New season, new drama. XD

A growing nervousness in the pit of her stomach as Amber approached the administration building. Compared to the other buildings on the school grounds, this looked the plainest and yet the most official in it's discretion. Most of the students passed it by without a second look, but for the winged girl, it was the destination. Crossing the threshold, Amber stopped to look at the directory by the door, dark eyes scanning for the right name and numbers.

104 - Amaya Kudo

The girl shut her eyes, forcing anymore nervousness that bubbled to simmer to a calm. If this wasn't resolved sooner than later, it was going to be a really long year. And given she actually has her class for this semester, she doubted she could bear whatever it was that made things so hopelessly awkward and heavy. Stein had made it clear numerous times that the nature of her actions would have ruffled a few feathers amongst some of the faculty - was Kudo one of them? Amber was not sure how much was reality and what she imagined the day of the Assembly.

Thus why she was here. It had to be clarified, and she really had not spoken much about what had happened to anyone. Thinking about it hurt her head and drained her just to conjure the images of what had happened. Amber drew a breath and approached the desk of the head secretary.

Mrs. Marybojangles, head secretary of the MHS Administration building, greets the winged girl with an air of urgent scrutiny. The hoarse 40 - something year old office lady was hard to look at, a woman who lived quite a difficult life. A cigarette clenched between thin lips reddened by lipstick; no amount of makeup in the world could do this woman any good in concealing the lines in her face. She had little care to the health of her lungs or her looks, just focused on paperwork, organization and taking charge of the front desk as per her job - that was all there was to her.

"Yes?" The coarse woman asked after transferring a call. Amber flinched a little at the woman's tone, but stood her ground.

"Ah...Do you happen to know if Kudo-sensei is in her office? And if she's seeing visitors?"

Marybojangles glances down at her computer, typed away at grand speed, grumbling to herself. "Yes, she's in. Do you have an appointment?" A pause as if recalling some tidbit of information stored away while peering at the winged girl a moment then to the screen. She types something in first and then responds: "Feh, forget what I said. Down the hallway, first door down."

Amber blinked in confusion, then bowed her head. "Thank you, ma'am." And down the hallway as instructed. The nervousness began to surface again as she neared the door. She could hear the hum coming down the hall from Stein's office, which supposedly was creepy beyond belief according to student rumors. She shook her head, Kudo's office was not like that, just the icy woman was enough to stir her nerves.

She'd knock twice and waited for confirmation.

Amaya Kudo's office is hardly what the winged girl would expect, it seemed. She would enter the room to find Amaya behind the dark wood of her desk. It was centered perfectly behind an intricately placed bookshelf that stole the entire back wall of her office. Reading some of the titles would be impossible if one tried; several different languages and genres decorated the perfectly ordered rows of reading material. It looked to neat and untouched that one would argue if she ever actually used them. But Amaya Kudo would never busy herself with mindless decorations, which is why the main stint of her office was her desk, the two empty chairs on the other side of it and her books. The room itself feels dark. The walls are a deep shade of forest green on top with deep mahogany wood decking along the lower half all the way around the room.

A body awaits outside the door, and Amaya Kudo is still busy on a phone to a certain colleague. "No, I will not assist you further in the matter. I don't care how much you need it." She reasoned, harshly, and a familiar whining sound rings from the other side of the call. "Don't you have a class to get prepare for?" There is silence. Shuffling. Beep. Beep. Beep.

There is a knock on the door. "Enter." She says, and the door would make a clicking sound as though it had somehow unlocked itself. Amber would enter the room to see the woman sitting stoically at her desk, her head down as she riffled through a little paper work. "Sit." She would order lightly, her eyes not derailing from her work as a free hand motioned towards one of the seats on the other side. When Amber would finally sit, it would be a few more moments before Kudo finished writing on the sheet before her. She placed her pen in its place with the others, her hand quickly moving to flick at the glasses that had fallen and bridged on her nose. Through the glass, Kudo would glance over at the student.

"Yes?"

"Enter."

Amber sighed once more to calm her nerves before entering...The office was normal, so practical, if just a bit dark. The silence of it did nothing to relieve her worries.

"Sit."

