From the March 31st concert at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC:

With the band back onstage, Womack sang "I May Hate Myself in the Morning" and then noted, "I was standing in the wings watching Mr. Kristofferson sing. I can't believe I'm here." Explaining that she had attended the funeral for songwriter Cindy Walker earlier in the week in Texas, Womack provided a stunning interpretation of one of Walker's most enduring songs, "You Don't Know Me." With a combination of restraint, nuance and -- when it's needed -- power, Womack just seems to get better as her career progresses. She completed her brief segment with "Twenty Years and Two Husbands Ago" and "I Hope You Dance."
......
Gill, Womack, Kristofferson and the Judds returned to the stage for the finale of "Will the Circle Be Unbroken," the Carter Family song that closes all events at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville. ''

( I would have loved to hear LAW sing "You Don't Know Me"!)

Country music star raises money for East Tennessee Children's Hospital

A big star with a big heart spent the day in Knoxville, singing, visiting and just spending time with those who needed it.

A queen of country music singing her heart out for a good cause. Lee Ann Womack is raising money for East Tennessee Children's Hospital.

Heather Edgley from Children's Hospital says, "We really need to have the income for the hospital. It's wonderful for the patients. It helps our facility."

And Womack's day of goodwill didn't just include this concert. This afternoon, she surprised patients and their parents at the hospital. Tara is one of those patients. She suffers from asthma. Her mom, Jackie, is a huge country music fan.

Womack says, "The moms are usually about my age and I can really relate to them. It's just kind of like a hug and a pat and an I'm thinking of you can go a long way."

A short visit that went a long way and a concert that proved to be the perfect close to a day dedicated to charity. "

"Among the victims of that wacky airport security scanner breakdown Friday at Nashville airport was Lee Ann Womack.

Lee Ann was heading toward an appearance at Washington's Kennedy Center, which hosted "The Country Celebrates Country" concert, bringing together Vince Gill, Kris Kristofferson, Ray Price and Naomi and Wynonna Judd.

Looks like star status and a boatload of CMA awards are not enough to get you to cut in line at airport security.

When she did get through, her plane had taken off, and Lee Ann had to fly — shriek! — the first-class-free Southwest Airlines.

Once on the plane, she listened to an iPod she'd filled with five versions of the late Cindy Walker's You Don't Know Me, including ones by Bette Midler and Ray Charles.

"I wonder what that must feel like, to have written a true classic that's been covered by so many people," Lee Ann told Tennessean music writer Peter Cooper.

Not only did Lee Ann get there in time for rehearsal, but she also nailed it on stage."

Lee Ann visits Ronald McDonald
[posted 5/15/2006]

MCA Nashville recording artist and reigning three-time 2005 CMA award-winner Lee Ann Womack recently paid a visit to Nashville's local Ronald McDonald House with her girls Aubrie, 15, and Anna Lise, 7. In hopes of delivering some Mother's Day cheer, Womack and her girls met with some of the families, baked cookies and donated more than $700 in supplies to the facility.
"My girls asked me what I wanted to do for Mother's Day and I couldn't think of a more enjoyable day than providing support and hope to families who deserve it," said Womack. "And being able to take my girls along and teach them the meaning of giving is the best gift I could ask for."

Check out pictures from Lee Ann's visit:

"LAS VEGAS – Lee Ann Womack, nominated for three Academy of Country Music awards, won't be here tonight after her camp and the ACM clashed over whether she'd perform on the show.

The show's TV committee at first didn't offer Lee Ann a performance spot and then offered her a 90-second acoustic slot, her manager, Erv Woolsey, told me. By that time, Lee Ann had made other plans.

"They invited her last minute at the last meeting," he said.

"It would have been embarrassing for her to sit in the crowd with three nominations and not perform."

Erv said there are no hard feelings and Lee Ann's not angry.

But, he added, "If performers are not linked to nominations, why not just have a variety show?"

ACM executive director Bob Romeo didn't talk about specifics of Lee Ann performance slot negotiations.

Bob said only (and sincerely): "We wish she was here. Love to have her."

Absolutely RIDICULOUS!

It makes me think that George wasn't invited to perform either. I didn't watch it last night. Not interested at all.

"Lee Ann Womack and hip-hop rappers Master P and Lil' Romeo, will hit the stage at the "Homefront Celebration" for troops in Vicenza, Italy, next Wednesday (6/14).

This is the second USO tour for Master P and Lil' Romeo, who performed at a "welcome home" event for soldiers in Germany last March.

Lil' Womack is sponsored on this tour by Stars for Stripes."

During wartime, people forget that American soldiers serve in thousands of other places around the world other than in combat zones.

And catching a little taste of home from a celebrity visit means a lot to them, too.

Like the visits Lee Ann Womack is currently making to bases in Italy and Germany on a Stars and Stripes tour.

Nonetheless Lee Ann was able to meet some combat soldiers when she visited Landstuhl Medical center where many combat wounded soldiers are sent for treatment. Said Lee Ann, "It's not every day you wake up knowing ahead of time it's gonna be one of the greatest days of your life. It was my honor at Landstuhl this morning to shake the hands of American soldiers and Marines, look them in the eye and personally thank them for what they've done for my family."

During a current interview (The Mountain Press) with Dolly:

TMP: Who would you consider as your closest celebrity friends?

Parton: I don't really hang out with any of them. When I do have some time off, I usually stay home. The people I'm very close to are people like Alison Krauss, Emmylou Harris, Lee Ann Womack, Rhonda Vincent. ... I called Loretta Lynn because she fell and broke her shoulder, and she's been in the hospital. We kidded and laughed about it. She said she was doing fine and it was going to take 10 months for her to get better. I called her to say, 'How you doing?' and we talked for a hour. I do have those people that once we do connect, we feel like best friends. I love all the girls in the business and the guys too, but I can't call them because their girlfriends get jealous (laughs).

Vince Gill is getting ready to launch the biggest album project of his career, a 4-CD set titled These Days, set for Oct. 17.

Joining Vince on the album are such stars as Gretchen Wilson, Lee Ann Womack, pop star Michael McDonald, Vince’s wife Amy Grant and his daughter Jenny. The set, containing 43 new and original songs, displays Vince’s mastery of country, bluegrass, jazz and other styles. “I started looking at all these songs I had,” said Vince, “and going, ‘Shoot, I want to record that song.’ I just kept checking with the other musicians to see if they were available. I had no deadlines, no rules, anything like that.”

I would love to own that set, Vince is one of the best male vocalists in music IMO. I love his song, "Kindly Keep It Country" (LAW sings background vocals on it!). They'll be showing her performance on tv July 17th I believe (BUT it will only be on New York City's CBS channel I think, but I'll see if I can still somehow get it and record it.

this is very cool, on Janis Fontaine's 'Sizzling Women of Country' article, see how Lee Ann ranks:

2. Lee Ann Womack. Womack drips sensuality. Those big blue eyes, all that big hair, not to mention she’s got a great, woman's body! Womack, the mother of two, proves that pregnancy doesn't have to destroy your figure!

- that is a great rank!
