That was great...thanks.
I read recipes the same way I read science fiction. I get to the end and I think, "Well, that's not going to happen."

A little snippit of a review of LAW's TW with very interesting info and answers Steve question:

"Lee Ann Womack's take on "The Weight" has a more acoustic flavor and terrific harmony by Buddy and Julie Miller. "

- I'm sure this will please BigE even more hehe. I think it's very cool.

Another review:
"Lee Ann Womack's cover of "The Weight" is a true gem. Her soft yet powerful voice screams with emotion and augments the power of the lyrics. "

:D

...and don't forget: the tribute album comes out tomorrow. I'll be looking to see if they put it on iTunes and then I'll buy LAW's if possible.

Also, don't know if anybody noticed, but on Best Buy's website, they have four "exclusive tracks" listed:

18. Exclusive Track: "Ophelia" - Animal Liberation Orchestra
19. Exclusive Track: "Besse Smith" - Joe Henry
20. Exclusive Track: "Across the Great Divide" - Lucas Reynolds
21. Exclusive Track: "The Shape I'm In" - Gov't Mule

The reviews are starting to roll in:

Various Artists

"Endless Highway: The Music of The Band"

SLG 429

Thirty years after Martin Scorsese's brilliant "Last Waltz" documented the end of The Band's decade-long run comes "Endless Highway...," a sincere and outwardly well-appointed collection of covers of 17 of the group's signature songs.

As distinctive, singular and idiosyncratic as any band rock has produced, The Band combined curious, inventive song constructs, vivid 19th century imagery, haunting, inimitable vocals and rustic -- yet undeniable -- funkiness, but it was probably their collective commitment to "selling" their songs that separated them from the pack and make their music so difficult to interpret successfully.

The Band's myth was enormous and imposing, and at its peak, there wasn't one member of the group who didn't buy into it.

That said, it's no surprise that no one even approaches topping a Band original on this set, but My Morning Jacket's "It Makes No Difference," Lee Ann Womack's "The Weight" and Rosanne Cash's "The Unfaithful Servant" make the best arguments for their inclusion, each displaying spunk, passion and command.

Most of the rest are acceptable, if unmemorable, and lifeless takes by Jack Johnson, Gomez, Jakob Dylan and the Allman Brothers Band simply don't cut it at all.

Best bet: Save your money and return to the source.

Yes Yes!!! It certainly does :D

It's good to hear that Lee Ann is getting lots of love for "The Weight". It seems like a lot of folks are singing her praises, but there is one that isn't (that's kinda important)--HER LABEL!! :madtongue:

That's too bad about them saying "lifeless take by Jack Johnson" (easily my favorite non-country male artist). Then again, his style doesn't really fit the style of The Band.

thanks Steve for the review!

Haha BigE. I have listened to some of the others, and I did like them. Guster's was good, as well as some others (I forgot which ones though). I did listen to JJ's and it was good.

Thanks to coatmix for this alert (how I didn't see this last Tuesday, I don't know), but they added the album to iTunes :D (I already had the song though, but I'll buy it anyway to support the album and LAW.).:
