Amber fades into existence, finding herself staring at the treetops filtering bright stars while she waited for her friends to join her. Upon a few moments of observation, she realizes the strangeness of the campus itself. It was close to the city of Buffalo New York, yet visible was the clearest crisp of night permeating with late blooming flowers. She could see more stars then one ever could being close enough to the city, as if MHS had its own piece of sky. The treetops brush and brustles and bright goldenrods huddled underneath the trees sway and dance like fanciful wheat in the cool autumn breeze. Peaceful. One of the few nights where there were no signs of danger, but still was no reason to let one's guard down. Amber learned that on enough occasions. While she waited, Amber walks over towards the goldenrod patches and simply looked. Wands of sunbursts and sunshine is what she thought of, like Ada-sensei and very unlike the draining colors of fall as the world all knew of the sleep was coming. She never liked the color, too bright, too cheerful. A wind's sway and movement catches her eye, a sway of the color purple, the obvious attraction to the nephlet. She kneeled for a closer look to find a small patch of wild aster among the goldenrods. Amber reached and pulls one flower with a crisp snap and examines it closely. From the center were rays of amethyst petals, soft and smooth to touch; and yet so hardy where and when it can grow. "Lovely..." |

After the short conversation with Mazohyst, Emerald felt a little more at ease with being around him. Amber had found out about her, for lack of a better word, hobby on accident, but if the two of them trusted each other enough to be so open, especially before Emerald, who to Mazohyst was a complete stranger (bar a few brief meetings), she had been less apprehensive about shedding light on what she does. There was regret to it, but like the piercing glow no longer so far off in the distance, it faded in and out. She appeared near Amber with eyes glued to the screen; in her worry Emerald had assumed she would send herself to the wrong location, being the novice to the invention's teleporting function she was. So there was relief that she was in the right place when she saw Amber. "Lovely..." "Agreed." She replied, as there were so few occasions where the bigger picture could be admired. |

It was definitely a lot less awkward between Emerald and Mazo. No longer was it simply 'hey, same hair and eye color' but they could actually relate now which is quite a feat considering Mazo's well...activities Mazohyst had no previous doubts or concerns regarding Emerald (odd considering how paranoid he can be at times), however it was nevertheless good to clear any awkwardness between the two. She was already proving herself to be a more likeable person than a certain person whose name begins with an 'A' and ends with a 'kai.' Mazo respected his power but definitely not his confidence whereas Emerald was much more level-headed. A light glow appears beside the two already in the forest. The glow gradually subsides, revealing Mazo in a crouched position. His eyelids are closed, concealing the amethyst jewels beneath. His eyes open as he slowly rises to his feet, his lips form into a casual smirk. Jokingly, Mazohyst began to hum the Terminator 2 theme. It was one of the few movies he watched, he had even watched it once then went out and killed someone. Pleasant thoughts. He was not sure if Amber or Emerald would pick up on the reference, not that it mattered anyway. At any rate, he looks towards the flower Amber holds. His attention flickers towards the night sky, stars were partially hidden through the foliage around them. However, their cosmic light seemed to pour through the branches and leaves of the forest. Violet eyes wander back to Amber and the flower she holds. "It's absolutely peaceful here." |

