Lee Ann Womack Joins Grant-A-Wish Radiothon
Feb 27, 2006, 01:45 PM MST

(There's a video at the link above too!)

The KASE 101 Grant-A-Wish Radiothon wrapped up Sunday, and you just never know who was going to show up.

Bama Brown says: "From Channel 36, Jim Bowl-A-Gumbo! No, we love you buddy. Thanks for coming out."
KXAN's Jim Bergamo: "I told you before, I just appreciate being in the presence of greatness: you!"
Bama: "Oh, thank you brother, I appreciate that."
Bergamo: "Am I sucking up enough?"
Bama: "Yeah, that's perfect, OK."

However, neither Brown nor Bergamo were the real stars, nor the reason people showed up at Lakeline Mall for Sunday's radiothon.

It didn't take long for Brown and Rob Mason of KASE 101 to get the attention of their country music listeners at the radiothon going on at Lakeline Mall.

"You become a wishmaker, you enter the drawing, you might win that great prize package, go see Lee Ann Womack perform at the Houston rodeo," Mason said.

"We're going to have a blast. Who doesn't love a rodeo?" Womack said.

A better question might be what country music fan doesn't love Womack?

Womack, who was playing at the Paramount Theater over the weekend, took time out to visit with her fans, including many of the very children being helped by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and South Texas, like Claire Winn, who's already had two heart procedures and still requires more.

Womack's music has already touched Claire's life.

"In fact, her song, 'I Hope You Dance,' is a song that I always tell Claire, that's what I think for her. I don't want her to be fearful of challenges in life. I want her to embrace them," Leah Winn, Claire's mother, said.

"And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance," Womack sings.

"Claire loves to dance, and Claire took ballet, and she lives life to the fullest, and I think a lot of kids, you see a lot of these children, that yeah, maybe their ailment might slow them down a little bit, but you know what? They don't dwell on that, and they still live life," Leah said.

Claire has already been treated to Disney World, courtesy of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. There, she got to take pictures with the princesses.

"Children, when going through a life-threatning medical condition, truly lose the spark in their eye," Tammy Shaklee, president and CEO of the Make-A-Wish of Central & South Texas, said. "When children are facing something so life-threatening, often times, a simple wish is easy for us to grant, but it takes charitable dollars to do it."

Each wish costs the organization about $5,000.

So far this weekend, the radiothon has raised more than $280,000, but they can always use more. You can still make on online donation until Monday.
