Grand Central Station would be bustling at this time, but it would become an entirely different world once he steps pass the designated mysterious tucked-away pair of doors that Mai had instructed him to approach. He would pass the threshold and the world would materialize before his eyes while the entrance faded. This was truly the boundary of an entirely other world. People of all sorts of bizarre visual biologies would pass by in a rush, flickers of interactive advertisements would pop out at him, urging him to try all sorts of treats and products . A cute holographic girl with bright aqua hair would usher him along, please continue onward the moving walkway, leading him down the spacious main hall. he would pass doors leading to...well, God knows where. But the place he had to be was the food court, where it was impossible to miss the radiant, bespectacled young woman waiting for his arrival, waving to him the moment her eyes landed on him. "THOOOMAAAAS~~~<3" And just as loud as he'd probably remember too. |

Thomas stepped through the rabbit hole, and stepped out into a strange world. His eyes adjusted to the light. It looked different here, not just in form but in radiance. Everything felt oversaturated. His name sounded in the distance. Tom recognized the familiar face despite current circumstances. He walked over, noting the variety of common food court staples, and sat at the table. Thomas knew Mai for several years. They have a memorable encounter which led them toward professional respect. It was also the incident that gave him a new view on the world. This place, however, was a location no previous experiences prepared him for. He was not afraid by any means. Any place with an Arbys was better than downtown Belgrade during ‘political reorganization’. “So,” Thomas said dryly, “You told me this would be unique. The only thing I didn’t expect after… arriving, was seeing holograms offering samples of teriyaki beef.” |

“So...You told me this would be unique. The only thing I didn’t expect after… arriving, was seeing holograms offering samples of teriyaki beef.” Mai offered Thomas a mozzarella stick, a bright smile on her face. "Well, technically, you're only in the hub. The shock and awe is more outside of here. I'm glad you didn't end up just running back to Grand Central. A lot of people tend to be really jumpy about seeing beings with scales or elves or super interactive holograms. It's a shame really! So many interesting people come through here every day." In fact, a she spoke, a naga-like being passed by their table carrying a Subway sandwich. Yes, even Subway had managed to make it down into Axiom. Mai laced her fingers together beneath her chin. "My boss was okay with your arrival due to your current status. We could always use more hands around the campus considering the nature of the situation. If you have any reservations...you can always go back, you know? It's not going to be easy or simple dealing with metas as a whole." |

Thomas shook off the stick. Cheese did not agree with his stomach. He eyed the strange creature creeping by with a five dollar foot long. “Subway…? No, it sounds fine. Believe it or not, oddities are nothing new in my former career.” Thomas spun, eyeing a spot of seeming nothingness. He hated sitting in the open. Even in this odd place his senses were heightened. He understood that this place was much safer than anywhere else in the normal world, but the idea did not settle properly. He half expected someone armed with a modified Russian rifle to run out screaming in Nigerian. “Plus,” Thomas relaxed and grinned, “I built up a long list of enemies in my former career. Anywhere off the beaten path is better for me right now, especially since I can’t come inside.” |

“Subway…? No, it sounds fine. Believe it or not, oddities are nothing new in my former career.” Crunch! Mai chomped on the refused breaded cheese goodness and pointed at him with the bitten stub. "Oh these are far from oddities, Tom-Tom. These kids are brimming with potential and heart and good things! But they need protecting...you know as well, maybe even better than I do what happens if the people in charge sees something like this. Those that won't think twice about using gifted ones for their advantage, whether they are children or not." Mai observed her friend quietly a moment. Movement kept his guard up, a constant alertness deeply ingrained into him that it was subtle. She had to wonder what went through his head at times - such a carefree lady this woman was! “Plus, I built up a long list of enemies in my former career. Anywhere off the beaten path is better for me right now, especially since I can’t come inside.” A bright smile. "Mymy, no wonder it was so hard to see you for so long, I was never really sure where you were! I once tried to call you and you were Columbia, then in Jordan or something. In any case, you're in the right place Tom-Tom. Axiom here is the bordercity of the meta world so to speak, it's amazingly guarded. No one in the mundane world know how to really get in, as you could tell by the extensive clearance I had to request of you being you lacked the meta essence. In fact, my dear Shalamar had to make deal with this particular realm in exchange for added protection of our students. A little more coming from you will only help~<3" Yes, she said "realm" as if it was the most normal thing in the world, like fresh corn being tasty or New Jersey smells terrible. "You know about the incidents regarding why we had to leave Buffalo, right?" A scritch of her head, she wasn't entirely sure if she had related that to him yet. |