Nevermind, not an ounce of relief for her nerves, not in the least so obediently she would sit. There was little to occupy her eyes or mind while waiting for that long moment. The ruffle of paperwork, the quiet that settled between them. Not even the books captured her attention too long. She did have the clearest thought in the silence: glasses? Suitable. It then dawned on Amber that...she didn't know how to begin, which made it all the more terrifying when Kudo finally acknowledged her presence.

"Yes?"

The winged girl bowed her head, both to just avoid any sort of possible gaze and to gather her thoughts. Where should she begin? Apologies? Explanation? She felt drained already and after the time it took to get herself to get here!

"I...um...wanted to say something. About what happened over the break." She lifted her head to look at her. Don't back down yet! "I mean...there's nothing that can excuse it or and I'm certain it caused a lot of trouble for the faculty here, because Stein mentioned it during the physical therapy." She bowed her head again, feeling a heaviness overcome her. This was not going well in the least.

"It wasn't intentional. I don't know how else to apologize for it all."

Her words caused a curious glance from Amaya; she raised her eyebrow to the notion that Amber would have some information to give her that she hadn't already received from an outside source. Imagine the surprised that surfaced on those dark eyes when she had actually apologised. Kudo let the moment settle, adding more agonising seconds to the waiting list before she might actually respond to what the girl had said. Amaya shifted in her seat slightly, crossing one leg over the other as she leaned back in her chair. Her fingers raised to her eyes, pulling the spectacles from her form and placing them down on the table.

"You have nothing to apologise to me for." She reasoned, albeit in a harsh tone that contradicted the very nature of reasoning in general. "None of us truly know what possessed you to go where you did, but your actions are a clear definition of allegiance to someone." she paused, reaching for her glasses to properly place them in the case where they belonged. It snapped shut with apparent force before landing back on the table. "That someone was not me." Amaya had said, turning to search the nearby window.

"But that is your choice. Perhaps I was wrong to assume you had placed some trust in me, as I have in you." Have. Kudo's words by their very nature were often difficult to decipher, but that should have been clear enough.

No apologies? Alliegences? No, that wasn't it! Why did those words hurt so much when it wasn't true? No, no one really knew then. The information had been muddled, things that were unsaid. And of this trust, what had she done really qualified as a breach? It terrified her somehow, in some inexplicable way. She tried not to rely yet relied on this woman in subtle and quieted ways - was that not why she was here at all? Was it mistaken? Her hands clenched into fists on her lap, a roar in her ears she tried to silence.

Don't assume that either. Please...not you.

Words she wanted to say but could not. "My mother." Lucid words that fell from her mouth, softly spoken however. The quiet of the office did not allow her words to faulter into the inaudible. Maybe it was some horrible atmospheric magic in this room - no matter what she spoke, they would most likely be heard but would it be acknowledged? "I had credible reason to believe that she was in danger - at the time, Kudo-sensei." A flicker of pain in her head, she pushed it away, her eyes remaining in her lap. "I should've known better. The one that called me out speaks familiar to me, but taints the word 'family' and is brutal-" A pause. That didn't matter.

"I saw too late it was a cruel trap, and there was a light dome..." Flicker, the dome of blinding light. What she held in her hands, red warmth trailing to her elbow, the blur of her own tears. Pain again, Amber again shut her eyes to force it back and pressed her hands to her face. Why did her forehead hurt so much? It happened whenever she thought of those moments, nightmarish and disbelief that permeated the situation she found herself in. No, even if it hurt, she needed to talk more, she wanted it out of her system for good!

"I was wrong, I really was. I couldn't rectify it in time or escape." Softly spoken again, with that lucidity.

Something in Amaya's words had stirred within the girl. She could see the change in her face, the way she averted her eyes and form from the teacher so. Kudo's perception must have been wrong. Were it so, she would willingly admit it. Amaya turned her gaze back to Amber, listening intently as she spoke of family; a cruel trick and trap had been laid and she had fallen into it. Family was a catalyst for this far too often, Kudo knew.

"I was wrong, I really was. I couldn't rectify it in time or escape."

"Had I known, I could have aided you." Amaya said sharply, her eyes unable to help the way they naturally narrowed on target. "I would have." She felt the need to correct herself. Kudo wheeled around from the window, standing in her office and walking around the table. She could see the defeat in the way her form slumped over and her face hid behind her hands. So she moved away from her power position behind the desk to occupy the chair beside her. She turned her face over her shoulder slightly to she might come into contact with Amber's eyes, but they were still hidden.

