She finally had made her way to the gym, normally she only came here late at night, but she needed to calm herself. Nothing was more calming then Lucas, but he was... angry at her... so she'd come here instead. Damion purred comfortingly to the girl and she just sighed, rubbing his head.

"Things will be okay." She said to him, but she really didn't know that for sure. Still, there was no sense in the feline worrying over it, it was something that would just have to work things out in time. She wore a simple, black leotard, and a bag of chalk powder was in one hand. The girl moved towards the well kept, if seldom used, balance beam in the back of the room and she smiled at it. The balance beam was an old friend she welcomed the sight.

The cat curled up under it, having no fear of Zxaine falling on him, he would be calling the shots. She needed a workout, not to just play on it. He waited while the girl got ready, rubbing the chalk agaisnt her feet and legs before rubbing her hands in a good layer as well. She looked at Damion.

"Mount handstand into full turn."

She smiled, he always knew what things she liked to do. Walking to the bar she ran her fingers across it, feeling the coarseness of it. She leapt up, fingers gripping the beam, into a full handstand, lingering like that for a moment before going into a full split and turning slowly. The motion was graceful and delicate, and before long her feet were planted firmly on the bar. She started getting used to the feeling of it, dip one shoulder, leg horizontal pirouette. As she reached the other side of the bar Damion finally spoke up.

"Backflip, backflip, twisting layout."

Her hair, which should have been in the way, was pulled up in a tight bun to keep her from catching it and falling. She was in motion, arching backwards in a powerful, graceful motion, hands against the bar, feet, hands, feet. Truly the backflips were nothing special, what she did last was. She leapt backwards, her body twisting around 360 degrees, hands not touching the beam and she landed on the other end of the beam, wobbling a bit as she tried to get her center of gravity back. Pose. Good. She wasn't world class athlete quality, but she was good enough in her opinion.

"arial cartweel, layout, step out, layout"

She really was quite good, anyone who watched her would be able to see that while she wasn't much of a fighter, that didn't mean she wasn't physically strong, instead, her strength was in things like this. Graceful tumbling on a 3" beam of wood. This was something she didn't do for anyone but herself, that she no longer really let other people see. What she did to unwind.

What was Dayne doing in a gym? had the world turned upside down? Was it opposite day? A pod person? Maybe the tech savvy girl had finally cracked the clone equation? If you thought any of these it would be understandable, because they were all more likely then the introvert willingly stepping foot inside the physical excersice hub of the school.

But, today was a special day.

Today, she was testing her range. And this was the perfect room for that. She'd gotten her stuff ready: an electric car, a small notebook computer, a palm pilot, and of course her new best friend, the Aeon. having gotten out of her way too restrictive uniform the minute she could (and unable to shake the feeling that the ants were watching her get changed) Dayne had checked and double checked the co-ordinates of the gymnasiam beofre grabbing her bag and teleporting in.

Someone was already there, but Dayne didn't mind. Watching the gymnastics with mild interest, , she walked over to the far end of the room and set down her electric car. Folding her legs and closing her eyes, she switched the car on easily and started to operate it with her mind.

forward. Go. Faster. Left.

So far so go-

As the car moved over the mat her concentration slipped. There was a huge cat right there. Right there. In the room. How had that happened? Fascinating... it was clearly meant for a warmer climet, how did it cope here? While her mind was distracted, the car started to do loops around the new object of her attention, coming to a stop next to the cat's paw. Dayne frowned slightly, and tried to call it back. It came the most direct route possible, over the lepard's paw. "Sorry, didn't mean to!" she called to the large animal, not sure if it could understand her, but hey, it was a crazy school, a talking snow lepard wasn't gonna flap her any more than that half dead teacher had.

Damion had looked over when the new person had appeared in the gym, his eyes blinking a few times before he nodded his head in acknowledgement when the girl saw him.

"Back handspring into an Okino."

Zxaine was oblivious to the other person, listening only to the cat. An Okino was not something she could do well, if she pulled it off at all. So as soon as her feet were back on the bar and she got ready for the triple spin she took a breath. As she started the difficult move a voice rang out.

"Sorry, didn't mean to!"

Damion had only looked at the car as it went over his paws, but the sudden voice caused Zxaine's eyes to widen in shock. Her balance lost she toppled off the bar and sat on the floor, looking confused. Her eyes turned to Dayne and she chuckled, rubbing the back of her head.

"Hi there...." the girl waved once, embarrassed.

Feeling a faint sense of relief the giant leopard and not taken offense to being a little bit run over, Dayne swiped up her car as it zoomed back to her and switched it off. She was turning back with her Aeon set on camera to take a picture (her mom would love it, she seemed to enjoy cat related things) when the girl hit the mat with a thump. The technopath froze, eyes on the viewfinder. Yes, she'd captured her mid fall. Huh.

