I knew it was going to be a good day when, as the sun was coming up over the Hollywood Hills, I found myself riding down the 101 sitting next to Waylon Payne, listening to his mom singing Help Me Make It Through The Night on his car’s stereo system. We were on our way to a fabulous house about a half an hour outside of Los Angeles where we were to film the video for my next single, 20 Years and Two Husbands Ago. Paul Boyd directed and I had told him I wanted Waylon to cameo and, thankfully, Waylon very graciously agreed....not only to be in the video but also to drive me to the set and swap country music stories, ideas, and dreams along the way.

Waylon and I are kindred spirits of sorts, both being in love with the sounds and styles of the 60’s and happy to live out a little bit of fantasy with the help of great prop and costume design departments hired by the director. (Think Valley of the Dolls meets George and Tammy.) I was so proud to sit in one scene with Waylon and Aubrie both at my side! I can’t wait for you guys to see it. I think you’ll like it and be able to see why I’d have such a good time making it. (I mean besides the 5 inch heeled, rhinestone encrusted, $500 Stuart Weitzman silver sandals I refused to leave the set without.)
(Check out Waylon’s cd The Drifter if you haven’t already taken my advice and gotten it! This guys gonna be a huge star and you’ll be able to say you were among his first fans!)

We spent a few days in L.A. doing interviews and such. I was on the phone for several hours with radio stations today, talking about the CMA Awards and the album (along with being asked how I feel about the Kenny/you-know-who debacle...I’ve had a t-shirt printed that reads Team Kenny if that clears things up.)

At the moment I’m on an Alaska Airlines flight on my way to Seattle where we’ll board the bus and head off to play a fair in a town that I can’t pronounce or spell. But I’ll tell you what I can spell: C-O-R-N D-O-G. And that’s one of the small, but pertinent bonuses of playing fairs.

Keep the Gulf Coast in your prayers and do what you can to help! You guys are great!