"Agreed." As far back as the nephlet could remember, she had become accustomed to the air of silence behind her, without the option of wanting to or not. Many times it would ebb with the presence of an agent of heaven or hell, so one would have to learn to pay attention. The air of loneliness behind her changed with the friendly presence of Emerald’s arrival while remarking on the flower in her fingers. Amber looks over her shoulder and greets her friend with a smile; how nice not to feel immediate fear. She raises and tips the flower for Emerald to examine. “Wild ones too. They're such resiliant little flowers to bloom so late. Want one?” The air changes as Mazohyst was the next to appear with them in a crouched position. Amber felt her stomach lurch for a moment, but held back tight the urge to ask if he was all right. He rose to his feet, humming a familiar tune from a movie she watched a few times with Ria and her brothers long ago. It may have been a while, but the tune was memorable enough to conjure a small giggle from Amber. That aside, the three of them can look around - the calm of the late autumn night, the trees that rustle just to allow the three to see the night sky. "It's absolutely peaceful here." “It always is at this time of the night.” Amber says with tender nonchalance; she wanders here often when sleep is simply out of reach for her. It’s a favorite place, few wander in to see what she is doing and there are places to hide if she hears a soul coming. The winged girl slips the amethyst flower in her hair, just over her ear where it nestles in place. “But it calls for caution. Just because it’s quiet does not mean giant rotting goo-monsters will not rise from nowhere to chase us.” A shift in her gaze to Mazohyst and an amused smile. “Ne, Mazo?” And hopefully that would not be the case this time, this was the first outing with the three of them and to have it marred by some strange pretense of monsters would simply annoy her. Amber gazes to her Aeon then into the forest. The darkness could be daunting for some, what light the moon gives barely penetrates the deeper one wanders. The direction they were going, they would have to pass through the thick of the forest to reach where the glow was. Amber is first to start, her dark eyes flickering to see if there were immediate threats. None seen, she passes through the opening, a pair of twisted trees arched over them, as if to allow them the grand entrance into their territory. “I come here often enough. You’ll probably see where I have been present. I constantly have to apologize to the forest for taking the brunt of my training and such.” Amber had instinctively restrained her words - not just training but her frustrations. She glances over her shoulder to her friends. “You both should wander more, with me or not. The campus is such an odd place.” |

“Wild ones too. They're such resiliant little flowers to bloom so late. Want one?” "Of course." It was as if there were a different air around them in this small pocket of the campus. The idea that something, anything could be waiting for them ahead didn't carry a daunting feeling. It was something Emerald supposed all students have to get used to the longer they stay. There were always surprises around every corner. Mazohyst arrives, says the place is peaceful and Amber agrees, shedding light on the fact that she does, in fact, wander this place often. Emerald remains quiet but her gaze wanders around the place. “But it calls for caution. Just because it’s quiet does not mean giant rotting goo-monsters will not rise from nowhere to chase us. Ne, Mazo?” Emerald simply smiled, but not for the obvious reason. She moved on a heel, turning the two out of sight. But noise from behind her hits her ears; one of them is moving. Fall back; a step would break her fall and she turned on it to follow along. “You both should wander more, with me or not. The campus is such an odd place.” "Curiosity does not call to me like it does you." Emerald replied, hands folding together behind her back. |

“It always is at this time of the night.” Mazohyst replied with a silent nod. The raven-haired male steps forward, he crosses his arms as he gazes into the foliage-covered sky. The winged girl speaks again, she references their time in the meadow they had spent with a massive flesh-golem. Mazohyst felt his stomach twist and churn slightly. He was used to the smell of rot and death, but hardly was he ever completely soaked to the bone in it. That was, overall, a pretty disgusting experiencee. It was one that he hoped he wouldn't relive, not here, not ever. "You're right," He replies with a slight laugh. "Such beasts tend to come out when least expected." His words are true, although a little haunting. Mazo had a fleeting suspicion that the source of the glow was not entirely benevolent. Perhaps the trio were merely moths being guided to a flame. It is perfectly possible, Mazohyst just hoped that it wasn't. The less conflict here, the better. If Mazohyst is going to be thrown into a scene of guts and gore he'd rather do it on his own accord. “I come here often enough. You’ll probably see where I have been present. I constantly have to apologize to the forest for taking the brunt of my training and such.”“You both should wander more, with me or not. The campus is such an odd place.” The male nods slowly, he probably should wander more. Although, Mazo does feel somewhat reluctant to do so considering how often he winds up in peril. Though, as Amber brings up training Mazo felt more compelled to wander. He needed training spots of his own. His skills, while not rusty, are not completely sharpened to perfection either. At least not at his idea of perfection anyway. "It definitely is odd," He begins. "Perhaps you're right, I could use the sunlight." He jokes about his remarkably pale complexion. "Or moonlight, really." |

