Come at Me, Bro!
It was a sad day, this day. Drake Blackwood the IV was stretched out by the pool that formed at the base of Celle Waterfall, lying on a deck chair he'd shaped from the shadows of the trees nearby as his Aeon blasted Intergalactic. Cancer at 47. What a buzz kill. The spoiled teen sighed and stretched out, staring at the water. He had worn his swim suit (black, because he was in mourning damn it) but the water just seemed too cold, and anyway he needed to work on his tan.

Adam Yauch would approve, he was sure.

Still, if he wasn't gonna swim....

Ten minutes later, Drake settled back in his shadow lilo, keeping near where the cliff face shadowed the water. Turns out, if you made the shape hollow, you'd float! It was easy from there to mold the shape to fit him exactly. He'd even spent the extra time in making a cup holder for his glass of lemonade which he had manged to pull from nowhere, as if he was some sort of cartoon character.

What a ludicrous thought. A cartoon? Pssshh.

"To you that has fallen," he called out dramatically, "I show my sorrow!" With that he poured a little of his lemonade into the water, in respect for the fallen Beastie Boy. And yes, he did think that was a totally appropriate thing to do.

Echoing lyrics of a song coming from the direction of the caverns, opposite of his position at the waterfall. A girl in loosely braided pigtails would emerge into his view, looking down at her Aeon. Her shirt and jeans were a bit dusty, probably from exploring the caverns for a time and carried a bright blue messenger bag with her.

It was a damn shame.

Kanami had decided to just walk it off in the caves, especially since she never went there before. never one for nature, but the caves seemed to be suitable to walk off bad news, playing Bodhisattva Vow for the underworld to hear and know. Good enough a tribute as anything, she supposed. Nothing too melodramatic or silly, just solace and music echoing in the caves, though now it was mostly obscured by the roar of the falls.

"Seau commits suicide, the coolest of the Beastie Boys is dead and yet... Courtney Love is still alive. What a fucking waste." She muttered. How unfair.

Melodramatic and silly... Did somebody say Drake Blackwood?

"Seau commits suicide, the coolest of the Beastie Boys is dead and yet... Courtney Love is still alive. What a fucking waste."

That special sense that only extremely good looking studs developed was tingling. There was a girl around. A cute one. Drake sat up on his shadow lilo and lowered his transition lens glasses to have a good look-see. Score score and double score, it was the sass chick in his year. And she was into Beastie Boys! He had an in, and he had a legitimate reason for why he was nearly naked.

She wasn't gonna know what hit her.

"It's a crying shame," he called, paddling over and leaping onto the shore in one smooth move. "She's only held together by smack and oxycodone anyway." Running a hand through his hair, Drake offered a smirk sad smile of condolence as his hair shone bright in the sun. No Ace around, he'd have to wingman himself. "I'm Drake, by the way."

"It's a crying shame."

Kanami's gaze shifts at the direction of the pool around the falls, a voice speaking to...her? Had to be. There was no one else around here, was there? The girl would turn down her music, looking at the vaguely familiar guy who apparently figured it was a good day to swim. More power to him she supposed.

"She's only held together by smack and oxycodone anyway. I'm Drake, by the way."

To his smile, Kanami would blink at him. Where had she seen this guy? Oh, most likely in class, the girl would barely pay attention to any of the other students. To her, her fellow students were little more than amorphous figures with numbers, subjects and objects.

"Oh, you're that guy..." She mused in some mild recognition, not quite acknowledging his name. "Didn't know there were others that were upset about the news."

"Oh, you're that guy..."

"If by that guy you mean 'that extremely good looking new guy,' then yeah, sure," Drake drawled, one eyebrow raising. That guy, really. Like he was just some guy. Like he wasn't the heir to a multibillion dollar business empire. People were lame. But, she was cute. Clearly, he would have to withhold the urge to set her straight and just find someone less cute and female-ish to be a jerk to straight after. He turned the smile up a few notches.

"Didn't know there were others that were upset about the news."

