Just read about this new series called 12 Monkeys that is going to air on Syfy January 16th.

I remember the 90s movie Twelve Monkeys. Not the greatest of movies, but I will check out the new series to see how they handle the concept.

This is one of those that, if they do it right, could exceed the quality of the original film. Or it could be a total train wreck out of the gate.

No kidding. I will be surprised if it makes it more than one season. The series will probably be very dramatic/serious. That can be a hard kind of series to draw big viewing crowds.

I kind of wish I still had my combo DVD/VCR player. It conked out on me a few years ago. I'm pretty sure my mother still has this movie on VHS, I could have borrowed it and watched/refreshed. Oh well.

Considering that the original film was done by Monty Python alum Terry Gilliam I really hope there is some humor in the series. I haven't watched the film in ages either, but I seem to recall there was some subtle humor floating through it.

^^ I'm down with that.

I like that Amanda Schull is staring in the series as well. I first saw her in a movie called Center Stage from 2000. I always hoped she did well over the years. I saw her in bits here and there, but never got to see her in a huge role. So I have my fingers crossed.

I don't know if I'll be home for it, but I can safely bet it will probably be rerun a few times to catch it.

Not what I would call a lot of humor.

Kind of an H.G. Wells meets Andromeda Strain.

I like it, but it may be a little too intense for some, and a little too over the to for others.

Oh, and hello. Great to see that you guys are still plugging away at it.

^ Good to see you too.

I've watched all but the last two episodes from this first season and I have enjoyed it for the most part. I am starting to get a bit fatigued from the back and forth time travel.

Also, I'm a bit ambivalent about the direction they have taken the José Ramse character and the 12 Monkeys.

^^ To tell the truth, I am so bad at remembering names that I am not sure to which character you are refering.

I am also getting a little fatigued by the show. Not so much the constant jumping back and forth between times, but the lack of any resolution. The show just keeps going on and on.... That would not be so bad if I had sense of progress. Yet, for every "accomplishment" the problem of the plague is never solved. Nor is a satisfactory explanation ever given as to why a certain "accomplishment" does not solve the problem. I keep watching hoping for explanations, and keep getting disappointed. Perhaps in the second season they will really start to explain things. So far, I am beginning to feel like I have been duped into watching the show. A lot of hype, a lot of clever plot twists, etc.

An interesting story with no end in sight. Unfortunately, the lack of an end in sight makes the story progressively less interesting...at least for me.