Her shoes crunched through the leaves that had taken to falling early, hopping over the exposed roots of a nearby tree. They were still going the right direction, but they have not made it to the trouble spot, the point where the forest began to encroach and distort direction. Until then Amber was quiet enjoying the conversation. Quite the difference of their answers to the (coincidental, it had to be) similarity to their appearances. "It definitely is odd. Perhaps you're right, I could use the sunlight. Or moonlight, really." Amber waves her hand off, perish the thought of having to deal with daylight. The night was familiar, the time she constantly lived, moved, enjoyed. “Ah, the sunlight is overrated! You roast in such light and lacking it is always dismissed as too gloomy. But consider the moon is never harsh. Besides, more interesting things happen when the sun hides.” "Curiosity does not call to me like it does you." Emerald’s words sent her mind bouncing in various direction for more than one reason. Not only was she formulating a turn of conversation, but she hoped for a sort of redirection given they were approaching a certain location. The trees the trio were beginning to pass start off with small notches then degraded into full blown splinterings from a sword. Little by little, the markings on the trees become more and more violent, until they reached a small clearing. The center was an old stump, radiating were many fallen (cut) branches, many covered by encroaching vines and long devastating marks on the thicker trunks. A glance up from the localized destruction and there would be a view of the moon and the glitter of stars - a forced opening just to see the sky. As they passed by this clearing, not even a glance of acknowledgment or a quickening of pace from Amber. “Curiousity...then I should be careful ne? I cannot be like the cat.” The girl tilts her head thoughtful for a moment. “Ah, but then would a cat not have more sense? I always assumed they have the basic instincts that assures they would have more caution.” Amber stops in her tracks and turns to face her friends. “There are humans that have less sense than a curious cat. Like the human visiting the Grand Canyon that hops over the safety railing and falls to his death, or the human that dives into the low end of a swimming pool. Maybe the curious 'cataphile' that would descend deep into catacombs despite the dangers that hide in the uncharted areas. The first two I suppose that would not be curiosity more than stupidity, but the last fit the idea.” Amber suddenly falls silent, her dark eyes bounce from Emerald to Mazohyst. The crickets chirp in a timely place seem to illustrate the awkward comedy of it all. How she wanted to turn to the crickets and yell at them to stop mocking her - an even more weird visual! A blush rises to her cheeks and Amber quickly bows her head, flustered that she had let her mind and words wander of their own accord. The winged girl was very careful about how she carried herself and hated to appear a fool to others, friends or not. “S-Sorry. I rambled.” The winged girl says, reaching up to make sure the aster she picked did not fall from the sudden bow of her head. How she wanted to simply turn and continue walking as if she could physically distance herself from the conversation! “That particular saying among others has never made too much sense to me...Like catching a cold from cold weather.” |

A flourish of light followed the path of destroyed trees. Someone had been there before them, but Emerald felt no need to state the obvious. She tossed a glance upwards quickly. Emerald stopped a moment after Amber, listening to her talk of curiosity. It seemed incredibly sudden, though, when she stopped talking and stared at the two of them. “S-Sorry. I rambled.” Embarrassed? Emerald could not understand it. “That particular saying among others has never made too much sense to me...Like catching a cold from cold weather.” "Well, no it doesn't." She said quickly, "But the stupidity of those wishing to defy obvious limitations could be caused by curiosity taking over their greater sense. Some people simply prefer to prove something is wrong, even when it isn't. And perhaps the point if it is to say if something with such sense as a cat can be killed by it, people should be weary of following the feeling." And while Emerald thought to continue, she hesitated due to Amber's previous reaction. Perhaps it was better to leave it at that. |

((OOC - short one, here)) Mazohyst remains, for the most part, silent. He nods as she speaks, he listens to what the winged girl has to say but admittedly his mind begins to somewhat drift, her words turn into vivid images of his head. Humans are definitely an odd, peculiar bunch, that much was true. The majority of mankind, to Mazohyst, often appeared weak and impractical. What was it that animals lacked that humans had? Spirit, determination? Few rarely displayed such traits, perhaps the teenager would save the thought and effort for another time. Though, an eyebrow is raised as Amber mentions catacombs. That is definitely something Mazohyst would do, or at least be tempted to do. He too wondered why it was a cat that curiousity killed when in fact, humans appeared to put themselves into compromising situations much more often. The teenager had a looming suspicion that they themselves were letting their curiousity get the best of them, but the trio's reasoning for moving towards the glow was obviously a little more than sheer curiousity. “S-Sorry. I rambled.” "No need to apologize," he replies, turning his head towards her for a moment. "But the stupidity of those wishing to defy obvious limitations could be caused by curiosity taking over their greater sense. Some people simply prefer to prove something is wrong, even when it isn't. And perhaps the point if it is to say if something with such sense as a cat can be killed by it, people should be weary of following the feeling." "Mankind is definitely an interesting bunch," he says with a shrug. "I don't know, sometimes people don't need a reason to be ridiculous or insane. They just are, or whatever." |