She reached over, her finger extended to tap the girl on the shoulder lightly; reasoning that Amber might have been too far in her thoughts to notice the teacher's silent movements. "Tell me more."

Had she known. Had Amber been more clear-headed in her reaction to the problem, then maybe she would have called for some backup. For all that she did not understand about facets of herself, her social connections always seems to conjure a more emotional response out of her. That in itself certainly was the issue that caused this trouble in the first place. She closed her eyes, supressing the need to collapse - she's not frail, she would not be now.

"I should have....That was my fault. I'm sorry."

Kudo's movements were lost to her, feeling and knowing nothing but that sharp pain for a moment. A flood of light again, that warm and coppery liquid on her fingers, the cacophany of screams as what were whole huma beings shattered into mist: bones organs and mass be damned. So it caught her by surprise when she felt a tap on her shoulder, drawing herself out of whatever was in her mind to look next to her.

Still there, Kudo was still there. This was reality and she was rooted here - a smallest comfort offered to her, whether the one owning the narrowed gaze knew it or not.

"More." She repeated softly, casting her eyes to her own lap. "I saw him...in my anger and I dashed to inflict anything, pain, a scratch, a punch. I lost focus, I didn't see what was happening." The girl made a sort of jabbing motion with her arm, angled, as if struck from the ground up and into her stomach. She remembered that clearly, her gesture was paired with an unblinking, far away gaze.

"Right when that happened, I knew it was a mistake to have come. But more came from ground up. They all hurt and kept impaling until I could no longer think to move." A shake of her head, disbelief. There were still gaps in the story, but to think of them hurt her head worse. Her head felt like splitting.

"Professor Stein said I was dead. I believe him...because I woke up and I was not where I died. No wounds. And three months had passed from what I remember." She blinked finally, a slide of a glance to Kudo. The girl looked drained just from recollection and wanted to break apart. And worry, significant worry on her face.

"I am alive, aren't I Kudo-sensei? This isn't an elaborate illusion, right? I remember saying, wishing to myself that I wanted to come back here with all my heart. Now that I have, I have terrifying pangs of doubt that I'm really here." Did it make sense? It sounded like ramblings to Amber when she spoke but in her mind, perfectly valid feelings of displacement that popped up from time to time since.

Amaya listened intently to what she had to say. The patches of her story were slowly being woven together with each memory she was giving the teacher. She could admit to understanding that going alone was wrong, but at the time she had no idea of knowing. She had mentioned Stein's analysis of the situation; this was information that Kudo had been given from Mai so she could understand the situation better. Amaya pushed the thought aside. She did not want to divulge her reaction to the knowledge she had been given. Not yet.

"I am alive, aren't I Kudo-sensei? This isn't an elaborate illusion, right? I remember saying, wishing to myself that I wanted to come back here with all my heart. Now that I have, I have terrifying pangs of doubt that I'm really here."

"You are here. As am I. We are here together in my office at the school." Kudo quickly interjected. Her voice was stern, as it needed to be to reiterate her point clearly. She needed to take the doubt out of Amber's voice. After listening and watching her reactions, Amaya could easy see that she was willing herself not to fall to pieces on the floor over this. "I could pinch you if you feared that you were dreaming." Kudo joked as much as she would, lightening the room in a way she was not normally known for.

Nevertheless, she needed to digress to a different note. "Your existence is not a construct that you will to be. It is a fact that exists in this world. It's real." And she would not say any more on the subject to note her definitive stance on it. Her eyes darted back to look at the girl by her side, her hands lifting to entwine her fingers together idly.

"Tell me more." She repeated, this time asking in general. It did not have to do with her memory if she did not wish to speak on it.

"You are here. As am I. We are here together in my office at the school."

A stern assurance that she exists. Whatever had happened there, the words that she wished for came true. The wish only came with some fair amount of pain, just another assurance that this existance was not an illusionary construct.

"I could pinch you if you feared that you were dreaming."