The part of Dayne's mind that reminded her to use facial expressions and to laugh at people's jokes politely nudged her to remind the girl that if someone fell it was considered proper to help them up, or as if they were hurt. Plus she could get closer to the leopard. Trudging over, she braced her hands on her skinny legs and bent forward to look at Zxaine. There was no blood that she could see, and there was no screaming. "You're not hurt then?" Dayne asked, just to make sure. After waiting for a response, she nodded and held out a hand to help the other girl up before straightened, stretching out her back and looking at the leopard until it was willing to look at her. Then, with the air of someone who had been holding back just to be good and could finally do what she really wanted, she dropped to her knees and stared.

"Is it yours?" she asked Zxaine, looking over her shoulder. "I've only seen them on the net. How did you get it out of central Asia? Does it cope well with the warm weather here? Can it talk?" she looked back to the leopard, aware that if it could talk it would be rude to speak as if it wasn't there. "Do you talk?" she repeated.

Damion waved his paw at the toy car idly, like a kitten batting at a ball of paper. He was easily amused.

You're not hurt then?"

Zxaine blinked and then chuckled, shaking her head.

"No, I'm alright. Thanks for asking." She said softly, placing her hand in the other girl's and allowing herself to be helped up. Damion trotted to the teleporter and inspected her idly, making sure she was, indeed, not hurt.

"Is it yours?"

Zxaine blinked for a moment. Is it hers? Realization dawned on her face and she nodded. Damion was most certainly hers.

"I've only seen them on the net. How did you get it out of central Asia? Does it cope well with the warm weather here? Can it talk?"

"My mother aquired it when I was 8.... I'm not sure how. I'm quite certain it was less then legal though. He seems to do well enough around here, we live in Maine where it's a bit cooler year round, he's never complained to me about it." Zxaine was unused to people being interested in her familiar, and typically the only one who acknowledged him was Lucas. Even Damion seemed a bit confused, tipping his head to one side. Then he was addressed personally, another surprise!

"Do you talk?"

He nodded his head, a motion that could not be mistaken for anything other then an agreement.

"I can, though I don't think you can understand me." He said in his normal, stuffy manner. He stood and walked to Dayne, padding around her silently. Zxaine waited to see if Dayne could understand him, when she was fairly certain she could not she finally spoke for the cat.

"He can, but unless you know the language cats speak... it's rather hard to get more then a yes or no from him. Or a shrug." She chuckled as the cat shrugged his shoulders at her to prove that he did understand. "I'm Zxaine, this is Damion." Introductions are important you know!

Watching the leopard moved, Dayne glanced at Zxaine with blank eyes before concentrating on the cat again. It wasn't that Zxaine wasn't interesting, it was just that she was not a large feline native to central Asia.

"My mother aquired it when I was 8.... I'm not sure how. I'm quite certain it was less then legal though. He seems to do well enough around here, we live in Maine where it's a bit cooler year round, he's never complained to me about it."

Accepting this explanation, Dayne straightened and stretched back as her spine creaked. "Black market," she guessed and clicked her tongue against the back of her teeth, imitating her mother's reaction to something expensive. "Cub would have been worth a lot," she nodded, then glanced at Zxaine as she swept her pale eyes over the girl. Hmm, she didn't seem to carry herself like someone from a family with the income needed to fund a black market purchase of that magnitude.

And then the cat nodded at her and Dayne folded her legs to sit facing Damion, expression as close to rapt as she got. He made a bunch of snuffly mewing noises then moved away, and the technopath followed his movement with her head until she was twisted around entirely and viewing him mostly upside down from her new position half lying on the floor with her back twisted. Unwinding herself and sitting straight again, she fixed the full force of her 'I want to learn about you' stare on Zxaine.

"He can, but unless you know the language cats speak... it's rather hard to get more then a yes or no from him. Or a shrug."

Damn it, all Dayne could speak was English, a bit of Spanish and Binary. Not Cat. Where there classes? For a moment, her eyes went completely blank as she did a quick search online. No, no classes. Wait! "You should teach him Morse code!" she said, aware of that slight increase in heartbeat that indicated she was excited. "He could tap it with his paw."

"I'm Zxaine, this is Damion."

Blinking, it took her a moment to realise why they had moved away from the far more interesting subject of feline human communication to something as boring as names. "Dayne," she muttered offhandedly, then suddenly sprang up and ran to her bag, coming back with her equipment. "Do you talk to all felines or just Damion? Or just snow leopards?" She'd used as many words as she used to average in a week back home. Her parents would have to be impressed now.