"Well, no it doesn't. But the stupidity of those wishing to defy obvious limitations could be caused by curiosity taking over their greater sense. Some people simply prefer to prove something is wrong, even when it isn't. And perhaps the point if it is to say if something with such sense as a cat can be killed by it, people should be weary of following the feeling." Sensible was Emerald, her answer suited her. "Mankind is definitely an interesting bunch. I don't know, sometimes people don't need a reason to be ridiculous or insane. They just are, or whatever." Without reason for their vices, Mazo's answer made her laugh inside. She could recall those she had slayed and wondered of their reasons - laughable. Gone was the nervousness as apparent relief crossed the winged girl's face. She is used to carrying herself with far more tact and care that once in a while she feels, slips. Smaller conversation between two friends she has come to know, but still hesitant. Why and on what is a subject kept to herself. Pleased by their input, Amber spins around and continues in the current direction. "I like both of your thoughts. Interesting, I'm not sure of that. Variety, agreed. Desperately needing to find reasoning and methods to madness - it's all so human. And then there is us, depending if we are apart or part of humanity...and in that there is even more branches to wonder." As if the forest heard her utter the right word, the forest begins to become dense, with or without the fallen leaves they begin to cover the moon. With every step the forest grows darker and take on an almost sinister appearance, shadows move and the breeze across treetops begin to sound like hisses of some otherworldly lurking monster - maybe it was just the trickery of the mind. The glow of her Aeon's screen slowly becoming the only light that accompanied them in their adventure, the beacon of technology in nature's territory. And even then, the screen flickers and scrambles oddly once in a while. Amber's mind begins to wander, toying with the idea if Mazo and Emmy would like to partake in a game when she suddenly stops. A huge shadow lingered over them, the wind rustles the overarching branches for a mere moment and beams of brief moonlight revealed what had made her stop. "Oh...wow." She whispers as she raised her head. In front of them was a log of epic proportions. At one point, the fallen "log" had been a tall tree that could have reached forty feet in height, not counting the twenty some odd feet in exposed root alone. Four and a half feet in thickness, this massive tree was now a spectacular roadblock to behold. Hopefully it fell on its own and not because of anything in particular that lurked in the forest. The winged girl tilted her head in curiousity then looked down to her Aeon. Obviously, she had never seen this before yet the direction was correct. She pockets her device and looks to her friends with a cheery smile. "I don't know about you guys, but I'm in no mood to walk around this thing." And with her less than well known curiouslty to explore renewed, she leaps up, opening her wings to help her leap up onto the top of the fallen tree. There is a brief sensation of slipperyness beneath her foot, but she was able to keep balance. A shine of the Aeon beneath her feet and she finds moss beginning to grow on some ares of the log. How long ago had this massive thing fallen anyways? Given how little moonlight was able to penetrate the forest, the nephlet was unable to tell if this had an equally spectacular view - remember to revisit in the daytime. Amber brushes off bark fragments and apparently moss from her skirt and glances down to her friends. "Easier than it looks. Do watch for the moss though. I almost slipped." |

