New season, new drama. XD

Amber tossed and turned, but her eyes had remained wide open. The urges built upon one another, lacing with her living, waking days. Nightmares and dreams were beginning to bleed into one another to the point where she was uncertain if she was in a dream or if her nightmares were slowly morphing into the more mundane, slowly mirroring her waking world. Those things she meant to keep separate, apart at all times but there were many forces at work that kept her from keeping them apart.

The winged sat up, stretching her wings before reaching for her Aeon, the technological marvel was her anchor, the certainty that she was in fact still awake. The time glimmered, revealing half past midnight, the curfew had went into effect a little more than an hour ago. Her dark eyes moved to stare out the window, where a big bright moon beckoned to her. It was a beautiful night.

So she dressed light and cute; a simple soft black Putumayo shirt, a black parka with an ornate red design and a red and black tartan skirt. A pair of boots over her stockings and she escapes the confines of her room and continued outside, carrying her Aeon in a small crown purse. This was how the winged girl came to be on the rooftop, quietly walking down the hallways of the living quarters until she reached the stairwell. her footsteps there were impossible to hide, the mere movement echoed upwards and below. Crossing the campus was another adventure in itself. All appeared quiet and cool from the entrance of fall, but Amber knew better, hiding in shadows and remaining low. Finding an open window on one of the bottom floors left by the cleaning squad during the nightly activities, she ascended to the rooftop of the school building and it's breathtaking view. She watched the bright moon hanging in the sky and indulged in long gazes over the quiet campus of MHS.

And then she saw it. Far beyond the forest of Itami, a glow caught her eye - an odd glow that conjured reminders of a spaceship and a rescue....but this light, it was the calm sort, clean and soft to the eyes With a blink it was gone. A brief trick of the moonlight?

“Hmn...”

Amber pulls out her Aeon from her purse, tapping a message to two people in particular. Discreet, hopefully it would not wake either of them from a sound sleep. He may not be asleep, she might or might not; Amber was not entirely sure.

I can’t sleep. If you’re awake, I’m on the rooftop.

Unable to sleep. Never able to sleep, to the point where there was no point trying anymore, not until that unfamiliar heavy feeling would settle in. Emerald is awake at half past midnight. The night was far more interesting anyway. Sitting up, perched on the windowsill staring blankly out the window as insignificant marks lit the sky; stars. The occasional breeze was cool against her face. Eyes closed.

And the Aeon speaks.

Hardly one to expect a call or message at such a late hour, Emerald didn't have it on hand. She moved, slipping in through the window to find it sitting on the desk.

I can’t sleep. If you’re awake, I’m on the rooftop.

It was a short walk from the first floor to the roof; it was just as easy to use the little device to get there instantly, but she wasn't that interested in the idea of it all. Still, it was worth another try. A few quick taps, and her room was empty. Less than a minute would have gone by since that message was sent.

"Amber." Emerald said, closing the distance between the two of them with a few steps. "I owed you." Smile.

While relatively late, Mazo was not one to sleep at such a time. The teenager simply laid in his bed, unlit cigarette held loosely between his lips simply out of habit. Just having a cigarette, lit or not, between his lips felt at least somewhat relieving. If his irritating roommate Taro had never moved in then that same cigarette would have long ago been sparked and reduce to a little filter-stub. Sure, Mazo could just do it anyway, but he didn't want to start any unnecessary problems. He'd rather not have to deal with Taro considering all the other shit he dealt with on a near-daily basis.

Violet-eyes were concealed by his eyelids, shut tightly in attempt to sleep. The sound of a ticking clock reeked havoc on his mind. He could hear rustling and scraping from a distance, both towards Taro's room as well as from outside. Numerous shadows cast by the objects in his room, as well as a large tree from outside, cast menacing shadows. They appeared jagged, contorted and distorted, unnatural. He had seen the shadows before. They were merely regular shadows, if they weren't then they certainly seemed passive enough.

The shadows momentarily retreat as a brilliant light radiates out from his Aeon. The light partially subsides as he turns towards his nightstand. His eyelids opened, revealing a pair of violet orbs illuminated intensely by the glow of his Aeon. Laying on his left side now, Mazo's right arm extends out and grasps the Aeon and he reads the message he had received.