Drake nodded, the smouldering smile fading slightly to a more thoughtful expression. He'd have put his hands in his pockets, if he was wearing pants. "Yeah, it's a pretty major bummer," he sighed, his head dropping. Then, he slowly looked up from under his lashes. "You wanna shoulder to cry on?"

"If by that guy you mean 'that extremely good looking new guy,' then yeah, sure."

Kanami's expression would be flat and speculative at those words, not sure if serious or not. Everything about his posture said otherwise, there was confidence bleeding from him, but not quite the admirable kind. Naturally, her sharp nature was stirred, for she too exuded her own confidence.

"Heh, I see someone lacks modesty, Blondie thing." She says with a sharp cheerfulness, just to throw him off.

"Yeah, it's a pretty major bummer," he sighed, his head dropping. There could be something genuine there, but she had to observe him a little longer before she was certain of that. Kanami had to avert her gaze though when he looked at her, opting to stare at the falls.

"You wanna shoulder to cry on?"

"Yeahno, I don't cry." Nope, this sassy girl was not that girly in the least. Traces were there, the elastic hair bands that tied off the end of her loose braids jingle with small charm of the eight-fold dharma wheel glimmering. "There's no reason to. He was Buddhist, so as far as it is, he escaped samsara. Considering he was sick for so long, he was simply released. Why mourn that?"

Yes, the snarky one had rare moments of clarity, but they were fleeting, never lingering for more than she allowed it. The sharp gaze returns.

"I take it you're not gonna put on a shirt at all. Get all your girls with an eyecatch?"

"Heh, I see someone lacks modesty, Blondie thing."

The eyebrow rose higher, and Drake's mouth twitched into a wider grin. "When you're this good," a quick gesture, just in case she'd missed the perfectly ripped chest, the arms, the legs, the hair, the masterpiece that was Blackwood, "it's hard to be humble."

"There's no reason to. He was Buddhist, so as far as it is, he escaped samsara. Considering he was sick for so long, he was simply released. Why mourn that?"

"Ah, because he had cancer in the first place," Drake said, his tone making it clear he pointing out the glaringly obvious and avoiding the desire to demand what a samsara was. However, he quickly dialed down the jerk, taking a breath. He could be a jerk to other people, later.

"I take it you're not gonna put on a shirt at all. Get all your girls with an eyecatch?"

Was she slow? Usually, by now they were at least trying to flirt back. Drake met her eyes with his own, thankfully totally protected from sharp things by his expensive designer glasses. "Why?" he grinned lazy and stretched, "See something you like?"

"When you're this good, it's hard to be humble."

Did Kanami notice given that undeniable gesture of "enjoy this eye candy" he offered to her? Whether she had or not was completely obscured, not quite hearing him yet hearing him, even avoiding his gaze yet again. If he was an observant one, he would see that the girl's gaze was not one that was looking at him. These were the eyes of a girl who saw right through him, inside even, watching the gears turn and ideas connect. If he was not observant, she would come off as pretty slow on the uptake - and that would prove to be a grand underestimation.

"Samsara." Kanami says, having noted his lack of understanding words that don't have anything to do with his ego. "Usually means 'continuous movement': life, death and rebirth in which all beings of the universe participate in. The whole point is to escape the 'dukkha' or suffering of these cycles to attain nirvana, the freedom from suffering."

The girl would kneel down to dip her hands in the water, washing her face and hands. Ah, to be cleaned after spelunking in the caves!

"Truthfully, right now Blondie-thing." She stood up and beamed cheerfully at him. "You're quite a large piece of dukkha at the moment. You're incredibly full of yourself, but I appreciate that you make no illusions about it. And that you like the Beastie Boys."

Gone was the smile, just the sharp gaze shot to him. "But apart from that, your tactics to try to have me take notice of you is laughably obvious. I'm sure it works all the time on other pretty, empty-headed holes that you can effortlessly conquer, but~"

The girl stretched her arms to the air. "You're not all that impressive to me."

"Samsara.. Usually means 'continuous movement': life, death and rebirth in which all beings of the universe participate in. The whole point is to escape the 'dukkha' or suffering of these cycles to attain nirvana, the freedom from suffering."