"Black market,"

Zxaine shrugged, her mother would know better then she would. She had been just a child. To her, Damion had just been a lovely pet to her. A fluffy kitten just for her. Though the bonding process hurt terribly.

"Cub would have been worth a lot,"

"Unless she stole it, I wouldn't put that past her either." She responded quietly, her mother was unpredictable. Had been for a long time. She noticed how Dayne looked her over and wondered idly what she's looking at.

Damion watched Dayne with interest, the girl was a different one. His head twisted as she turned upside down, finally settling to licking his forepaw idly. This girl was different, it was interesting. Zxaine merely sat nearby, stretching and thinking of the possiblity of attempting the beam again. However she soon became acutely aware of someone looking at her, she looked over at Dayne curiously.

"Did you want to ask me something?" She blinked a bit.

"You should teach him Morse code! He could tap it with his paw."

"I'd learn I suppose." The cat blinked and swayed his tail.

"Well, I don't know Morse code.... but if you want to teach him, he says he's willing to give it a try." The girl shrugged, the cat being able to speak might be useful later. Who knows.

"Dayne,"

And then the girl was away, returning with computer equipment moments later. The other girl blinked, not really knowing what was going on, but she didn't find anything to strange in this place. She merely looked on, Damion walking around Dayne and sniffing at his equipment idly.

"Do you talk to all felines or just Damion? Or just snow leopards?"

"Hn? Well I haven't met a cat I can't speak to yet, but I hesitate to say all. Damion and a cougar named Tiger across the hall seem to be the extent of my normal feline conversation." She paused. "What are you doing?" Her curiousity was obvious.

"Well, I don't know Morse code.... but if you want to teach him, he says he's willing to give it a try."

Dayne nodded, and her eyes glazed over for a moment as she quickly looked up the sequence and filed it away. "Ok, so alphabet. I don't know if snow leopards can spell, but it's like this." She tapped her hand against the floor once quickly, then again and paused. "A" she said, then tapped once, waited a beat and tapped three times quickly, "B". Tap, pause, quick tap, tap, pause, quick tap: "C." Tap, pause, two quick taps; "D". Quick tap; "E". Two quick taps, tap, pause, quick tap; "F". Tap, pause, tap, pause, quick tap; "G." Four quick taps; "H." Two quick taps; "I." Quick tap, tap, pause, tap, pause, tap, pause; "J."

She went through the alphabet then also tapped out the letters and punctuation. There. Easy as pi. Not the baking kind; that was not easy. "So, now, if I asked you, ah," Dayne racked her brain for the right small talk question, realizing that she wanted to ask questions that were mostly complex at best and that he was still learning. 'What do you eat here?" she settled for, which would give her data and hopefully could be answered relatively easily.

"Hn? Well I haven't met a cat I can't speak to yet, but I hesitate to say all. Damion and a cougar named Tiger across the hall seem to be the extent of my normal feline conversation....What are you doing?"

"Hmm?" Dayne hummed, looking up as she pried the antenna off her electric car. "Experiments in my range and in duel operation of my speech and ability. Since this is remote controlled it's another variable so I am eliminating it." Wasn't that obvious? She set the car down and turned back to Zxaine. Slowly, the car started to trundle away slowly, going in a straight line. "So now I am going to try and talk to you, and control it at the same time." Her voice had lost the inflections she worked hard to include, turning monotonous and flat. "It's like patting your head and rubbing your tummy, I guess."

"Ok, so alphabet. I don't know if snow leopards can spell, but it's like this."

She didn't quite get that Damion was more intelligent then most snow leopards were, it came with the territory of sharing a soul with Zxaine. The cat watched her do the alphabet with an interested expression on his face. His ears twitched every so often as they went from A to Z. Once done he nodded his head once, that seemed easy enough for now. He'd have to practice of course but he was sure he'd get it sooner or later.

'What do you eat here?"

He paused and tipped his head, thinking. There were many things he ate here. For now he picked one of his breakfast favorites. He lifted his right paw and watched it, so that he could be sure he did it right. Now he wasn't the best at spelling, but this was a fairly easy word and he remembered it from Zxaine's early home-schooling.

R. A. B. B. I. T.

He thought he may have messed up on the R and the I but he hoped it would get across to the girl. He stopped and set his paw back down, looking at Dayne expectantly. Zxaine had been watching Dayne the whole time, blinking at the girl's antics and not sure whether or not the girl was just being a bit off or if destroying the toy had meaning.

"Experiments in my range and in duel operation of my speech and ability. Since this is remote controlled it's another variable so I am eliminating it."

"Oh, I see." She nodded and resumed stretching idly, it seemed she was not needed for this little exercise anyways.

