http://www.wadebowen.com/weblog/wbblog.htm Wednesday, December 13, 2006 ![]() So by now you know last week the Lee Ann Womack and Friends tour hit various venues in Texas and Oklahoma. I was fortunate enough to tag along for the last six shows of the tour, and man I have to say it might have been one of the greatest experiences in my five years of being on the road. Getting to run around with a Grammy winner and I can't remember how many CMAs and who knows what else. But all that aside she is a great person, and one hell of a singer, and some one who is very involved in changing country music for the better. One of the people who was very instrumental in the whole thing was a man by the name of Paul Rogers. His full time gig, if you will, is as road manager for George Strait. I think he said that he's been doing it since 1980. He had some picture albums from Strait tours back in the day, and it was almost seeing George become a superstar overnight. Wow! But George only plays about 30 or so gigs a year these days, so he works for Lee Ann in the mean time. So now I'm just going to throw out some random words that were prevalent on the tour. Whataburger! Almost every night. Even got to meet the VP in Corpus on the last night. Brownies! Mmm... George Strait! I think we listened to every single George Strait song one night. Merle Haggard. Listened to a lot of those too. Randy Rogers and Waylon Payne. Lee Ann recorded, "Down and Out" and "Her" on her latest record. And the phrase, "You might have heard of him!" Pertaining to a number of great singers that happened to be played on the jukebox. ![]() Did you know that Matt Miller played for George Strait back in the day? I didn't either. Just kidding. This is Rick McCray who played in the Ace in the Hole Band. I took a picture of it in those afore mentioned picture albums. But a crazy resemblance! And finally do you know these goons? Ace and Gary I think their names were. ![]() Anywho, we've got the week off this week. See ya next week on the road. =================== http://www.wadebowen.com/weblog/wbblog.htm ===================