"So you're a hippy," Drake diagnosed, disregarding the particulars of what she said under do not care. That was cool, hippies were usually into free love, right? Though she didn't look like a hippy; her hair was too clean. And her eyes weren't stoner eyes. In fact, if Drake didn't have an ego as solid and unbreakable as adamantium, the way she was looking at him could have even made him doubt himself a little bit.

"You're quite a large piece of dukkha at the moment. You're incredibly full of yourself, but I appreciate that you make no illusions about it. And that you like the Beastie Boys."

"Dukkha is something you can dip bread into," the rich kid dismissed, but grinned at the compliment. Yes, it was a compliment. "I have excellent taste," he grinned, and lent forward. "And you still haven't told me your name."

"But apart from that, your tactics to try to have me take notice of you is laughably obvious. I'm sure it works all the time on other pretty, empty-headed holes that you can effortlessly conquer, but~"

"It does," he assured her, still smirking.

"You're not all that impressive to me."

Well clearly she just wasting paying proper attention. Or maybe she needed No one said no to a Blackwood, not for long anyway. "So is that a 'give me a chance to see your sensitve side' new age man crap, or a 'I like guys I can feel superior to in order to help my own insecurities', because i can work with either."

"So you're a hippy."

Epic facepalm - point flew over his head in spectacular fashion. Yup, now she was certain that this was the universe messing with her, not that she didn't think even for a second a guy like him would even understand anything concerning Buddhism. Or any ism...hell, anything given his comment about dukkha was boiled down to food for some reason, how the hell did that happen again?

"No, douchebag. Not hippy...and it's Kana, but that's not relevant." That's all she said to the want of knowing her name, probably a decision she would regret later. That she was certain about.

"So is that a 'give me a chance to see your sensitve side' new age man crap, or a 'I like guys I can feel superior to in order to help my own insecurities'"

Sweatdrop and a flat stare: what. Just what. This guy...Kanami sighed in exasperation. All right, time to simply be direct!

"Yeahno, neither of those things sound remotely close to what I am suggesting. You don't have the capacity to even pretend to have a sensitive side and I don't have any interest in idiots."

"No, douchebag. Not hippy...and it's Kana, but that's not relevant."

"Aw, don't be so hard on yourself, Kana," Drake grinned, "You're not that bad." He was brushing off the insult like they were lint, and was unable to stop himself deliberately misunderstanding her. Kana, ey? He'd remember that.

He met her stare and just raised his eyebrows in a you know you want to sort of way. It had been a while since he'd had someone so blatantly reject him before. It was kind of a turn on.

"Yeahno, neither of those things sound remotely close to what I am suggesting. You don't have the capacity to even pretend to have a sensitive side and I don't have any interest in idiots."

Now wait just a moment... He hadn't had a problem with the insults so far. They were all, after all, true. "I'm not an idiot, babe," Drake said, the smoothness dropping for a moment. But then the smile was back, and his tongue had recovered its natural silver coating. "Come on. Ever had a ride in a helicopter? Or we can take my jet to somewhere exotic?" That's right. He had a jet. And while his expression didn't alter, the blue eyes behind his glasses were regarding her closely. The money was usually a cincher in pulling the more stubborn birds. Would it work now?

Who the hell was being hard on oneself? And she was that bad! Nothing about her stood out compared to a lot of girls in the school - not pretty, not cute, no glowing skin, no wings of any type, no identifiable fashion sense, no odd hair that shimmered in the right light. Nope, Kanami was the plain girl with hair and and eyes in both shades of light and dark with a sharp tongue, snarky attitude and penchant to spy on others at whim.

"I'm not an idiot, babe."

Flat stare. Did he really think that way? Delusional? "Coulda fooled me."

"Come on. Ever had a ride in a helicopter? Or we can take my jet to somewhere exotic?"

Kanami tapped her cheek in thought. Did THAT manage to get through to her, the monetary silver lining that lured all other women from the hardest of shells? The fact that she pause may be significant!