"So now I am going to try and talk to you, and control it at the same time."

Again he lifted his paw and did just two letters.

O. K.

"Mistress, are you not going to watch, this is actually fairly interesting."

"Naw, you have fun Damion, it's good for you to have someone else to talk to." The girl swung onto the beam and lounged on it lazily, pondering doing something more.

Supermarket or wild? Where there rabbits in the forest? How many did he eat? Dayne blinked until the questions cleared and nodded. "I don't think I've ever eaten Rabbit," she said slowly, but then she imagined he ate it raw and she really hadn't done that. Though it was only chicken that could make you sick if you ate it raw so she probably would, if it was a survival thing...

Where was she?

The girl, the gymnast cat woman with the sort of reddish hair, was starting to get that slight slackening of her facial muscles that meant whatever it was Dayne was doing it was either strange, boring (to other people) or that she had tuned out herself.

"Naw, you have fun Damion, it's good for you to have someone else to talk to."

"You don't communicate with the other students at all?" she asked, then glanced up to where Zxaine had moved started to drift away.

The technopath narrowed her eyes slightly and glanced at Damion. Had she not made enough eye contact? Her mom said that she had to work on that. Sighing, Dayne turned her eyes towards Zxaine and caught her eye, then stared. Eye contact. She was going to make eye contact and express herself and... damn. Her eyes flickered and the car started speeding up and flipping until it was doing donuts on the polished floor. "The balance is tricky," she muttered, and glanced at the balance beam. "Do you help each other do that?" she asked curiously. That was about balance, wasn't it? A practical personification of what she was attempting to do with different centres of the brain. Would it help?

"I don't think I've ever eaten Rabbit,"

Zxaine glanced over as Dayne spoke about not trying rabbit, smiling a bit.

"It's actually very tasty, if done right. If you're interested in trying some, the next time I make rabbit I'll bring you some." the girl was actually a pretty good cook, someone in her family had to be. Her mother was good in the kitchen, but she often forgot about mealtimes.

"You don't communicate with the other students at all?"

She paused, then shook her head a bit. Knowing she must have come across as uninterested. Which wasn't the case, she merely assumed Dayne was more interested in Damion.

"Well, it's not that I don't talk to the other students, it's more the other students don't normally talk to me. I'm the kind of person you either love.... or you hate... and a few students here reeeeeeeeally hate me." She sighed and placed her hands on the bar, pushing into a handstand before doing a back bend into a standing position. "Needless to say, it makes me... hesitant." she finished slowly, watching the other girl.

"Do you help each other do that?"

"More, he makes sure I don't just play around. Damion knows all the flips I can do, and some I can't... and he picks a few. If I can do them, awesome... If I can't... well usually I fall if I can't. Earlier, when I fell, he told me to do an Okino... probably one of the hardest turns you can do on a beam." She smiled and dipped low, one of her legs swinging down to brush across his back. "He helps me blow off steam by challenging me." Zxaine sat on the beam again. She reached her hand towards Dayne, intending to pull her up. "Balance is all in your mind, the beam is all about defeating your mind. If you can't, you fall. Come on up?"

"You cook here?" Dayne asked, sounding a little surprised. Since she saw food as fuel, to be consumed when she was low on energy, as fast as possible. Taste was never an issue so the food at the cafeteria was fine as far as she was concerned. She had a kettle and at least a month's worth of ramen noodles in her room under her bed in an ant proof container for when she forgot and got really hungry late at night. "Ok." That meant she would be seeing her again, so that made her probably the closest thing Dayne had done to making some sort of connection, apart from that girl in Science who seemed to agree that they were in a mad house.

"Well, it's not that I don't talk to the other students, it's more the other students don't normally talk to me. I'm the kind of person you either love.... or you hate... and a few students here reeeeeeeeally hate me."

Dayne blinked slowly, mouthing an elongated really to try and see what it was supposed to mean. A lot, probably. Sort of like she had repeated really a few times and then blurred them all together. "That's all very extreme," she said, and then glanced at her remote car which had finally stopped moving. Zxaine was doing a handstand on the bar. Why was she doing that? Twisting her head to look at her, Dayne frowned slightly as she watched the blood flow respond to gravity and

"Needless to say, it makes me... hesitant."

"Oh, I won't hate you." Dayne said in an attempt to be reassuring, in case that was what she was worried about. "I don't do that." She didn't really do love either. Or, well, any extreme thing. It got in the way of rational, logical thinking and she honestly wasn't sure she could remember how. Then, after offering a rather unnatural bright smile to finish, she turned back to the leopard. "Most animals produce the same neural chemicals as humans so I already know you experience emotions as we know them. Do you get angry or is it more an instinctual predator thing?"

