Fable 2
The new installment of Fable has made many changes to its game play. There are still many things the same but they have still changed many things. In addition to being a girl now, there are more roles to play then the simple Good and Evil. Now there is Corruption and Nobility. Corruption is where you drink way too much, and Nobility is working hard in your characters job. The thing is you can be Good and Corrupted or Evil and Nobility. These will enhance some of the characters main features. Since they don’t follow the morality alignments it is possible to mix match. Not only do these roles play a role in your character, it will play a role in affecting your dog.

That’s right; in the new Fable you encounter a pet dog. This dog will stay with you the whole game. Your alignment is one of the many factors that will change your dog. The dog will, in a way replace the mini map from the first Fable. The dog will attack the weakest enemy, usually depending on factors like what type of weapon you have, the amount of damage the dog will be able to do is undefined. As well as attacking you may have fun with the dog. The player is able to buy toys, play fetch, reward and even punish their dogs! If you really are mean you can get your dog injured then run away from him. If you enter a pub, you will hear the dog scratching the door after a while and when someone lets the dog in they will react negatively to the harsh actions on your dog.

The dog may be a new twist in the game but some things from the first game were built upon. One of these features is dying. In the new Fable you only fall unconscious. When unconscious however, your enemies will continue to inflict damage on you. The damage inflicted will stay with your character who will gain permanent humiliating scars. Another thing built upon is jobs. You don’t just pick up things for people and run them back anymore. Since completing quests now gives you much less money, you are forced to start an employment. Some of the careers your character can pursue are a blacksmith, a farmer, a burglar, an assassin, a hunter, and a woodsman. More jobs should be introduced when this game comes out sometime in 2008.

One thing totally new is the option of cooperative game play. Now your friend can drop in and out of your Fable sessions. Your cooperative buddy is called a “henchman.” The main host can choose options like friendly fire and how loot is split. The “henchman’s” actions are permanent in the host’s offline game. This means that if the henchman kills an NPC then they will not be revived. As well as multiplayer it is said that the original “Plant an acorn in the ground and find a tree three years later” quote will be reality in the second Fable. This means that if you choose to save a camp you may come back there later and find out it has evolved into a town. As well as that every piece of property is possible to own by the main character. And the final thing that is different from the first Fable is that the world is now sandbox style. The player will not have to follow a fixed path anymore. So pick up this game and explore the familiar world of Albion five hundred years after the first game. It may be even better than you imagine.
