I'm just getting this out of my head for like the tenXillionth time in my life. I HATE PIANO. My parents have been forcing me to take lessons ever since third grade. I HATE IT. I just want to tear it into little pieces, trash it in the ocean, and fish it out so it can be incinerated. The only thing I look forward to in it is QUITTING. That's in only EIGHT MORE YEARS!!! |

Wow. That sucks. It's a simple solution; running away. ..lol jk. Ask them why do I need it? or something like that. BTW, this goes in the serious section. Not spam. |

I was torn by the decision to put in here or the serious section. Oh well. My parents know that I hate it. They just don't admit. Even though it says it all over their faces that I hate what they're doing. They just say, "You'll thank us someday," or,"We know you love it." That's just pretty much the only recognizable blemish in our family. |

If you don't like it, you shouldn't be forced to do it. Try having a serious talk to your parents about it. Tell them you can't see the benefit of taking piano and want to quit. If that doesn't work, then try talking to someone else like a grandparent and get them to stick up for you.
That would be a terrible over reaction and extremely immature |

Apologies VCY, I did not. Still, being forced into something you don't want to do isn't right. And if you hate piano, you won't try your best. Therefore, it is pointless to continue. |

Actually, I wanted to play the keyboard at primary school cause my friend did, I told my mum and next thing she gets a piano teacher who VISITS THE HOUSE! I was stuck with piano for 8 years before I said I hated it, I already didn't practice so I just gave up, my sister followed after and my brother continued, and I can laugh at him for it |

My sister actually plays the piano too. She despises it as well. She had to start in second grade. |

This would be the proper (In my opinion) speech to say: Mom, Dad, you obviously didn't hear me the 10000000 other times I said it. So I brought Alfred of the hearing school to help you. I hate piano lessons. I HATE PIANO LESSONS! They will not help me in life. THEY WILL NOT HELP ME IN LIFE! I don't like it so I won't do well and it's useless. I DON'T LIKE IT SO I WON'T DO WELL AND IT'S USELESS! Thank you, have a good night. THANK YOU, HAVE A GOOD NIGHT! ...Lol...Just Kidding. But seriously, do something like that more seriously. |

I actually did that in almost the same words. Except I didn't say good night. What Kamek said, I ask why I do piano. Mn mom says because she wants me to, and my dad sarcastically says, "Because you LOVE it." I can never get them to be serious. They always try to change the subject when I try to get a serious converstation on piano and how it helps me. |

Piano? eh, not my favorite insrument. Not that exciting to play. If they dont listen to you when you say you dont want to play the piano, why not suggest switching to an intrument that you have interest in playing? if they accept, your still learning the same skills, but youll have more fun. that is, if you WANT to play another instrument. If you dont, then dont waste money suggesting to buy another you hate. |

Why not try the saxafone or clarinet, I've played the clarinet before, I did enjoy it until I got THE, MOST CRAPPIST MUSIC TEACHER IN EXISTANCE EVER, you see, I was ht eonly boy in the group of people playing the clarinet, and boy did I get picked on! She accused my (a boy with a deeper voice) of talking when it was infact a high pitched squealy girl talking She made me write minim (a note type to all you none music players out there) on the board cos I didn't know what one was, may I add, no one else did either, just me, I was made out to be the prat. I had had enough so when she asked me to draw one (more humiliation) on the board, she told me to draw it like a 'lolipop' so thats exactly what I drew, with the cartoon spiral in the middle too. Luckily I got a differnt teacher, she was okay, but then I eventually gave up because my first eva teacher, not the one who made me look like the prat was the best ever, she was really nice to us all and if you played a piece real well you got stickers (yes not exciting now but back then, it was a sign of acivement) So maybe if you got a different teacher, one whos either better or funny, you may just like the piano again |

I agree with with the other instrument idea. I play the trumpet too, and I'm doing because I want to. I'm having a lot more fun with it than piano. Its not the teacher that bugs me, it's the fact my parents know that I'm frustrated. |

Wow, I don't envy your parents. Forcing you to take piano lessons just for the hell of it pretty much. God, don't you just hate that in parents? |

I play the cello, and nobody really forces me to play it. I play a lot of sports and balance playing cello. |

If you already play the trumpet, then I wouldnt know what to recommend you, as its your parents. Maybe you can talk to someone, such as your school guidance counselor, who can contact your parents, and tell them him or her the problem. If you tell it to someone else and they explain the problem, its possibl that they may start listening, and get the fact through their heads. other then that, im out of recommendations. |

Yea I would say a guidance counselor would be best, because then another adult could tell your parents and they will finally understand |

or pick off the weaker of the 2 (basically the follower of the other parent, who agrees with the other no matter what) Talk to that parent individually and try and get them on your side. This could get you out of the piano, even bribe them by saying you will play the trumpet more (in my experience, 2-3 weeks of practicing more will make them forget) Then your off the piano, free as well.....er a guy who don't play the piano! |

hmmmm... Well my mom is just plain strict about piano while my Dad avoids the subject. When I have a serious conversation, he just gives the silent treatment. |

Just refuse to play the piano anymore. Just don't do it. |
