that jerk kid who took the fake glasses. As a character, I really liked him. I mean, is that how the show is going to go? Take sterotypical children, invest some time to flesh them out, and then kill them as if we weren't lead to believe that they were central to the plot? -.-

It is a tad formulaic. However, that didn't stop me (and hopefully won't stop any of you) from getting attached to some characters. Some have bigger personal issues than others but in their bleak situation I became super invested in almost all of their stories. I started thinking about how I would handle being in any of their places and imagined what would be going through my head. A lot of deep issues to think about with this show, which you get sometimes from other shows, but not quite as serious as with this.

Also, Kokopelli 4eva! :cactuar

It seems interesting so far, but some of the characters rub me the wrong way. And at times, the casts' characterization seems... off somehow (might just be me).

Anyways, I'm waiting to see if it somehow accidentally derails into the trope "What do you mean, it's not symbolic?" or something in that direction (although it already seems to have down "True Art is Angst" or at least something close).

... I need to stop reading TVTropes...

(Note to self: stop looking at Wiki to get character's names. You're only going to get spoilers.)

I'm with you about the characters. It may be that you get one impression most of the time and it turns out they are something else later. Like the two people we just saw. (No, I'm not getting their names because I know too much about a couple of other parts of the story that we haven't hit yet. Thanks, Wiki! ... ass)

It could be just me but I don't remember thinking about any of this stuff when I was ten. Japanese age numbering strikes again (by "ten" we really mean fifteen).