Blink. Okay, maybe that was a pang of doubt returning - did Kudo joke? No, the girl assured herself with a slight bow of her head, she'd be happier to believe that this was the world she wished to return to. Kudo's final words on the subject only served to reinforce it. Her nerves were at least settling, she had not been turned away as she feared. The little she had divulged about the incident left her relieved, a millstone cracked with parts crumbling away.

"Tell me more."

A lift of her head but silence out of her first. The memory, not of the incident itself but in pockets between the end and the beginning surfaced in small flickers. The clang of her sword when it fell onto the stone, audible and echoing. The violet-eyed figure that had comforted her to the end was fuzzy in her mind.

"My mother was fine, in the end." Amber says softly, another note of emotional overreaction. "A miracle considering I was so certain that that person threw her head down to me." Another detail where the girl physically locked up, stopping entirely. She didn't want to recall that again.

"I lost my sword...over there. Of all things to lose." It ached to say those words, no better than a knife-twist. Ever since she had been back, more and more she missed the weight of that sword, her father's gift to her and yet the constant tool of her kills. It should have been found by now. Who knows where it was or who had it now.

And on that note, she lucidly added: "The last thing I remember is seeing my father...and then my heart hurt." The violet-eyed shadow of the past had returned for her, long absent from her life. There was no way he would be back on this plane of existence, so she had been certain she had been dying. Amber closed her eyes to extinguish the image - it was just a dying dream. That was all, the strain in her voice noted her discomfort in further speaking about her father, so she changed the subject.

"Professor Stein and Miss Hanabishi have been helping me recover. I've been taking vitamins and these pills that Stein gave me. I get so exhausted and drain myself so quickly now...it's bothersome, but temporary they said." And a slide of the dark-eyed gaze to Kudo. How much had she even known about all this? Her lips parted to ask a question, but she felt it was not time to ask.

"I really didn't mean to give off an impression of mistrust. I don't have much in the way of other allegiances to adhere to...It was just a foolish move on my part."

The teacher listened further as she once more spoke of the involvement of her family. It was harsh, but Kudo wondered if it had been the lesson she needed. Nevertheless, just like always she had waited until the student had finished speaking before she would make any comments; she hardly wanted her words to be the cornerstone of why she is thrown off track.

"I really didn't mean to give off an impression of mistrust. I don't have much in the way of other allegiances to adhere to...It was just a foolish move on my part."

Her attention falls to Amber once more, dark orbs piercing through narrow eyes to study her further. At least, that's how it would feel when you were the subject of Kudo's glances. "Often, rushing heartfelt into a situation is your biggest downfall." Amaya shifted, leaning back into the chair to, her elbow falling to the armrests provided as she propped her chin in her hand, staring forward. "But, under the circumstances of your youth and naivety, I understand your choices. It is a difficult lesson to learn; one that few understand and can adhere to if need be." There; Kudo had found her own way to say she almost agreed with Amber's decision, regardless of how negatively she had been speaking of it.

"So tell me," Amaya began again, this time opting against her usual question, "Where are you placing all this trust? Where are your allegiences?" Finally, she peeled her eyes from the perfectly correct order of books, tilting her head to toss her eyes towards Amber again. She leaned inward slightly, as though her words were privy to one. "Apart from the obvious, mine are with you. Truth be told, I intend to see them through beyond the realms of your schooling here, if you'll allow it." What did that mean? Time beyond her years as a student at MHS?

"Often, rushing heartfelt into a situation is your biggest downfall. But, under the circumstances of your youth and naivety, I understand your choices. It is a difficult lesson to learn; one that few understand and can adhere to if need be."

Another small release of the pressure she felt, the scrutiny of her sensei's narrowed eyes caused her to look back down at her hands on her lap, places where wounds had been but no longer. So...it was natural to have done what she did, given how she responded and her close ties to her family - it was reasonable. Even if it was understood, Amber acknowledged Kudo must have been displeased in some small way: she still ended up taking up a stupid course of action and caused more trouble to befall on the only place she felt safe, the few people that accepted her despite the little monster she was.

"So tell me," Kudo was speaking again, so it drew up Amber's attention again in natural obedience. "Where are you placing all this trust? Where are your allegiences? Apart from the obvious, mine are with you. Truth be told, I intend to see them through beyond the realms of your schooling here, if you'll allow it."