I can’t sleep. If you’re awake, I’m on the rooftop.

He sits up without a word, moving his blankets off his body. Mazo grasps a dark violet t-shirt and puts it on, covering his scarred upperbody, and hops into a pair of blackjeans. The teenager puts on a pair of his typical black boots while he simultaneously snaps his heavy cloth belt shut. Mazo glances outside his window and puts on a black jacket, shoves a box of cigarettes and a lighter into his jacket pocket, and then reaches for his Aeon.

"Oh yeah....Yeah..."

A voice is heard from beyond his door. Either it was a television or whatever, or Taro was busy fornicating on the couch. Note to self - don't go on that couch.

Total mood ruiner.

Mazo shakes his head and taps away at the screen of his Aeon. In an instant he disappears, leaving the eerie ticking of a clock and the menacing shadows to their own devices. He reappears, his matter reconstructing himself (or whatever, he didn't understand the process beyond the devices' teleportation) and immediately sees Amber and another girl, Emerald.

"Quite the view," He says as he turns around the corner of a ventilation unit. "Just us insomniacs here?"

For the moment she waited, the nephlet fiddled with the teleport function of the Aeon, appearing to be mildly frustrated with something - an interesting observation that would have to wait.

"Amber. I owed you."

She raises her hand in greeting and smiles. Given the moment Amber had sent out her message and Emerald's arrival, she had been awake too. There were many souls in MHS that were not inclined to sleep, or inclined to remain cooped up in dark rooms for too long. The sheer amount of kids that got in trouble for attempting to leave campus for whatever reasons had been proof enough.

“Ah, is that so?” She asks tenderly. The last time Emerald has asked her to join her late into the night, there were more dire circumstances. The good fortune here was that there were no bodies to drag and hide away, no heaviness of monochrome moralities to contemplate. But friends do those sort of things, right? Amber hoped that this night would be a refreshing change of pace for all of them.

“I found something interesting Emmy, but let us wait.”

Amber says cheerfully, uncertain if the third would join them. Mazohyst did not seem one to sleep regularly, but Amber never had the mind to ask him directly. The winged girl glanced over her shoulder, her dark eyes sweeping the view of the campus, particularly around the foot of the Aira mountain. She was searching for something, but without the visual, she could not point it out. Just as she finished off what she was saying, Mazohyst appears onto the rooftop, making use of the teleporting function.

"Quite the view. Just us insomniacs here?"

Odd how her heart jumps a little when she sees him, but in a positive way - something she could dwell on later given the curious nature of the night. The winged girl beckoned Mazohyst to come close. Besides, they would both have to in order to see what she had found.

“It seems so. I’m relieved that I did not draw either of you from sound sleep.”

Amber glances to the sky, where long stray clouds partly cover the light of the moon and slowly drifting away.

“I felt too cooped up in my own room...so I came here. It’s a lovely night to enjoy, ne?”

“Ah, is that so?”

Emerald gave an inward laugh; of course she was not keeping score on such a thing. It did not matter between friends.

“I found something interesting Emmy, but let us wait.”

She would have asked had Amber not told her to wait. For what? She could only guess another person, and if so there were only one she could think of. Emerald didn't know many of her friends, so she could only think of him.

"Quite the view. Just us insomniacs here?"

At first Emerald doesn't turn. Instead, her eyes were on Amber. The subtle way her eyes lit up, something most others wouldn't see but then, that is where heighten senses flair to be useful. Finally she looked over to him, and thought in those moments that it would be better to retreat to her room for the two of them. And no hard feelings would be met.

“I felt too cooped up in my own room...so I came here. It’s a lovely night to enjoy, ne?”

"It's much nicer here as opposed to the window on the first floor." Emerald replied, tilting her gaze towards the stars.

Lips curl into a slight smile as he sees Amber, a little bit moreso when she gestures for him to approach. Though, the expression gradually subsides, though not for any clear reason. Mazo just isn't too expressive after all. He tilts his head slightly, violet eyes scan the wonderous sky. The endless space above was illuminated with numerous bright stars, causing his violet-eyes to shine and reflect light. It appeared as if they were glowing even. The glow subsides as his gaze and attention shift back to Amber and Emerald. He turns to face the winged girl as she speaks.

