The city of Azmaria was bright with light, the downtown coffee shop full of it's loyal patrons. It was here that this older man blended in easily. His short cropped, blonde hair and dark eyes hardly enough to set him apart from anyone else that was eating. An old jean jacket, adorned with biker patches and rips, was the only defining feature, he was fairly lackluster otherwise.

He sat in a corner booth, a young man sitting across for him that could pass for his son. Both of them had a cup of black coffee and a plate of donuts. Neither said anything for a long time, simply drinking coffee at regular intervals and disappearing into the background.

"She should be arriving soon. From our surveilance we've found she's seldom late." The younger said, his tone of voice was no nonsense. Clearly military. The elder didn't speak, lifting his mug and taking a long drink from the dark liquid within idly. His eyes were turned to the outside, staring through the pane of glass, waiting to see her walk up. He hadn't seen the girl in near 10 years. He wondered idly what she looked like now, hopefully more like he rmother then himself.

They didn't wait more then a minute or two longer. The girl wandered in, the older man's back to her. She looked a bit confused, glancing around as if looking for someone. The younger raised his hand, beconing her over with a wave. She hesitated, fingering the strap of her shoulder bag nervously. She didn't know these men, how they'd gotten the number to her Aeon was unknown... but she didn't know if it was all wise to even be here at this point. Finally she stepped towards them gingerly.

"Who are you? How did you get my number?" She stated, stopping out of reach of either of the men. Her hazel ehes were nervous and darted between the two. She still couldn't see the other man's face, though she couldn't get over how vaguely familliar he was.

"Why hello Miss Fisher. My name is Lt. Alexander Thompson, however, you can call me Alex." The younger man said with a charming smile, trying to disarm her with his cordial tone. Zxaine lifted a brow, but did not rise to the bait. She didn't flirt with just anyone these days.

"You didn't answer the second question, which is the most important." She muttered darkly, taking a step backwards. Her eyes shifted back to the other man. "And who is he?"

A chuckle from the previously silent man caused the girl to jump back in surprise. Her bag made a low growling sound and she pressed her hand against it gently to silence the feline within. Damion was awake, and listening.

"Why Z. You don't remember me?" The elder said, turning to look at her finally. He laughed quietly as the blood drained from her face, the girl looking about to faint. "I'm surprised."

"But.. but you're..."

"Dead? No no girl, just deep under cover. Got important work to do, keeping people safe. Catchin the bad guys." He chuckled and she waivered, her father wasn't dead? The feeling of abandonment was overwhelming and she sidestepped away from them.

"How dare you come back now?" She whispered, her tone resentful. "You abandon us then just waltz back into my life like it's no big deal?" Her voice was strained with emotion, her eyes hard as stone. The girl waivered on her feet and Alex rose swiftly, taking her by the shoulders and leading her to a seat in the booth. "Why are you here?"

"Now now. Quiet Z, no need to make a scene is there?" Derrik glanced around, but they might as well be invisible for as much as anyone paid the table any heed. Not a single head was turned towards the girl's minor outburst. "You're being called upon by your country. They thought me coming would be easier on you. Clearly they were mistaken." He sighed and looked at Alex, he doubted the girl would cooperate with them. She was always a headstrong child.

"Yes sir." Alex nodded his head and looked at Zxaine. "We have need of your.... unique talents... to stop a threat."

"So you thought you'd just walk in here and I'd follow you around like some trained soldier, doing what I'm told like a good little girl." She scoffed at the indignity, her arms folding, Derrik laughed.

"Dear, sweet Zxaine. Head strong as always, but when have I ever given you a choice? You will do this." He nodded at Alex as he spoke and the other man reached into Zxaine's sidebag, grabbing Damion roughly by the scruff of his neck and pinning him to the table in such a way as his air intake was hampered. The girl gasped, her own breathing impeded by the rough treatment of her familiar. The cat hissed and his claws flexed against the table top, struggling against his holder. Unable to take his true size without the command from Zxaine who was having a hard enough time getting air into her lungs. "Remember. I know all about your mother and her familiar, I doubt yours is any different." His eyes went hard, looking at Alex who shot Zxaine an appologetic look then sliced open the cat's shoulder to the bone. Both cat and girl hissed, her hand clamping over her shoulder as it blossomed with crimson.