"I like both of your thoughts. Interesting, I'm not sure of that. Variety, agreed. Desperately needing to find reasoning and methods to madness - it's all so human. And then there is us, depending if we are apart or part of humanity...and in that there is even more branches to wonder." "The generic human thought process that belongs to those huddled up in their little worlds aren't as difficult to decipher as they'd like to think. We can pick apart their actions, their thoughts, but it's likely that we'll never be able to understand them unless we are them." Emerald added, a little thoughtless string of comments she hadn't put much direction into. It seemed to steer off from the original conversation; more of a 'we don't know them and they don't know us' kind of thing. "And we, especially the three of us, are a distant fear in their minds, if they really believe we exist." As they walk the forest darkens, to a point where even Emerald found difficulty making out specific figures. It was difficult to work with heightened sight with no light source at all. Sure, she could see faint outlines others couldn't, and the faint shots of light streaming down through the uncommon break in the leaves was helping, but it always irritated her to be left with useless senses. The Aeon screen helped, though, however erratic it was. "Oh...wow." The log. Of course. Not unstable, but coated in some patches by dampened moss; a danger when working hand in hand with careless behaviour. "I don't know about you guys, but I'm in no mood to walk around this thing." Emerald cringed slightly as Amber decided to jumped onto the log, slipping slightly under the previously mentioned moss. She would have moved to try and catch Amber if she wasn't so sure she wouldn't actually fall off the thing. "Easier than it looks. Do watch for the moss though. I almost slipped." At first Emerald threw a glance towards Mazohyst, wondering whether or not he would partake in the activity. It was not exactly something Emerald did often, if at all, really. What fascination was there in walking along a dead tree instead of the ground? Amber's mind was a curious puzzle. Nevertheless... In a fairly swift movement, she found herself balancing perfectly on the point of her foot atop the fallen tree, though she was not entirely sure why. The idea of it all had been relatively amusing when she was younger. There wasn't much else to do where she'd grown up. Where Amber and most likely Mazohyst would continue to move along, she had paused for a moment or two. The flood of memories was literally immobilising. |

"I like both of your thoughts. Interesting, I'm not sure of that. Variety, agreed. Desperately needing to find reasoning and methods to madness - it's all so human. And then there is us, depending if we are apart or part of humanity...and in that there is even more branches to wonder." He really did wonder how humanity would view meta-humans, especially those with occasionally vicious tendencies like the trio of part-time explorers. Would they gaze in awe or terror? Or spit at them in disgust and contempt? Or both? The violet-eyed teenager saw either as a likely reaction, however humans are a strange lot. Both predictable and fickle, sometimes at the same time, somehow. Few other beings are like that, really. Mazohyst's mind began to wander as he silently followed. He began to think about the last thing Amber had said. Mazohyst certainly didn't feel 'human' at times himself. In fact, he posessed a sense of superiority over the common man. He wasn't exactly sure whether or not such a feeling was justified. However, when it comes to a physical confrontation then he certainly is. "The generic human thought process that belongs to those huddled up in their little worlds aren't as difficult to decipher as they'd like to think. We can pick apart their actions, their thoughts, but it's likely that we'll never be able to understand them unless we are them." "Walk a mile in another man's shoes?" Mazo replies, his hand brushing a couple strands of hair out of his eyes. "We'll never get the chance. You're right, I don't think we'll ever understand them, and vice-versa." No one can truly understand another person, he thought. The concept was a rather harsh one but, for the moment, he stood by it. Though, he chose not to talk about it. "And we, especially the three of us, are a distant fear in their minds, if they really believe we exist." A distant fear? It seemed that Emerald had answered the question that had had been previously thinking about. The violet-eyed male replied with a nod. "Distant fear - that's certainly fitting." He left it at that. At any rate, the trio continues to move deeper into the forest. Mazohyst began to become increasingly wary as they moved. The constant thought of some sort of otherwordly pursuer constantly bugged him. The likelihood of being watched was rather high considering they were surrounded by trees and looming shadows. It was just as likely that Mazo was simply being paranoid, but his paranoia is justified though. Mazo looked at the massive fallen log with a dull glare. He imagined how it looked when it was still erect. Obviously, it would stand ridiculously tall, but how tall? Not that it mattered, but he was a little curious. "Yggdrasil," he says with a smirk, referencing the world tree of Norse mythology. The teenager wasn't sure why Amber wanted to climb the tree. He had shrugged once Emerald had thrown a quick, curious glance. Ultimately, he decided that he might as well follow. His movements, however, were rather lethargic and sluggish. Mazohyst chose not to actually climb or jump a top the fallen tree. Instead, he lazily drew his sword and, with his powers, formed the segments of it into an improvised staircase for him to walk on. The segments of his sword reattached back to the main blade as he moved lazily from step to step. "Too lazy to climb or jump," he says as he lands on the log with a thud. The view was splendid. Well if there was actually a decent light source around it would be. The light of the moon had been inconveniently veiled by the dense foliage and forestry. He made a mental note of this log's location and put it into memory. Perhaps he'd return during the day, although that is very unlikely. "This would make a pretty impressive sight if it wasn't so dark." He states the obvious. |