"More, he makes sure I don't just play around. Damion knows all the flips I can do, and some I can't... and he picks a few. If I can do them, awesome... If I can't... well usually I fall if I can't. Earlier, when I fell, he told me to do an Okino... probably one of the hardest turns you can do on a beam... He helps me blow off steam by challenging me..Balance is all in your mind, the beam is all about defeating your mind. If you can't, you fall. Come on up?"

After waiting for Damion's answer, Dayne shrugged and took Zxaine's hand, climbing onto the beam without any semblance of co-ordination. "A triple pirroette, that's considered olypmic level. The average human musculatory system isn't..." she tried to stand up and wobbled badly, lowering back down to sit. "This seems unnatural," she said slowly, eyes wide and for once fully focused on what she was doing. "Defeating my mind seems counter productive. What does that mean? I'm not good at understanding non literal ideas." Any thought of her car was pushed back as she tried to stand again, the Aeon a comforting buzz in her pocket to keep her from drifting.

"You cook here?"

She shook her head. There was no place here she knew of that would let her use the stoves. If she wanted to cook she had to go home.

"No. I have to go home to cook, but it's a quick journey." she smiled. "Quicker then a heartbeat." She disappeared moments later, reappearing on the floor. She flashed a smile at Dayne and hopped back up, taking a seat.

"Oh, I won't hate you.

That earned the other girl a bright smile, it finally reaching her eyes. It was nice to hear that some people weren't going to hate her.

"Thanks." She hopped into a standing position and Damion roared quietly in approval.

"A triple pirroette, that's considered olypmic level. The average human musculatory system isn't..." She nodded, she couldn't do an Okino, she was lucky to get a double. She smiled confidently to Dayne who seemed to struggle even standing on the beam. It takes practice, but it was something the brunette enjoyed. "This seems unnatural, Defeating my mind seems counter productive. What does that mean? I'm not good at understanding non literal ideas."

"I person's mind is the most common reason people fail. It overrides your confidence, your drive, and your will to carry on. When you mess up the brain tells you to give up, by defeating your mind you learn to persevere and gain new confidence in your own natural abilities." She looked so comfortable, standing on one foot, the other to one side, toes pointed to the floor. "By challenging yourself, you learn how to get over the things that your mind throws in your way. Fear of falling is a common one for the beam. I used to be terrified of falling." You wouldn't know by looking at her now. But everyone starts somewhere.

Instant matter transferal! Dayne nodded, eyes flicking between where Zxaine was and where she had reappeared. She could cross state boundaries with that? Very interesting... though it did occur to the technopath that she could do something similar with her Aeon, just... not as far. And with nausea. Still, worth taking note of.

Accepting the thanks, Dayne didn't let her bemusement show. It wasn't like Zxaine knew that Dayne couldn't really hate anything without having to really, really, really try all the time and that was just a waste of brain power. Instead she just turned her own smile up a notch until the girl had turned away, then rubbed at her cheek absently. Still, Zxaine seemed nice, and hadn't once called her odd or strange so she was worth the strange muscle manipulation that seemed to be needed to grin like anyone else.

Back to the bar. The long bit of polished wood that logically no human would have to walk across outside of a video game. The bar and Dayne were not getting along. Not one little bit.

"I person's mind is the most common reason people fail. It overrides your confidence, your drive, and your will to carry on. When you mess up the brain tells you to give up, by defeating your mind you learn to persevere and gain new confidence in your own natural abilities."

Dayne stood up slowly again and looked across at Zxaine in confusion. "I don't understand," she said honestly. "Is that literal? Do you mean the logical process of 'a human being is not meant to walk along a little bit of wood?'" She glanced down at Damion, the slight head movement disrupting her balance enough to make her wobble. Teaching him morse code had been so much more in her comfort zone... But no. That was why she was doing this. To get better at multitasking and balancing her abilities.

"By challenging yourself, you learn how to get over the things that your mind throws in your way. Fear of falling is a common one for the beam. I used to be terrified of falling."

"It's only four, maybe five feet," she pointed out and looked down. It did seem a little farther from that angle... Her arms stuck out on either side of her like a kid being an airplane, Dayne directed her lavender eyes back to her new teacher. She was wobbling less now as her body got used to what was going on.. "Ok. My mind doesn't work like most people's, I don't think I can rewire it like that," she confessed, after trying for a moment to... well, have her confidence not be overridden. Dayne didn't have confidence in that way. She just knew logically that balancing on this thing was hard, and that she had not had much practice. A pity gymnastics defied logic and rationality.