“It seems so. I’m relieved that I did not draw either of you from sound sleep.”

"I wouldn't have minded either way," Mazo replies truthfully.

“I felt too cooped up in my own room...so I came here. It’s a lovely night to enjoy, ne?”

Clearly Mazo wasn't the only one. Though, he always did have a hunch that Amber had trouble sleeping. It made sense considering her experiences. While he did not know Emerald as well she seemed to give off a certain vibe that indicated a similar sleeping problem. Mazo would know after all, he had that same vibe to him. Though, he had a feeling that Emerald also shared and participated in various grisly acts just as he had before.

Birds of a feather flock together. Only now, they were actually together and doing something non-school related.

"It's much nicer here as opposed to the window on the first floor."

"Agreed, it's better than the second floor's as well." Mazo nodded at Emerald. "Plus, my new roommate isn't too...well likeable." Mazo could have said so much worse but fortunately he restrained himself. "You've both met him. He's that Taro guy."

Though he respected Emerald and had no problem with her he found it difficult to initiate conversation with her. How had he met Amber in the first place again? Oh right, he was asking about the existence of angels, demons, and their respective realms. The raven-haired Mazo wasn't so sure that would be a good topic to get to know Emerald, so he remained quiet, though he briefly flashed a friendly smile at her before averting his gaze back to the stars.

There was a kind of delight in Amber's smile. A long history of cultural and influence from her mother’s heritage allowed her to find some peace of mind through hosting. She adored atmosphere, whether it was the perfect tea to coordinate with the season outside the window for a friendly meeting, or the night sky and full moon for a sleepless night with friends. They appreciated it which made Amber feel a little better about bringing them out to the rooftop. Appreciate what's present, see beauty in the mundane.

Besides, it was not the only reason she called them to the rooftop. Views were lovely, mild conversation was nice, but it was not what had driven her to summon two of her friends in the middle of the night.

"Taro, ne?" Amber asks upon Mazohyst's mentioning of the odd classmate. The way he speaks to her was...uncomfortable to her, but Amber did best to be polite about it. "He seems he would be an...interesting roommate to have. He And I have talked on occasion, but he's quite odd. Forward maybe."

It was all she could really say of him really without delving into uncomfortable territory. It would not matter too much anyways. The clouds would drift away from the moon, bathing the campus in a bright, ethereal glow. Shadows would take shelter from such light, retreating closer to the objects they are anchored to. Amber's attention moved towards the foot of the mountain; the glow had returned, bright and with some prismatic ebbs. That simply could not be moonlight itself...

“Ah, that’s it...” Amber says softly, the curious winged girl caught by the strange glow. Upon realization that Emmy and Mazo may now understand what she was talking about, she looks over to them.

“I found something in that direction.” She explains, pointing to the base of the Aira Mountain. The prismatic glow was visible among the rest of the moonlight. Glowing and fading, glowing and fading again, not quite matching the rest of the glow of the school.

“Odd isn’t it? I thought it was moonlight alone, but it doesn't look right. And when I tried to see if it was possible to teleport that way, the Aeon brings up an error cue.”

A cute if not mischievous smile; a rare thing to see considering how restrained and polite she normally was. But certain things, situations called out to her and begged for discovery. Just as she spent time in the cave system and had found Enki, her penchant for exploration was easy to pique.

"Want to go see what it is?"

"Plus, my new roommate isn't too...well likeable. You've both met him. He's that Taro guy."

A roommate. And from one of her conversations, she had discovered that Amber currently had a roommate as well. Both except for her. "Perhaps I'm lucky," She said, "The school has decided to leave me on my own. Odd; usually they throw people who prefer to be on their own with the abrasive counterpart." Because it was common knowledge for anyone observing the goings on around them that the staff of the school rather enjoyed the little things that could cause their students misfortune.

"He seems he would be an...interesting roommate to have. He And I have talked on occasion, but he's quite odd. Forward maybe."

Amber gives her opinions of the boy, but Emerald had none to share. "Lucky again." She said with a smile, being the only one of the three not to have had a conversation with him. Lucky indeed, it seemed. A soft glow; Emerald reacted to it before Amber pointed it out. The bright colour against such a dark background was difficult to miss for someone like her. The sudden pulse of light.