Already having a look around, the nephlet’s pause was only to make note of the fallen tree and to check where they were in proximity to the glow. Still odd, Amber found, that there had been nothing listed that would be the cause of the glow. The over map of MHS only listed the general area as forest, but still...curiosity will prevail. Emerald joins her in, though Mazohyst took a practical approach. His segmented sword meets unknown-year-old tree trunk and having made himself a set of steps to surpass climbing or jumping. As much as Amber may attribute environments to having a life of their own, she doubted the fallen tree would mind. "Too lazy to climb or jump." “Clever idea.” Amber says with a giggle. "This would make a pretty impressive sight if it wasn't so dark." “Certainly. At least if we wish to return in the day, this would be an easier climb. Yggdrasil,” She keels and pats the trunk of the tree. “...will remain asleep, dreaming in the meantime.” Amber’s focus falls to the Aeon, halfway there...if only the screen didn’t flicker so much. She could not have broken it already! The thought of having to see Stein to have it fixed was far from pleasant, so hopefully it was nothing serious. Back in the pocket, Amber glances down to the ground and then hops off the log. Her open wings allow her to land with ease, not that it had been a far drop to begin with. The girl takes three steps forward to remain out of the way of the jump and spins to look up at them, a patient show to follow along when ready. Having spied the far off stare in Emerald’s eyes while atop the fallen tree, she could allow for her friend to revel in her thoughts. It was hard not to at least had some admiration for the nature around campus. The throwback to the caves, the overall odd atmosphere of the waterfall, the almost living breathing forest that surrounds them now - all entirely different than the nature of the city she has come to know. Even with the random spawning of beasts and monsters, she preferred this to the last, dark place she had been... “I wonder if this is all more naturally occurring magic.” Amber wonders aloud enough for Mazo and Emmy to hear her out. “It all seems remarkably out of place. Not that anyone in school pays too much mind - it’s pleasant.” If the Forest of Itami was truly a being of its own, it may have felt differently towards the three students crossing its territory in the dead of night. A mighty gust of wind blows strong enough to sway the unsuspecting, kicking up a cloud of leaves, twigs and dust. Amber shuts her eyes, she may have shouted something but the words become lost in the gust. And just as immediately as the wind slows, a dead silence throughout the forest. Not sound of wind, of leaves, of twigs snapping from the wildlife hiding in the shadows. |

To revel in thought. There was not much to recall, really. Just the few idle memories Emerald could recall that did not involve any form of pain. While she was not one to simply focus on the good, it was difficult not to in this situation. Atop a fallen log, far off in a distant forest and small trained killers testing balance. Falling, laughing. And then being scolded after being caught past perimeters. Ha. “I wonder if this is all more naturally occurring magic. It all seems remarkably out of place. Not that anyone in school pays too much mind - it’s pleasant.” A final step; her foot wavers over the edge of the log for a few moments before she fell the short distance to the ground, landing soundly on her feet. She moved to speak before the gust of wind picked up, eliminating all noise within itself. It didn't seem to make much sense, such a strong wind practically out of no where. And then silence, just as quickly as it was taken. Emerald had stopped movement just as the wind had picked up, taking a few steps when it stopped and noting the sound of snapping twigs around them, catching glimpses of fleeing animals. "How strange, though admittedly I don't venture so deeply into this place, so is it really strange?" Surely Amber or Mazohyst would know more about the place than she would. The few times she'd been in the forest, she had been far too busy to notice the unnatural things that may or may not happen. |