Blink and a slight blush crossed her face, though why she couldn't exactly place. Did she really need to be watched that closely? Well, to be fair, she DID cause a pretty big incident, so it made sense if she had to be checked closer than she was used to. But...beyond her time here too? Her eyes dipped to the floor to really think about it. The future...she asked Mazohyst once upon a time about the future, both coming to the same conclusion - their future was foggy. Amber had been so certain she wouldn't even see too long past graduation, though death happened once already.

"I don't have a lot of people or places to trust. I've been burned too many times, even by people who insist calling me family or friend when their actions show otherwise. The future already is so densely fogged, I cannot see what awaits me, so to know that things that should be close can flip to distrust is scary." Exception was to her mother, the one woman in the world that never betrayed her senses of trust, was one but still she was fleeting warmth. If she was gone...what else did she have? Exception to the ones she connected with here, she could never see them turn against her in any way. Exception to Kudo, who made her stance pretty clear already.

"I like it here. It's has been the once place where I have felt safe. I was able to grow here and connect with wonderful people, live something of a normal life, even if I succumbed to errors on my part. My clearest wish as I was dying was to come back here, so...my allegiance has to be to here ultimately."

A look to Kudo again, wondering if her answer was sufficient.

Amaya Kudo's lips curl at one of the corners, forming a slightly effervescent smirk on her mouth. Yes, she is pleased by the notions given to her. A chuckle even escapes her lips, as dark as the sound may be. Amber liked it here; at least that meant that she would stay and here she would find more protection than she might realise. "This place will continue to serve you well, if you allow it." She mentioned.

And that almost appeared to be all she would say on the matter. "Is there anything else? You have my trust and should you feel you need it, my thanks and acceptance for your apology." She had said, not to rush the girl but to instead to give a sign that as far as Kudo was concerned, the chapter in question was closed. She had no more questions on the matter. "Should you have any questions for me on any matter, I am here." Amaya added, her personality showing stark differences to how she normally seemed to act around other students and faculty members. It was as close as she might get to being openly friendly as it were.

"I wish you would not feel the need to act so frightened and worried about my presence. It is unnecessary." Here, she brought up an issue of her own, seeming to soften a little further on the matter.

Oh, a bit of a dark chuckle out of her, certainly a good sign? Again, Amber probably wondered if this was the correct universe she returned to - stop, just trust this and trust Kudo's words. Accepting it was far better than worrying anymore about it.

"This place will continue to serve you well, if you allow it. Is there anything else? You have my trust and should you feel you need it, my thanks and acceptance for your apology."

Anything else...Amber's eyes dipped to her lap again. Once more thing, she supposed, just to get it out of her mind: "...I was scared, Kudo-sensei. I really was." A pause. "I don't want to die anymore, not like that, not without a fight."

A confirmation of her prior behavior, her care for others overriding her own existence. She didn't feel entirely the same about that anymore, quite the change. It took staring at death in the eyes to confirm life for herself. It wasn't know if it changed anything concerning the darkness lurking in her, but at least she was no longer seeking an end. Nothing more, she didn't want to speak further about it. To know if she did have questions, that she had someone she could ask, it made her feel better in an intangible sense, maybe because Kudo wasn't as cold as she usually was.

And speaking of:

"I wish you would not feel the need to act so frightened and worried about my presence. It is unnecessary."

Another slight blush crossed the girl's face. She usually did try to hide it - once again, people that knew her well enough how much of a terrible liar she was.

"I...just never like to disappoint you or make you angry." Or anyone really, the girl really did walk on eggshells unnecessarily. But Amber did smile, a drained and shy one but it was a first since walking in the office. "I knew what I did was quite troublesome, so I was extra jumpy."

"I...just never like to disappoint you or make you angry. I knew what I did was quite troublesome, so I was extra jumpy."

"You don't disappoint me." Not anymore, anyway. Kudo spoke as though this were common knowledge. If she had been disappointed, she would have said so; thus was the nature of the teacher's direct behaviour.

"As for being scared of the inevitable," She said, referring to her previous comments about her new found feelings on death and appreciation for life, "Each day is not a given right. It is when you treat it as such that you lose appreciation for your own life. It will end when it ends; rather than waiting for that to happen, seize the opportunities in front of you while they are still available." Amaya chose to leave her statement open to interpretation; only Amber would truly understand the options that were on the table for her in every aspect of her life.