“Odd isn’t it? I thought it was moonlight alone, but it doesn't look right. And when I tried to see if it was possible to teleport that way, the Aeon brings up an error cue.”

"Strange." She does what most people would do when seeing something unnatural; her eyes squint lightly as if there were a chance she could see better. Of course not.

"Want to go see what it is?"

A curious nature was something difficult to ignore, and while her mind told her there was probably a good reason they had blocked it from the Aeon, this often unstoppable counterpart won again, and she nodded. "Alright." A thought came to mind suddenly, and she had to wonder; what could they be hiding this time.

"Perhaps I'm lucky,""The school has decided to leave me on my own. Odd; usually they throw people who prefer to be on their own with the abrasive counterpart."

"Sounds like it," The raven-haired male agreed with her. "I had a little girl as a roommate once. That was rather odd, awkward too I suppose. No idea where she is now though. Didn't even know co-ed dorms were accepted, she was kinda just placed there." His former roommate had pretty much just disappeared without warning. Mazo cared little about the child, they hardly ever interacted after all. Still, he was slightly curious about her sudden disappearance. Though, of course, there was nothing he could do about it, and there wasn't anything he wanted to do about it either.

"He seems he would be an...interesting roommate to have. He And I have talked on occasion, but he's quite odd. Forward maybe."

"Interesting?" Mazo laughed a little bit. "More like obnoxious, at least so far anyway." The teenager didn't see Taro redeeming or proving himself as a worthy-being anytime soon. He finished there, Mazohyst didn't have much else to say about Taro. Well, he could say more but he didn't want to go into too much detail.

“Ah, that’s it...”

The nephlet speaks softly, referring to the strange prismatic glow in the distance. Mazohyst looks closely at it before activating his vision-enhancing powers. His eyes sparkle and glow slightly as he does so, they vibrantly reflect the moonlight and the prismatic glow in the distance.

“Odd isn’t it? I thought it was moonlight alone, but it doesn't look right. And when I tried to see if it was possible to teleport that way, the Aeon brings up an error cue.”

"It's definitely not natural," Mazo replied, still closely watching the glow through his enhanced vision.

"Want to go see what it is?"

"Alright."

"I'll join you two, but I don't intend to go unarmed," The teenager began, speaking truthfully, as his Mind's Eye deactivated itself. After all, most of the time he left the school he wound up in some sort of dangerous situation. "While I've ripped out my fair share of throats and crushed skulls barehanded I would rather go with a weapon." Mazohyst's tone was quite dry, it was difficult to tell whether or not he was engaging in a bit of dark humor or he was actually serious. Truth be told it was a little of both.

"I'll be back."

With that, the violet-eyed male tapped away on his Aeon before he shortly vanished. Once in his room he quickly grabbed the harness that held his sword and put it on. After, he shoved his blade into it, the weapon rested at the back of his hips. The entire process took only seconds. He suited up with the speed and expertise of a trained killer. After all, that's what he is. Nevertheless, he once more tapped on his Aeon and reappeared upon the roof where he had previously stood.

Amber was pleased for more than one reason; first she was certain that she was not seeing things from the lack of sleep, Emerald and Mazohyst were both able to see the prismatic, pulsating glow in the distance. The last thing she would have needed was to start hallucinating...again. The second reason for such pleasant sensations was their answers to her suggestion of exploration of said strange lights.

"Alright." Says Emerald.

"I'll join you two, but I don't intend to go unarmed," Mazohyst also answers favorably to hr suggestion, but he bore caution. "While I've ripped out my fair share of throats and crushed skulls barehanded I would rather go with a weapon."

The winged girl smiles and appeared quite happy with the choice of imagery his words conjure up. To many it would be shocking and horrifying thing to consider the crushing of skulls and the deep stab in the throat to drain a body of blood, but to the nephlet, she was actually trying really hard to push the urge to do such things down. There were faces and voices in her mind that begged to be shattered, snuffed out violently. Besides, she knew better and he was among good company for that sort of thing.

“A fine idea.” Amber says cheerfully. The girl did not have her weapon in sight, but there was more reason, more purpose to it than merely forgetting back at the dorm. She very well could still go back for it at any time...nevermind, this was fine. It would be fine, she hoped.