"Ok. My mind doesn't work like most people's, I don't think I can rewire it like that,"

"You did it when you learned to walk. Unless you forgot how to put one foot in front of the other, you aren't making any sense." Eddie had said, laughing as she walked over towards where Zxaine had been. She'd never gotten the chance to actually thank her in person for looking after the cougar that followed hot on her heels, so she thought now would be as good a time as any if she were able to find her. After searching around a few places she finally found where she had been hiding. And they were talking about balance? Well! She must have stumbled in at just the right time.

Eddie raised a hand to Zxaine; a process of waving without actually doing it. "Yo~ I've been looking for you." She had said, her other hand sitting by her side as Tiger ran her nose along the palm of her owner before taking off at the presence of Damion. After all, spending all that time with Damion meant that they were as much friends as Zxaine and Eddie had become. Perhaps more so. She made a point to nuzzle into the next of the familiar. Eddie stopped walking near her friend, she looked up to the person on the beam. "What're you doing here?" She asked Zxaine, her eyes flicking back to her. Her smile a broadened a little with amusement as she could only assume with what she walked into.

Zxaine looked utterly confused as to how to explain it better, she rubbed the back of her head idly, trying to figure out a better way.

"Well..."

"You did it when you learned to walk. Unless you forgot how to put one foot in front of the other, you aren't making any sense."

She turned to Eddie and smiled, someone she knew, yay! Her eyes went to Tiger and she inclined her head to the cougar. Damion yowled and ran towards the other large cat, rearing up one his hind legs and pouncing the other cat with a playful growl. This would likely turn into a playful romping session for the two felines and Zxaine giggled softly.

"Yo~ I've been looking for you."

"Oh. I'm sorry. I got so .... caught up in everything." She chuckled and let her hair down, she was likely done with her tumbling anyways. Too many people anyways. "What's up?"

"Ok. My mind doesn't work like most people's, I don't think I can rewire it like that,"

Eh? She blinked a few times and tried to think, looking up at the roof. She didn't know how to explain more... she always just.... told her brain to shut up and did it! She barely had to think about it anymore. she sighed softly.

"What're you doing here?"

"Burning off some steam. That's all." she moved to her bag and pulled a pair of gym pants on slowly, letting them hang loosely on her hips.

"You did it when you learned to walk. Unless you forgot how to put one foot in front of the other, you aren't making any sense."

Dayne's eyes flickered towards whoever had just come in. Yes, that was an excellent point, though she doubted that her baby mind had worked the way hers did now. Still, she nodded and tried to...

Oh good lord was that another huge cat? The fact she was on a beam forgotten, the technopath pivoted on one foot to look as the cougar (she thought it looked like a cougar anyway) and Damion rushed to meet each other. Her phone was out and taking pictures in an instant, her feet still squarely on the beam. Did this one talk too? Or at least understand english?

Yo~ I've been looking for you."

"Oh. I'm sorry. I got so .... caught up in everything... What's up?"

"Zxaine was teaching me about balance..." Dayne started to explain, when Zxaine jumped down and started getting changed. Oh. Well, she had been anyway. Did that mean that a) she was unteachable, b) her questions were frustrating or c) the arrival of someone new had given the snow leopard girl something better to do.

"Burning off some steam. That's all."

Based on that answer it seemed to be c. Dayne didn't get off the beam just yet, glancing down and realizing when she'd been concentrating on capturing the fighting cats she'd been able to move without wobbling so much. That was something, wasn't it? But if seemed her teacher was done with teaching for now. "Are you a gymnast too?" she asked the new girl curiously. She'd commented on balance and had a big cat, after all. "And what's your feline's name? I'm Dayne."

Because yes, introductions were indeed good.

"Zxaine was teaching me about balance..."

"She's not doing a great job. Eh, Z?" Eddie had asked, offering her friend a smirk within the moment. "For someone who doesn't understand the clear concept of the body, you're doing a pretty good job now, aren't you." Eddie added, noting that she found some balance in her interest in the two felines and that had caused her to suddenly, magically maintain a focus long enough to not fall apart like jelly in the sun. Her eyes narrowed at the thought. "Thanks for the accommodation over the break. Can you tell it was appreciated?" She motioned towards the two felines in their might, watching idly as they played and enjoyed the company. "It was good to get her back, but I think she misses yours." Cat friends? Yes please.

"Are you a gymnast too? And what's your feline's name? I'm Dayne."

Oh that's right; the second entity. Lucky for her she spoke, or the two of them might have ended up talking about the break for a fair amount of time. "Eddie." She greeted, raising a hand to her too. Wait. What was it that she'd done again? Oh right. Eddie's eyes narrowed again. Some lines had been crossed far too early in this meeting. "Don't take pictures of my friend." She called, motioning towards her faithful. "I don't take pictures of you looking like a douche on a bar. That wouldn't be nice." But she raised a hand, waving it idly as if to brush the thought away. Like it hadn't even happened. "Not a gymnast. The balance and movement of a feline is in my blood." She explained, wondering if it would make sense to her or not. No matter.

