Nashville cats and dogs star in new book Every animal deserves a decent life, especially the orphaned pets waiting for a home in Nashville shelters. A few years ago, photographer Karen Will Rogers visited the old animal pound in Bordeaux and was so appalled she documented its conditions and showed the pictures to music industry animal lovers. She hoped that their outrage would persuade politicians to put the facility on the top of their agenda. More than four years later, thanks to then-mayor Phil Bredesen and efforts by local pet advocates and country artists, Nashville has a brand new and improved shelter on Harding Place. Rogers and her friend, Laura Lacy, celebrate with their new book, Music Row Dogs and Nashville Cats: Country Stars and Their Pets. Revealing testimonials and stories from nearly 100 top country artists about how pets have affected their lives are accompanied by arty, intimate photographs by Rogers of the artists cuddling their dogs, cats, horses, hedgehogs and fish bowls. “As they gained trust through watching their pet open up to the camera, it relaxed them,” Rogers said. “The bottom line was honoring our pets and the gift that we’ve got.” A portion of book sales will be donated to Nashville-area animal shelters and “people came out of the woodwork to support it,” Rogers said. Featured artists include Vince Gill, Jo Dee Messina, Trisha Yearwood, Lee Ann Womack, Wynonna, Tanya Tucker, Brad Paisley, Charlie Daniels, Barbara Mandrell, Terri Clark, George Jones, Eddie Montgomery of Montgomery Gentry and the late Tammy Wynette. Any superstar attitude just disappeared as soon as their pets were mentioned, Lacy said. “It’s something mutual — we both know what that deep love and deep commitment is about when you look into the eyes of these animals,” she said. “The love I get from this animal is constant and consistent,” said Jay Demarcus of Rascal Flatts about his golden retriever in the book. “You can find the kind of companionship in a dog that you’ll never find in a human being.” “When I look into her eyes, she takes all the burden of stress off my soul,” said Rebecca Lynn Howard in the book about her rescue, Trixie. And Brad Paisley believes sharing life with a pet brings a human being closer to nature and God. “I find it a spiritual experience,” he said of pet ownership in the book. “Commitment is a big part of love, because love is a choice.” The combined passions of music and pets brought Rogers and Lacy together, and they hope readers will become advocates for animals and any other cause they feel strongly about. “Even though we’re talking about animals here and not humans, it’s a leaf off that tree of life,” Rogers said. “It’s all intertwined.” ======================== http://www.nashvillecitypaper.com/index.cf...s&news_id=34369 ======================== I don't know her pet's name, I think it's a dog (she talked about it on SWLB interview with AOL)...I wanna see what else she says about the pet . |