"I'll be back." Mazohyst says making his momentary leave. Upon his return, Amber’s obsidian eyes dropped to her Aeon, biting her lip briefly in consideration.

“All right...” She motions her friends to come and see what she had been wondering. “It would be easier to teleport to a point of entry instead of treading across the campus. The cleaning squad is probably going through the building to clear out the classrooms. Here.” She taps on the overhead view of the campus just outside of the Forest of Itami where there was a known clearing.

“We’ll meet here and then go on through the forest with relative ease. See you in a minute.” Says the cheerful nephlet, so happy that her curiosity would be satisfied. Besides, it was simply better to explore potentially dangerous avenues with good friends. They would hold up on their own fine after all. Amber taps where she wanted to appear next and then she was gone, as if the heavens took her with a blink.

"While I've ripped out my fair share of throats and crushed skulls barehanded I would rather go with a weapon."

Emerald blinked once or twice and he was gone. What a strange thing to say to someone he hardly knew, but she supposed he wasn't thinking of it like that. It seemed more of an open statement. She was a little, well, sad he'd disappeared so suddenly. An interesting conversation could have sprung from what he'd said. Given a little more time, she would interject with her own methods. There's a way to bond.

“It would be easier to teleport to a point of entry instead of treading across the campus. The cleaning squad is probably going through the building to clear out the classrooms. Here.”

Emerald retrieved the Aeon once more, opening the same application. Where Amber tapped the screen was found easily on the Aeon. It would not be Emerald's first trip to the forest; she knew the area well enough.

“We’ll meet here and then go on through the forest with relative ease. See you in a minute.”

And then, the only link between her and Mazohyst beside oddly similar appearance traits had disappeared. Emerald looked over towards Mazohyst for a few seconds, blanking on what to say, then what he'd said before popped back into her head. "Just so you know, I didn't find what you said strange," She began, any kind of awkward tone dissolving from her voice after that, "Our methods differ, but that's to be expected. Ripping throats and crushing skulls sounds quite..." What was the appropriate word... "Strong." Still, she gave a light smile to him,

"I prefer blade work, subtle slices and puncturing critical veins or arteries, causing them to bleed to death." She wanted to add how therapeutic it could be to watch the liquid spill out, painting the scenery with its intense shade of red, but she thought that could be saved for when she knew him better; it was more of a personal look into her sanity.

"Alright, let's go."

“It would be easier to teleport to a point of entry instead of treading across the campus. The cleaning squad is probably going through the building to clear out the classrooms. Here.”

Mazo retrives the device from his pocket, the glow of the screen illuminated his face as he held it up. The teenager examined his Aeon just as the others had and similarly opened up the teleportation application. The raven-haired teenager peered over Amber's shoulder. Carefully, Mazo had studied the screen, putting it into memory. Mazohyst then moved around his screen to mimic what he had previously seen, he was pretty accurate.

“We’ll meet here and then go on through the forest with relative ease. See you in a minute.”

The winged girl speaks and then, in a quick moment, disappears in a heavenly blink. Mazo looked towards Emerald, he wasn't sure what to say, but he felt he should at least say something. Something to clear the awkward air between the two. Just before Mazo can say anything or even think of saying anything, Emerald initiates small talk. Better you than me, he thought.

"Just so you know, I didn't find what you said strange,"

Mazo replied with an unsure "Hm?" He wasn't sure what she meant but he quickly recalled what he had said.

"Our methods differ, but that's to be expected. Ripping throats and crushing skulls sounds quite..." "Strong."

The teenager raised an eyebrow and smiled lightly, he wasn't completely sure that Emerald was the type to well...slaughter, but this confirmed his suspicions.

"I prefer blade work, subtle slices and puncturing critical veins or arteries, causing them to bleed to death."

"Ah, I see. That's always a fun way to do it," Mazo began, rubbing his chin. It was pretty rare for him to have anyone to 'talk shop' to. There was Nowhere Man, but other than that nobody. While his views are quite...interesting, Mazohyst felt wholly uncomfortable in the chaotic demon's presence. This was a nice change. "There's a time and place for both, I'd say. It's always good to have variety. The occasional disembowelment and intestine-enstranglement-deal is always interesting, one way or another."

"Alright, let's go."

Mazo replied with a nod, then he tapped at his screen and disappeared in a flash of light.