"Leave Damion alone!" She whimpered, it wasn't right or fair to punish the cat. Her arm snapped out, pulling the cat away from Alex and cradling him against her chest, fingers and arms stained with mingled blood. Both turned thier eyes on Derrik, hate nearly spilling from them. "If you think bullying Damion will make me help you, you're more insane then Tusin." She hissed.

Derrik merely chuckled again.

"Zxaine. I don't want to be cruel. But you are not leaving me much choice." His voice was solemn. "Think about it. You have 24 hours to comply. Don't make me have to come back here."

The two men stood and left, leaving the girl and her cat in the booth. Blood dripped onto the vinyl seats as hate filled eyes watched them go. Like hell she'd do anything THEY asked of her. She looked out the window, she should get her and Damion's shoulders looked at, but she just wanted to sit there for a few minutes and process. She wasn't even sure how they got to this city.... it was all so puzzling.

She had returned to the diner again, why he chose a place that was clearly a resort was beyond her. Maybe he wanted to take a vacation while he tortured her. Ha. The idea that he could contain her was laughable. Damion was perched on her shoulder, keeping a watchful eye out, he'd not be caught again.

The girl moved to the same booth as before, ordering a milkshake, and tapped the buttons on her Aeon idly, writing a message to someone.

[I miss you.]

Send. Just in case something happened, she wanted him to know that she still cared and that she was still and would always be waiting on him. Her mouth twitched, shoulder throbbing but she made no motion to touch it. She'd made them wait several days before bothering to contact them. Surely they'd be upset by her defiance. Still, she would tell them in person. Hazel eyes darted to the clock on the wall... they'd be arriving momentarily. As if by clockwork the bell on the door chimed, two men walking in. The first she recognized as her father. Derrik. The other, well it clearly was not Alex. This time he'd brought someone who was so clearly pulled off the bench of a gym. She looked unafraid, though she played with a spoon with her right hand, under the table where they couldn't see. Just in case.

"Punctual." She stated coldly, Damion hissing and flexing his claws. "Who is this? Needed someone a bit more ... intimidating to try and convince one little girl to do your dirty work? I'm disappointed." Her voice was sarcastic, eyes narrowing slightly in hate.

"Now now Zxaine, we needn't be acting so rashly. This is Private Matthew. He needs a bit of on the field time so I brought him with to observe." His voice was calm, she didn't believe a word of it. As Matthew went to sit beside her and block her in she turned her head sharply and narrowed her eyes.

"You can sit over there. With him. As easily as I can get away from you... I don't want anything funny going on. Last time I trusted one of you to sit near me I ended up with a lovely, crimson parting gift." Her words were quietly hissed, the private blinked at her, his dark hair and grayish eyes confused. Obviously he wasn't in on the game and she shooed him to the other side of the table with another venomous glare.

"Have you considered the offer?" Came Derrik's question as soon as they were seated. She nodded once, taking a sip from her strawberry shake, making them wait for an answer. Finally she turned her eyes to them.

"Yes. I have. I've decided you can rot. After all you've done to me, to Mom, to my brothers. I don't care if someone drops a nuke on your head or your bosses head. Hell I don't care if the world goes to hell in a handbasket. Because if you think for one moment that I'm STUPID enough to trust you..."

And she was stopped there with a sharp pain on her left cheek. He'd actually struck her?! He reached out and backhanded her across the face? Her eyes were frozen for a moment, shock slow to melt away. No one had ever flat out slapped her before, not even her mother at her most insane.