She laughed nervously. She hadn't really done much to teach anything, getting across her concept of how to overcome the fear that came with the beam just hadn't worked at all.

"I'm afraid I'm not much of a teacher." She chuckled. The girl reached hand up towards Dayne, willing to help her down if she needed it. Her eyes went to Tiger and Damion and she smiled at them, playing just as they had back at her home.

"It was good to get her back, but I think she misses yours."

"Oh, not a worry. She had a lot of fun on my mother's land, and her and Damion got along wonderful." She smiled brightly, "Any time you need someone to watch her, just let me know. I'd be happy to take care of her."

"Don't take pictures of my friend. I don't take pictures of you looking like a douche on a bar. That wouldn't be nice."

She blinked. She hadn't even really noticed the picture taking before, she was oblivious to it since in her first year here lots of people had taken her picture. Well that is before her REPUTATION was built. She just didn't take note of that kinda stuff anymore. The teleporter sighed and reached into her bag, grabbing a bottle of water and taking a drink as she hopped into a seated position on the beam with a careless grace.

"Like I said. The beam is all about beating your brain into believing that you can't fall." she mused again.

Looking down, Dayne nodded and actually smiled properly. All she needed to do was to completely engage her cognitive processing else where, and her body's natural warning signals would be obscured! How could she apply this to her abilities and multitasking though... Maybe if she could learn to filter the communications without having to pay attention to them.. That would be worth investigating!

"I'm afraid I'm not much of a teacher."

Accepting the hand, Dayne hopped down and landed with a graceless thud. "It was helpful," she said honestly, "Thank you." Filing the name Eddie, Dayne was more focused on the cats. But then she seemed to do something wrong again.

"Don't take pictures of my friend...I don't take pictures of you looking like a douche on a bar. That wouldn't be nice."

Dutifully Dayne stopped and shoved her phone in her pocket. Still, that comparison meant nothing to her. She didn't drink at bars, and how was that like taking a photo of a large cat? Was she indicating it was somehow embarrassing? That didn't make much sense, since there was nothing embarrassing that she could tell about having a bloody huge cougar hanging around. And now she had some photos anyway so it didn't really matter.

"Not a gymnast. The balance and movement of a feline is in my blood."

That was interesting. Nodding, the technopath glanced at the two actual felines present and back. "So there is less having to tell your mind to be quiet, since you know you can do it?" she asked, trying to figure out what 'in my blood' meant as far as DNA. Did she have cat DNA? Because that would mean...

"Like I said. The beam is all about beating your brain into believing that you can't fall."

"But cats know they won't fall," Dayne said again, trying to keep up with everything. "Right?"

The things that went on during the break were things she'd have to hear about later, it seemed. Though Eddie would be sure to take her up on the offer of caring for her. Looking back over, she could see how much the cougar had missed being around her friend; the playful tackles and nips against her companion, see who might best the other in this round. She laughed slightly as a thought popped into her head. "Might have to install a cat door for our rooms if you don't mind." This was a project that they could embark on! And by they, Eddie probably meant she would do it without Zxaine's permission and she'd wake up to just find it there. Heh.

"Like I said. The beam is all about beating your brain into believing that you can't fall."

With that, Eddie pressed her hands against the beam and shot up to sit next to her friend. She and Zxaine had the same skills but in completely different ways.

"But cats know they won't fall. Right?"

Eddie sighed, pinching the skin between her eyes for a moment before looking back again. It wasn't that Zxaine was a bad teacher, it was that Dayne was a literal student. Normal phrasing didn't work. Eddie herself was a logic minded individual, but this was a clear new level. This required more tact, and Eddie had to think on whether Zxaine had realised that. A brief pat on her shoulder. "You got powers- Abilities, right?" Saying the word powers made her feel too Bayville High for her liking. "Zxaine can do stuff of her own merit and skills. I do it through an ability. But they're not as different as it sounds. Don't go too literal here. If I'm not careful or smart, I'll fall. Regardless of where your skills come from, you have to practice before you're good at it. We've both fallen our share of times. But nine times out of ten I'll land on my feet. I don't think Zxaine's that lucky." She said, nudging the girl with her shoulder as if to tag her in.

Dayne nodded, folding her arms over her head. "That makes much more sense," she agreed and shrugged her shoulders. It was always a little frustrating when people said things like 'don't be so literal'. She was literal. It was how her mind worked. She wasn't about to rewire her entire thought process, and anyway it seemed highly unlikely she could "My abilities tie into literal. It's how I think. Can't just turn it off."

