I'm not going to mention the obvious must-listens like The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Who, etc. You can ask anybody about those. This is for some lesser-known music.

ALBUMS

-Alien Ant Farm - truANT
--This is probably my favorite album of all time; the first I've heard in which EVERY song is completely awesome. It's unfortunate that AAF was a one-hit-wonder because this album is, in my opinion, the best rock album of the early 2000s.
---"9.5/10" IGN

-New Found Glory - Sticks and Stones, Catalyst
--These albums were received with average ratings from critics and instant comparisons to bands like Blink 182. However, it is my opinion that they pretty much blow anything Blink 182 ever made out of the water. The vast majority of the songs are catchy, and I mean HOPELESSLY catchy. For someone who isn't too big on punk rock like me, these albums both stand out as high quality.

-The Flashbulb - Soundtrack to a Vacant Life
--I shouldn't have to say any more about this.

-Infected Mushroom - Vicious Delicious
--Psytrance thinking outside the box. Those who listen to DJ Tiesto and Basshunter may want to pick this up and hear what GOOD music of this type sounds like. You may have already heard some IM in Mungyodance - the cuts don't do the full songs justice.

-Papa Roach - Infest, Lovehatetragedy
--I'm not going to say much here because I'm probably the only fan of nu-metal here, but these two albums contain some of the best hard riffs I've heard in recent memory.

http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:jjfrxqq0ld6e

-Rage Against the Machine - The Battle of Los Angeles
--Ask anybody about this album and gauge their reactions. Also "Sleep Now in the Fire" is the most badass song ever made.

-Weezer - Weezer (The Blue Album)
--Another case of every song on the album being good. This one is a legend of sorts - Weezer has a huge cult following. Even those uptight Allmusic reviewers who gave some of the above albums average scores agree that this album is a classic.

Hmm... let me see if I know any artists that I didn't find from Mungyodance or FM...
Nope. I should probably add this topic to my watch-list.

Linkin Park's first album was good, but then after than it went downhill. Second album only had a few good songs.

You are literally the first person I've heard in AGES bring up Papa Roach's Infest and LHT. Their best IMO, and remain some of my favorite CDs to this date. Same goes for truANT; I never hear people talk about that band for some reason, I don't quite understand why....

ADDING TO LIST:
Streetlight Manifesto - Somewhere in the Between (new-wave ska = amazing)
Alestorm - Black Sails At Midnight (amazing pirate metal much?)

Papa Roach has totally changed. I can't honestly say that I enjoyed any of their stuff since Getting Away With Murder.

Nobody talks about AAF because Smooth Criminal was their only real success. truANT was amazing, but they dropped the ball on their follow-up, Up In the Attic. I hear they might be recording more stuff soon, and if that's the case I'm eager to hear it.