"I did not want to do that." The lie was cool and clear, Damion rowling and flexing his claws. "But as I said, you don't have a choice." He slid a piece of paper towards her. "I want the files of everyone on this list. And I want it tomorrow."

"Choke on your own ego you bastard." was the only response she got out. She was going to continue but again blinding pain shot through her head, once again the back of his hand smashed against the left side of her face. She'd had enough. "I think I'm done here. You're lucky I haven't made it clear to any of the faculty you're here, trying to get info on the students." She shoved the paper back towards him, already feeling the bruise start. Damnit. She was going to have a hell of a time explaining this to anyone she saw. "You're dead to me. Get out of my life." She snarled and Matthew stood up. Moving towards her, likely to stop her from leaving. Her eyes narrowed and she vanished, reappearing at the door. Not a single person besides the young soldier batted an eyelash, he hadn't been told about anything like this. He was just brought along as ... well backup. She narrowed her eyes and walked out, disappearing into the crowd.

"Well, that could have gone better." Was the only thing Derrik said, following after the girl, but losing her in the hussle and bussle of the resort.

Welcome to The Summerland
Zxaine would disappear from view, but not completely of her own accord. A stranger for now would rest a hand on her shoulder before she went completely; was that really a crowd that covered them from view. Bright green eyes glanced down at her. "You better get back to school." She said, winking idly in the fleeting moment.

"Derrik." Ellis entered the room with simplicity, half expecting him to salute her for her superior ranking. He should have known better than to stumble into a place where he wasn't welcome. No one was welcome in her territory. But he hadn't spent time in her crowd for years; no one was entirely sure where he'd gone. Sauntering over, she shot a look to the owner of the establishment, who smartly turned a blind eye to her presence in the place. "Axiom. Really? You should know better." Her arms folded. Empty handed? Never. Her eyes peered down to the table, where a neatly written list presided. "Recruiting for your defects?" Had he known she was around? Who would know; but in the right circles the word had been spread that no one messed with the secrets of Axiom.

MHS was one of those secrets. "Where'd you get my names from." She asked, her cool exterior making her nerve untouchable.

As the hand went to her shoulder she whirled around, half expecting her father and her eyes narrowed. What she found was a completely different person. Who the hell was this woman?

"You better get back to school."

What the.... who was this woman. All Zxaine could do was nod twice and take a few steps back. Hazel staring straight into green. As the woman winked the girl disappeared, back to school in an instant. The need to get away overwhelming.

Derrik had returned to the diner, Matthew smartly where he'd been left. He hadn't ordered the boy to leave that post, and for now it was his post. He motioned the young man to sit, who promptly did. However a voice stopped him from doing the same.

"Derrik. Axiom. Really? You should know better."

He turned and looked over the newcomer, that she knew who he was was rather impressive. He'd been 'dead' for many years now. Assumed most thought he'd stay that way. Silly people, you can't show someone as power crazy as him something like metas and expect him to fade away into retirement like a good little soldier.

"Hello Ellis." He responded just as simply, his mud colored eyes watching her. "You know me, always sticking my nose where it's not needed. If only to get a bit of the excitement now and then. It's been years." The soldier knew to be wary of this one, but still, he wouldn't make it a known issue. He was aware of her status, he may have been off their radar, but they were never off his.

"Where'd you get my names from."

"Around. It was a test, to see if my daughter was up to the challenge. She's more headstrong then her mother was. Still, I broke that one, and my daughter will be no different." He shrugged. She didn't need to know his sources, honestly, it was likely she already knew and just wanted to hear him say it. She should know better then that, he never gave up information. He knew that this place was one of those 'mess with if you want to die' areas, but honestly, he'd been 'dead' for near 10 years. During that time the man had made connections with some very wealthy and very power hungry people, gotten all the information he needed to figure out how to harness meta's abilities to his needs. His gaze remained impassive, even as Matthew watched on warily. "I didn't know you were in these parts." A partial lie, he was vaguely aware that she might be, but honestly. When had he let anyone put a damper on his plans?