"Only rumors." Tom replied, dryly. His eyes darted around quickly, like a dreamer deep in REM sleep. His attention was only partially occupied by the impulse to scan everything and anything. He never knew what would be an enemy or an ally, a hindrance or an asset. Taking a mental inventory of the environment was always a good habit. "Now, protection I can give. Not having superpowers shouldn't really matter, not while protecting those with super powers. If something like that mattered Vietnam would've had a McDonalds in the 70s, ya know?" Tom grinned. "Regardless," The man scratched his knee and leant forward, "It's all about getting to know the environment inside and outside. But, if you're so worried about sheltering them from the outside you need to also make sure the outside is protected from them. North Korea and some of those African warlords would love a fraction of whatever weirdness you have assembled beyond. If they become wise and truly can't come here, they would just wait for any vulnerability. I know. I was in the middle of nowhere several times and somehow the bad guys tracked me. Hiding is always impossible when you have a determined hunter." Tom placed both hands, lined with years of activity, on the table. His palms faced roof-ward. A quick motion created a slap, like a venus flytrap ensnaring its prey. Tom brought his hands to his nose and gingerly touched the tip. "That's why it's always better to ensnare the hunter. That message is always better than hiding." |

Another crunch of a cheese stick. Pesky rumors that muddled the truth - Mai knew but had spoken very little of it. She still knew the sting of having to relate what had happened to others who wouldn't understand, where erasure was the only way to have this existence of theirs continue. "Now, protection I can give. Not having superpowers shouldn't really matter, not while protecting those with super powers. If something like that mattered Vietnam would've had a McDonalds in the 70s, ya know?" Mai couldn't help but chuckle at that. When he leaned forward, so did she. Odd, this felt like they were hiding this conversation from the world itself, eyes that watch them. Bu no one watches them here, right? "Regardless. It's all about getting to know the environment inside and outside. Hiding is always impossible when you have a determined hunter." "How comforting, Tom-Tom." Mai says with a nervous sort of cheer this time around. Ensnare the hunter...easier said that done. "Hopefully it won't come down to that...but no harm in being ready for it." A sip of a drink. "Lloyd will be meeting with us once we make it to the school. He will be able to give you clearance onto the campus, you'll be given your Aeon to keep in contact with the faculty, as well as give you armaments to help deal with the children or any threat that could arise. We have a few problem ones we have been diligently keeping an eye on, so we'll be sure to give you information on those particulars." A small pause. "Are you sure you're not hungry?" |

Thomas ignored the offer. His nerves and drive kept hunger a distant concern. He often went without eating on missions. Nothing mattered to him but the objective. The objective in this instance was the odd part. All this cloak and dagger stuff made him think the picture was larger than Mai was letting on. "So, why me, why extra security for that matter. All this seems pretty secure, ya know?" Thomas leaned forward. "I doubt you would need someone like me if the issues were all internal. My experience is all about the nasty stuff out there. The woods are dark and scary at night." |

"So, why me, why extra security for that matter. All this seems pretty secure, ya know?" A sweet smile crosses the woman's face as he leaned forward. "I doubt you would need someone like me if the issues were all internal. My experience is all about the nasty stuff out there. The woods are dark and scary at night." A shift in her gaze, follow it. Close by was a woman in a suit, short dark hair, an impassive expression locked on her face. She was turned away from them, attention placed in a punk music magazine, but Mai seemed quite focused on her. Distrust? Worry? Was it something else eating at her? "Best we not speak of that matter here." She says, picking up her drink to take with her. "I can't wait for you to meet my co-workers. They are quite the interesting bunch~" |
