Major star signed to movie to begin filming in Beaumont
By Melissa Tilley, Staff Writer

Brett Moses, writer, producer, director and star of “Noble Things,” a movie set in Southeast Texas, announced Wednesday, May 17, at a press conference at Poblano Grill in Beaumont that Noble Productions, Ltd. had recently signed country music superstar Lee Ann Womack to play a lead role in the film. The film is scheduled to begin shooting in Jefferson, Hardin, Orange and Liberty Counties in July.
“This is a huge win for us,” said Moses. “The pedigree of cast for this movie is really fulfilling to me.”
Womack is set to play the lead role of the sheriff. Other cast members are Dominique Swain, of “Lolita” and “Alpha Dog,” Ryan Hurst of “Remember the Titans” and Southeast Texas’ own Tracy Byrd.
The soundtrack will also include tracks from the award-winning Womack, as well as other award winning talent performing songs written by Jason Greene, songwriting partner of country music star Clay Walker.
Moses, a native of Vidor, has lived and worked in Los Angeles since 1993. He is a graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, where he studied under John Coppola and Brian Reise. Moses’ professional experience includes starring roles in several independent films and co-starring, recurring and supporting roles in popular television shows such as “Melrose Place,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” and “Passions.”
It was while working on “Passions” that Moses met Dan McMellen, most recently the editor of ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” Moses said he and McMellen shared stories of their memories from back home and decided that a great story could come from them. They combined their talents in writing and filmmaking and the result was “Noble Things.”
“We began the process of writing the script and 4,000 hours later we had the first draft of ‘Noble Things,’” said Moses.
The story is set in the lush swamp land and towering pine trees of Edgewater, Texas, where Jimmy Collins (Moses) and his brother, Kyle (Hurst), learn about loyalty and life in their small corner of the world. Collins plans on becoming the next big country star out of Edgewater, but finds himself facing the consequences of a fate-filled night. “Noble Things” is described as “tying together a story of love, loyalty, and what happens when painful secrets become too heavy to bear.”
The culmination has been a three-year process so far. Moses and McMellen realized that they needed something visual to present to producers and potential actors. “So we shot a trailer for $400,” said Moses. Using Moses’ father and brother as actors, and filming right here in Southeast Texas, they created an incredibly vivid trailer.
“The trailer is able to show the amazing beauty of Southeast Texas,” said Moses. He added that Greene gave them a library of songs to use for the trailer, which added to its sensation.
The film is set to shoot from July 5-Aug. 8, and Moses said they have 60 percent of the filming locations are locked in. While Moses said he could not publicize those locations yet, he did want to include downtown Beaumont and several scenic beauty shots of the area.
“We are going to spotlight Southeast Texas on a national stage,” said Moses. “I really want Southeast Texas to embrace this movie. Hopefully it will be something they can be proud of for a long time to come.”
Auditions will be held in Beaumont for other parts in “Noble Things” on June 8-9.

I'm listening to it now, and I'm pretty sure it's not LAW singing :). It sounds like her in the beginning, but more like Celine Dion than anybody, but I don't think it's her either lol.

Can't wait!

I think the movie looks really interesting, though it'd be cooler if it was a major-motion picture movie :bleh: .... the acting is done very well.

here's a new article about the movie. It mentions LAW twice, and I thought it was pretty interesting:

Hollywood comes to Beaumont

Crockett Street in downtown Beaumont on Thursday was lined with trailers. Inside Antone's were racks of Western-style shirts, and upstairs in the Dixie Dance Hall, Brett Moses was directing 50 people and staging a fight scene.
Hollywood is in Southeast Texas this month as Moses, a 1993 Vidor High School graduate; singers Tracy Byrd and Lee Ann Womack; and actress Dominique Swain set to work on the independent film "Noble Things."

A crew of about 75, which includes producers, assistant directors, make-up artists and grips, will spend the next several weeks roaming across Jefferson and Hardin counties. Joining them will be about 500, mostly local, extras.

"I have never seen a community, so generous, so hospitable as the people around Beaumont," line producer Calvin Yamin said. "We've had a lot of cooperation from fire departments, police departments, even officers advising us on how they do their jobs, what cars are used when."

Moses co-wrote the screenplay and is starring and directing. A graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, he has spent much of the past 12 years in Los Angeles and over the years has had small roles on the television shows "Melrose Place," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Passions."

"Noble Things" is loosely based on his memories of growing up in the area, and tells the story of young country singer Jimmy Collins (played by Moses) who returns home to the fictional town of Edgewater to find a terminally ill father and an imprisoned brother.

Moses, who was unavailable for comment Thursday, came to Southeast Texas in 2004 to shoot a trailer, and had hoped to start principal photography last fall. However, that had to be postponed because of Hurricane Rita. The movie, being shot in high definition, actually started filming on July 5 at the Crown Motel on College Street in Beaumont.

Swain, who has been featured in such films as "Face/Off," "Pumpkin" and "Lolita," and co-star Ryan Hurst of "Saving Private Ryan," "Remember the Titans" and "The Ladykillers," were on Crockett Street, Thursday, though neither was available for comment. Womack, known for such hits as "The Fool," "I Hope You Dance" and "Ashes by Now" will be in town later in the month. Byrd has a small role as country singer Ronnie Crawford, a mentor to Collins.

Yamin said the filmmakers still are trying to recruit extras and hope to use about 500 for various scenes. Those interested should prepare for 12-hour workdays.

"Everybody's been wonderful, though," Yamin said. "They (the extras) are all volunteers - we don't have the money to pay them. And it's a long, boring process. But I haven't had one extra who hasn't stayed all day or hasn't done what they're supposed to."