“Clever idea.” Mazohyst cracked a brief and rather crooked smile in response to Amber's remark. The teenager's amethyst-stained eyes glanced momentarily at the winged girl, though his gaze quickly averted back to the rather eerie, dense foliage around the trio. Curiously, he wondered how different the place looked during daylight. It would definitely look impressive as he had previously said but light tends to reveal hidden mysteries of the night. His arms crossed and sword levitating near him through use of his powers, Mazo remained quiet for the most part, preferring to observe rather than speak for the moment. Of course, that was only temporary as Mazo is not the type to completely fade into nothingness and uselessness like a shadow of the mind. It was after hopping down and adeptly landing by bending his knees to absorb the impact did he choose to break his temporary silence. The teenager's wicked blade followed shortly after him and landed on the ground to his side. “I wonder if this is all more naturally occurring magic.”“It all seems remarkably out of place. Not that anyone in school pays too much mind - it’s pleasant.” "I wouldn't be too surprised if it were," He speaks, his voice resonating with his usual cool demeanor. "The entirety of the campus... There appears to be something well, different about it, I suppose. I can't exactly put my finger on it but I tend to feel some sort of strange sensation here that I don't feel elsewhere, but that feeling could very well be just a trick of the mind." The sudden gust of wind and breaking of twigs, however, certainly was not. It was simply unignorable and definitely not a hallucination, or a mind trick of some sort. It just couldn't be as Emerald and Amber had reacted to the sudden howling of wind and rustling of wildlife. "How strange, though admittedly I don't venture so deeply into this place, so is it really strange?" "Definitely bizarre," he begins, his eyes once again cautiously surveying the surrounding environment. Slight bursts of paranoia began creeping in. Mazo couldn't help but be overly vigilant. "I don't explore this place much either but as I said earlier... There's definitely something different. Vague, I know." |

The skewed reality - the forest suspended in dead silence, so unnatural that even the crickets ceased their chirping song. The might gust of wind may very well have carried off all sound, with the exception of their voices. Amber, who had closed them to protect them from the kick-up of twigs, leaves and dust, opened her eyes. No, this could not possibly have been a hallucination. "How strange, though admittedly I don't venture so deeply into this place, so is it really strange?" Emerald’s gentle musing voice sounded louder than it should against the backdrop of the silent forest. The winged girl had the answer, yet felt the need to pause for some inexplicable reason. Her hand reached up, expecting to feel the petals of the wild aster she had plucked earlier...and finding it was gone. "Definitely bizarre," Mazohyst answered in her absence, which was fine as he felt the same. Yes, it was bizarre - a mighty gust of wind tunneling through the forest at great speed? It really didn’t make sense given the force of it, given their location. Amber kneeled down, searching for the purple flower stolen by the wind gust - where was it? "I don't explore this place much either but as I said earlier... There's definitely something different. Vague, I know." “You’re both correct - something is off with the forest tonight.” Amber finally speaks, however distracted she was looking for the little aster. If her dark eyes couldn’t find the violet flower among the small streams of moonlight through the trees, then it was unlikely that she would be able to find it at all. Her sigh is brief and disappointed by the loss, then she reaches into her pocket for the Aeon. Even the rustle of her own clothing sounded louder than it should be in overwhelming silence, it irked her. She stares at the gadget’s screen with visible puzzlement, she taps and touches the screen a few times. “Hmn...” Amber muses with some caution in the hopes that it was temporary. A few more taps, a small sound wave of static, then nothing. First a huge wind gust, a dead-silent forest, and now a belligerent device- just what they needed. Just as she had decided on asking about their devices, the air pressure changes. Their ears would pop slight and suddenly the heavy veil of silence lifts from the forest. Crickets chirp their night song, the natural cool wind scrapes the treetops, twigs snap as small creatures scamper and move. While the darkness from the trees did not cease, the sound of life returning towards the forest felt much more comforting and much less daunting than it could be. Amber raised her head from her stubborn Aeon and glanced around. At least there was sound again! “I’m starting to wonder if we’re allowed here.” She says with a cheerfulness contradicting the situation in jest - there had to be something to break the growing paranoia, to dash the idea that the forest was out to get them somehow. But why? Giving up on her Aeon, she pocketed it again and turned to head in the direction where the device last listed. It was not as if they could get too lost anyways, right? "For all we know, the forest coul-ouch!!" Amber yelps briefly and is quick to kneel as she felt brief pain around her ankle. Through the small streams of light, she could see that something thorny had wrapped around and up her leg, a few thorns managed to pierce her just above the boot. ----- Meanwhile the paranoia of a vengeful forest would not be completely unfounded. Twisted rows of thick, thorny vines that originated somewhere in the darkness, slithered towards the trio with caution. They moved only when another sound could mask their movements and stopped when silence could reveal their intent. One would make itself known to them, the rest waited just a few feet away, waiting to strike. Slither, slither, creep... |