But of course, Kudo knew what she referred to. "Even feeling fear is something." She spoke outwardly again; Amber was privy to this sudden change in the naturally hard woman's demeanor. Amaya allows her hand to discontinue holding her chin, extending it to the girl at her side. "Give me your Aeon." She ordered. When the winged girl would comply, the dark eyed woman would appear to tap the screen a number of times before handing it back to her. "Here is my number. If the nightmares and visions persist, do not hesitate to call." This truly was a new development.

"Regardless of the circumstances, I will come for you if you need me."

"You don't disappoint me."

Another wave of relief, though the talk they just had did make that clear enough. Amber maybe should have known Kudo would have been more vocal about disappointment, but she couldn't help but feel it was something silent, more deeper. But that wasn't the case either, so again, best to not overreact to the best of her teenaged ability.

"As for being scared of the inevitable...Each day is not a given right. It is when you treat it as such that you lose appreciation for your own life. It will end when it ends; rather than waiting for that to happen, seize the opportunities in front of you while they are still available."

Poetic enough but it was still what it was. No longer focused on eliminating herself, Amber could actually take the time to figure things out. She still had school, still had time to better her abilties, better connect with others...she was no longer dead, after all. To know fear in itself reinforced life in her again, it was just unpleasant to know to that degree.

Amber appeared puzzled at the request of her Aeon, but she hands it over to her, watching on curiously as Kudo taps the screen. Not quite knowing what she was doing but her patience would pay off once it was handed back to her.

"Here is my number. If the nightmares and visions persist, do not hesitate to call." Surprise crossed her dark eyes. This...was quite a development. "Regardless of the circumstances, I will come for you if you need me."

Amber clasped the Aeon quietly, hiding her lips behind the device. Her brain felt blank. What was she supposed to say? To be a bother if she needed to be-no, she couldn't think that way. The whole reason to do this was because she wasn't a bother to Kudo, so to say otherwise would be a note of disrespect. The winged girl just smiled, resigned to accepting the offer without doubting, to have another trusted backup if she needed it.

"Okay." Softly spoken. Upon standing up, Amber felt like she could rightfully collapse. The entirety of the experience drained her a lot more than she hope, a frustrating condition to deal with. "Ah, I think I need to rest after all. Thank you for seeing me, Kudo-sensei."

"Okay."

Kudo had stood up along side her, looking down to the girl with a curious glance. A coursing moment through her form asked her to move in some kind of way; to offer something as a gesture of good faith. Amaya seemed to twitch slightly in her hands. They moved out for a second, barely an inch away from her form before she stopped herself.

"Ah, I think I need to rest after all. Thank you for seeing me, Kudo-sensei."

"Right." Amaya replied. After another moment of sheer silence, she allowed one of her arms to move finally. It went outstretched to the girl and rested gently on her shoulder. To catch her attention. In that moment when Kudo would catch her eye, she would offer the most reassurance she could muster in a smile; possibly the rarest sight known to the universe of this woman's existence. Seconds felt like they bled into minutes, though this image had only lasted for a breath or two.

Glad to see you breathing. She had thought, but found it not imperative to voice.

She released her hold, stepping harshly away and back towards her desk. Amaya sat quickly and retrieved her glasses, perching them on the bridge of her nose before she returned to her paper work. "Thank you. You may go."

Amber moved to politely take her leave in that silence that befell between them, a touch unsteady in her steps. The idea of just collapsing onto her bed sounded wonderful after this undertaking, but the problem that permeated was addressed through perserverance. One less thing to weigh on her mind, or far less considering how much she let flow from her.

A touch of her shoulder, the winged girl stopped and looked. Was there something else she missed? Did she have something else to say?

Wait. Had that been...a smile out of Kudo? Amber wasn't sure, the moment that was so rare felt brief yet it burned into her memory. So fleeting and before she knew it, Kudo released her.

"Thank you. You may go."

Thank her? For what? Had that all just been an illusion? Amber blinked, looking down at the Aeon still in her hands. No, it couldn't be, the traces of their talk present to her, the number to reach her in need be. The girl took a few steps to the door to take her leave again, then looked over her shoulder.

"The glasses are cute, Kudo-sensei." Amber says with a cheerful smile and slips out of the office.