"Nope, don't give a shit about that." Or not. She says it with a smirk, spinning around to leave. Complete rejection in every fiber of her being! This girl was not ordinary in the least.

"Honestly, couldn't you do better than that, Blondie-thing? That's a bit of a stoop to the lowest common denominator to pull out the 'oh lookit me I'm a rich douche' card."

"Nope, don't give a shit about that."

Now just a moment! Drake moved quickly, much more quickly then the average human could ever hope to as he stepped around to block Kanami's way out. "Hey, don't be so hasty," he said cheerily, throwing an arm out to lean against a tree and grinning again. It was possible she'd missed how perfect his teeth where, after all. Genetics genetics genetics. They were important, after all.

"Honestly, couldn't you do better than that, Blondie-thing? That's a bit of a stoop to the lowest common denominator to pull out the 'oh lookit me I'm a rich douche' card."

Now a sigh as he lent back and ran a hand through his hair, the blond locks falling back into place effortlessly. "Kana, anyone ever told you you're a bit of a bitch?" the heir asked, one golden eyebrow raised even as his eyes shone. "I'm just trying to be friendly. No need to bite my head off." He moved out of her way in one languid movement, though the slight quirk in his mouth promised mischief to come.

"And don't knock my methods, pigtails. This know it all bitch thing you have going on," he glanced up and down, still smirking, "is cute in a way, but it ain't worth my best." It wasn't an insult, that was the thing. It was just that it didn't take long to realize when something wasn't working, and it didn't take a genius to put together trying more of the same wouldn't work either.

A quick motion and he was in front of her, to which Kanami would stare at him with a completely straight face. Persistent...she'll give him that and nothing more. She still had a hard time actually facing him for long, opting to have her gaze fall anywhere but his presence. The reason was evident to her and no one else.

"Kana, anyone ever told you you're a bit of a bitch? I'm just trying to be friendly. No need to bite my head off."

"All the time." The ease that Kana said such words with ease that there was no question it was true. A bit? Try a total bitch and then some. It all rolled off her back by now, she rarely considered the words of anyone else outside of her usual circle to be worthy of noting. "And don't lie. Friendly is carrying an otherwise passive conversation. No, you wanted an in. Your type always does."

And this particular one was not gonna let him win over her just like that.

"And don't knock my methods, pigtails. This know it all bitch thing you have going on," Kana had not lock away her discomfort from his glance, especially with the subsequent words. "Is cute in a way, but it ain't worth my best."

Cute? What?

"Well, that's good for me, eh? I will take that as as admission of defeat on your part, Blondie-thing. Hopefully, that's not a bother to you." Given that he stepped out of her way, Kanami would take it, starting off towards the direction of the school. A stop and a small turn, a confident smirk across her face.

"Can't win them all, right?" A wave of her hand. "Ja ne."

It won't be the last she'd see of him most likely, continuing to play the rest of Bodhisattva Vow. She had class with the guy after all, but hopefully this was discouragement. There were other more willing and more empty-headed females he could chase after.

Oh please. His type? Drake was unique. He was a fingerprint. He was a snowflake. He was scoffing very loudly at the very thought. And anyway, he was being friendly. As far as Drake was concerned, it was being nice to a girl to hit on her. He was incredible, after all. Totally awesome. It would be an act of cruelty not to flirt with the ladies.

"Well, that's good for me, eh? I will take that as as admission of defeat on your part, Blondie-thing. Hopefully, that's not a bother to you... Can't win them all, right?"

"You can take it any way you want to, babe," Drake conceded, even managing to look serious for a moment before the smirk crept back. And here, he thought she had the whole smart thing going on. Apparently she didn't get that something like that just made it obvious she would be easy to annoy. And Kana seemed like she would be easy to wind up.

Oh, he still wanted to tap that, but the old schoolyard 'tug the pigtails' technique had worked in the past. "Bye, Kana~" he sung after her, then watched her go with interest. Cute butt.

Ace never bothered with girls who were clearly not interested, but Drake loved a challenge. And when you were that arrogant, there was something.. appealing in a girl who was that sure of herself.