She watched the two girls now seated on the beam with open curiosity, then shrugged. "I thought that learning to balance on that thing might encourage the two hemispheres of my brain to be able to focus on using my ability while doing another task," she explained, sitting on the mat and turning to watch the two great cats. No photos this time. "I have issues with concentration."

Which reminded her... The car. And her gear. Dayne glanced down at the remote controlled toy and sent it off again, frowning as she turned back to Eddie. "I understand about practice. That makes more sense to me then defeating my mind or beating my brain."

"I get by." She smiled jokingly at her friend, eyes drifting to look over at Damion and Tiger where they rested nearby.

"My abilities tie into literal. It's how I think. Can't just turn it off."

She blinked then smiled.

"Maybe that's the problem, you're thinking too much.... or maybe too hard." Zxaine offered. She did her best when her mind was clear, too many thoughts were a distraction. "Focusing too hard has always thrown me off balance. Have you tried meditation? Or perhaps Tai Chi?"

"I understand about practice. That makes more sense to me then defeating my mind or beating my brain."

The point, it was lost. Oh well. It wasn't that important. Practice was about rewiring the brain to make something commonplace within it. How was that not a defeat of the mind? You're tricking it into doing something it wasn't originally programmed to do. Maybe she wasn't explaining it right. She was thinking of ways to continue the conversation when her Aeon went off. Her alarm. She was supposed to meet with her mother for supper. Inward groan.

"Try meditation before you start practicing. Clear your mind of any other thought processes, dedicate yourself to the task at hand before you even start." She offered, tapping the Aeon's screen to turn off the alarm.

"My abilities tie into literal. It's how I think. Can't just turn it off."

A blink. One she apparently shared with Zxaine. But rather than a smile, she gave a stare. Zxaine spoke of some simple techniques that most use when they can't stop thinking about things. Eddie didn't even know what her abilities were, so she had nothing to base an opinion off. "You used to think without them." She commented; after all, it was rare that someone started with their abilities from birth.

"I understand about practice. That makes more sense to me then defeating my mind or beating my brain."

"Nothing will happen if you don't try." Eddie said. With nothing to base her comment off in the physical realm of her knowledge, she jumped onto aspect of the same topic. "You talk like you've already failed. Not going to get anywhere if you do that." She mused on the subject, bringing her legs up to cross them as she allowed her feet to tuck underneath to give her more support. Shooting down ideas before even trying was a sure way to defeat. An idle glance at Zxaine's Aeon. An alarm to see her mother, or something. Then a glance to the two enlarged cat's together.

She'd probably want to go with if Zxaine was going back home.

"Maybe that's the problem, you're thinking too much.... or maybe too hard... Focusing too hard has always thrown me off balance. Have you tried meditation? Or perhaps Tai Chi?"

Dayne's head turned to stare at Zxaine, eyes blank. "I appreciate the suggestion," she said automatically,"but part of my ability is that there is a constant stream of texts, satellite signals, phone calls, emails, and so on, traveling through my brain. At all times. Meditation requires a still mind. " Still, she smiled back because even she could register Zxaine was making an effort. "Thanks though," she added again. "It is an interesting suggestion."

"You used to think without them."

"Yes," Dayne agreed, turning to the cat girl. "I remember it, vaguely. Were you always able to fall on your feet?" She shook her head, frowning slightly. She was aware that her behavior, hell, her mind had changed as she had become used to her abilities, but it was like looking at a shrinking door. The more her abilities grew, the harder it was to imagine thinking without them. And sometimes she couldn't imagine at all. "The way my mind works now suits what I can do. I do not think I could change it even if I wanted to."

"You talk like you've already failed. Not going to get anywhere if you do that."

That got her attention, and for a moment her eyes focused, before they turned blank again. Behind her, the car did figure eights. "No," she disagreed, no venom in her tone, "I was trying to explain that that wording did not make sense to me. Nothing to do with failure. I intend to try again." It was an odd assumption to make, and Dayne made a note to check if her attitude could be considered defeatist. That was not what was wanted, no, not at all. How did she talk as if she had already failed, anyway? Wouldn't someone who had already failed just not talk about it?

"Try meditation before you start practicing. Clear your mind of any other thought processes, dedicate yourself to the task at hand before you even start."

She frowned and scratched her head, then shrugged. "Can't hurt," she agreed, "I'll research it."

The alarm was obviously for something, and she wondered if Zxaine was going to leave. It seemed likely the other girl would, as those two were clearly already connected. It didn't bother her; she could try walking on the beam again and work on memorizing Morse code. But it wouldn't bother her if they stayed either. She would remain unbothered.
