Bodvar Jarl

Let's see, think I could write a long essay on the subject of me. I clicked a link on Paradox-boards june 16 in 2006, created a nation and joined TOP within two mins.

Ran around like a newbie for the first week with no clue where to go, probably because people where establishing internal systems. After a week, I got a place to hang out in, the 9th chapter, with Rob O being kind of a mentor to me for the first month, I started to meet and spam with people, and learning the ropes, at this point in time all I ever bothered about was to grow and have fun on our forums.

September 24 is the date where the change came for me, I had recently restarted with a new nation as I decided that oil/lead was too crappy, so I sent out what tech and money I could gather split on three people, and then received a 1million grant for my new nation with much better resources and did a miniature version of rocket-sledding to get me off. Around that time I started to read the big boards and posting a bit here and there, this was during NPO's forum blackout so there was not much happening, mostly the main attractions where M&K (he was amusing) and the merge between Volkleitung and that other alliance, heh. I had this theory that if I could post well made things I could make a name for myself :P

But back to what happened on sep 24, besides basicly being up for 36 hours spamming our forums like hell and annoying the crap out of the parts of the alliance that didn't contribute to the spamming, I managed to piss off Subby, MoFA of FAN at the time, basicly I had a friend, unalligned one, which a member of FAN attacked, I contacted FAN about it, and worded myself rather silly. In hindsigth, I think the only reason I survived "suggesting" that FAN should ban attacking unalligneds in their charter was that TOP was stronger than FAN at the time, and that I had the wits to write an apology: http://z4.invisionfree.com/Paradox_Cyberna...?showtopic=1423, from the time that I was a n00b -_-

You may also notice that daedalus called me Bob there for some reason or another, and because we where spamming the hell out of the place at the time, someone picked up on it and people call me Bob half the time, but it's waned recently as those youngsters in TOP doesn't respect traditions <_<

Now fast forward to october, where I asked Avernite to make me a diplomat and was sent off to VE, made some friends there, spamming is something I have a tendency to engage in etc. Also headed over to IRON on informal spam trip around this time, getting like 2000 posts in about a month or two. Also somewhere in november, I believe, I was elected as the first Councillor of Large as we expanded the amount of government positions, so the following month I was running around doing things here and there, covered a lot of minor diplomatic stuff, pitching in wherever there was something to do. Got the taste for diplomacy and was elected Grand Chancellor (MoFA) in mid-december, a few days after WUT was signed, which was Avernite's doing, I just got to sign the thing. Was away during Christmas so missed all the fun with New Reverie, came back when the matter settled. Got off a wardrill that showed that we needed some target forums, and got them up more or less in time for GW2, GW2 was just glorious, marching straigth into the biggest alliance on the other side, and anarchise them 4 to 1. Did some minor diplomacy here and there, but my time as GC was mostly about WUT and GW2.

Went from GC to become Grandmaster in february, not doing much revolutionary, but the period between GW2 and 3 was pretty much a straigthforward one, reorganising the military based on the experience of the last war. Then GW3 came, and that was just awesome, I never cared much for figthing wars, I'm a diplomat first and foremost, a diplomat that has dabbled across any aspect of CN there is though, but by now I'm pretty much only bothering about the political side of things. In GW3 there is two big events on IRC that I remember fondly, first was regarding ODN's entrance in the war, and bm (was in TOP a t the time) had promptly tossed Akasha into anarchy because he felt like it, and then bragging about it afterwards. ODN was not amused, and I had to sit on IRC and dodge insults from members of their senate wanting to kick him out, running around their words for two hours, and having Saber and Lemeard laughing their asses off in the gov-channel. I owned them completely, glorious, once their stamina run out, Akasha and I sorted the matter between the two of us.

The day after, I got a visit by VL and SG, offering peace to TOP, "not a surrender" as they put it, allthough TOP withdrawing from WUT was one condition. Some of you migth know about it but VL said something like this when I said no:
"It was my understanding that we could deal with you as an independent alliance and not a puppet"

My term as GM ended around the same time as GW3 did. And I decided a change in pace, as I was basicly pretty drained after having been constantly involved in politics for more than five months.

Took a short break from active duty, and then got brought back as a high ranking diplomat, kind of an assistant to the GC, worked on OUT and generally pitching in advise on stuff. Came back as GC in june, got the CEN issue to deal with (splinter group), wrapped up the work with our MDP with IRON that Saber started in the term before me, started up the relations that lead to the signing of the FOK-MDP by my successor, did the final polishment of the Grämlins-MDP on our end, and helped build citadel, allthough most of the initial work was done by Tony.

Ended my term at modgate, going back to being senior diplomat for four months time, also with a three month term as heptagonal (our legislational body), then back into council-work as Grand Legate starting in december (essentially DMoFA in charge of the the diplocorps and whatever needed to be done elsewhere on diplomacy), did some working on black, orange, citadel and reorganized the diplocorps, then left it to my successor in march, being senior diplomat once more.

In April, I was back as Grand Chancellor again, still is, with Umbrella's admission to Citadel and a couple of MDP's to take credit for, as well as revitalising our analysis department on foreign affairs, but all in all, some uneventfull months. The future might have more fireworks of my doing, but I have a strong tendency to be that stable influential guy that is involved in everything but doesnt really stand out in any way.

I dont think so, I believe it was as Councillor at Large, which basicly was "Lend a pair of hands wherever they are needed" kind of role back then, with time, I became the guy that took care of all the small things, rogues, minor incidents etc, and I decided that I could take on more challenges and ran for election of GC, which appealed the most to me, and after my tenure as GM, I was past the point of no return.