Welcome to The Summerland
He knew her name; that was good. Ellis almost worried for a moment that it had been too long for him to remember her face, let alone her name. She stood patiently to learn that he was trying to test his daughter. "Ah. I thought I recognised her." Was all she said to the notion. Thought? She knew the books of MHS better than one might expect for a manager to a nightclub.

"Oh, that's funny. All your contacts know I'm here." Ellis replied. Her network would surprise him by now; not just with their old organisation but so much more than that. Still, it was worthy of her to keep him thinking she had a singular line of work apart from the others. No one knew her motives apart from her and the school, and there was no way anyone could know otherwise. Her knit was tighter than a damn sweater. "Let's play a game. It's called; if you hang around too long, I'll send your number one contact a box with your balls inside." Her lips curled into a smirk. It had been years since he'd really seen her; still just a girl ten years ago but the potential of a god. If his contacts had done right by her, they had leaked enough information for him to know she was not someone to mess around with.

"Or maybe they'd look nicer in the trophy case or your old boss." Her current one, though had he stayed, he would know by now that she would probably run his old faction. "You know me, I don't like to share my toys." She referred solely to the school as she rested a hand on the back of one of the chairs. The names on the list? The few that were right were almost common knowledge in the world of higher ups by now. One in particular would have a certain teacher down here in a heartbeat. And she would give less than a generous warning.

He brushed off the information about his daughter, he was certain anyone here in any form of command would know about every child in that school and be able to recite their abilities in their sleep if needed. A short chuckle came from the man and he motioned Matthew to stand, the young man did, awaiting the order to move out.

"Oh, that's funny. All your contacts know I'm here."

"Of course they do." He shrugged, he'd been at this game longer then she had. And while she had powers to make up for what experience she lacked... well let's just say this wasn't his first rodeo. He took a few steps towards her and pushed the list towards her. "You can keep it. She failed the test. I'm sure you realize some of those names are fake, made up. The others..." His smile was cool and collected.

"Let's play a game. It's called; if you hang around too long, I'll send your number one contact a box with your balls inside." He chuckled at that. Such threats. "Or maybe they'd look nicer in the trophy case or your old boss."

"Oh still so rash and violent. I thought they would have trained that out of you by now. Do you still throw tantrums when you don't get your way?" He laughed amiably, as if recalling a cherished memory. He remembered vague details about this particular girl, after all, at the time he had no interest in her... why would he have paid much attention? He was too busy breaking in that wife of his to bend her own abilities to his use.

"You know me, I don't like to share my toys."

"Yes. I know. Always the child." He stepped around her, Matthew following. "But do remember. Zxaine is my daughter, therefore... you can't stop me from seeing her. Or contacting her." His smile was honey, showing where Zxaine got the same trait from. That sickeningly sweet, can't get rid of it smile that made you want to just shake them till they stop. "You can't get rid of me that easily girl. Do remember that." He turned to Matthew. "Return to operations." The younger man left swiftly, happy to be out of that situation. Derrik turned to Ellis and bowed ever so slightly. "Till next time." Then he took a step backwards, slipping out the door.

Welcome to The Summerland
"You don't train your right hand." Ellis smirked, yes he may have known her when she was young and in the more rougher state of her life, but a lot of time had passed, and she had gone above and beyond to get where she needed to be. He might have seen his share of battles, but she had too; in pressurised situations, one learns to pick up a trait or two quickly. Still, he turned to leave, and she wouldn't stop him. Why did she need to? Corners in this world were never as they seemed, and dark shadows kept the same notion. She was sure he had no idea what he stumbled in on, as no one in the universe had a chance of knowing. It was just how she liked it.

"Stop by The Summerland if you need me." She offered the invitation willingly. Who knew? He might have a little information for trade. Old contacts die hard.

Then he was gone. Her eyes connected to the owner of the establishment. He shared in her chuckle as she turned to walk out through the back of the place. Did he just throw her something?

That's none of your business.
